A while back I saw something on TV that caught my attention.
It was something about a womans curves and a hip-waist ratio..

Now.. I'm a big girl.
But I am also a curvy one.
And tonight I measured my body.
I came out with the result of a hip-waist ratio of 0,78.
To be more spesific this is my measured numbers 46-36-46 (46,8 to be accurate ;) )

So I just got curious.
Do you know what your hip-waist is?
You can check it at this website.

And btw; a healthy ratio for women is 0.80 and 0.90 for men.

I hear their is some magical number for a woman's body. Whether it be fat or skinny, as long as it falls near the correct ratio number she will be attractive.

Apparently, that magic ratio (I can't remember what it is right now either) has been constant for many centuries, and they think possibly millenia, though I don't know how they figure that... so with all the changes in tastes (so to speak) in actual body sizes and shapes, the preferred hip-waist ratio has stayed the same.

Actually now I think about it, that may be the bust-waist or bust-hip ratio... ignore everything I've just been rambling about

Yes, sometimes it's nice to have curves, even more so in the right proportions:)

I've heard of facial ratio measurements for "perfect beauty", but never hip-waist. I'm pretty screwed though because I'm so an apple shape. Guess I'll never be attractive.

So I was in a bar...

So I was in a bar last week with some friends, and a guy starts explaining this very thing!

He says the perfect ratio is 1 : 0.7

With your hips being 1.0 and your waist being 0.7

He says that this ratio is what attracts men on a primitive level with almost any size, and breast size doesn't matter in that case.

Whatcha all think?

Men, do you agree?

So Scandichick isn't too far off at all. She's a 1.0 : 0.78

.7 is apparently the "magic number" although the praised 36-24-36 is .66. In some cultures, an apple-like shape is considered much more attractive than a pear.

College Geek, I've often wished I had the great legs of an apple...don't sell yourself short! :D

Well, it's really not just about the attractivity (yes, I made a new word) of the shapes, but pear shapes are healthier than apple shapes, since the fat around the mid-section is the more dangerous fat, or something to that effect. I don't know whether I'd rather complain about weight always going to my thighs (which are big, but haven't really changed over the years) or to my mid-section (which is does). Rarely is anyone ever happy with everything they have.

BULLSHIT!

You are so sexy and cute and you know it, silly girl!!!!!

Huh. I'm 35" waist and 43" hips (sighhhhh) which works out to .81 Interesting site - it also had a link to other health related calculators...

A Body Mass Index which says I have a score of 30.6, indicating that I am moderately obese (size 16, thank you very much, and happy about it to boot!) Telling it a fib, that I weigh 180, makes it say that I am merely overweight. On the upside, it says I'm not at risk for diabetes, which is great! When I put in my weight & such for a year and half ago, before I started going to the gym, it says BMI of 40.1, and at risk for diabetes... So if I can just keep up the exercise & better habits, things will slowly continue to improve.

I just figured mine out and it says 40.8, which is so bad. About three years ago for a little while I was 29.6. That was when I went on a excerice and healthy eating routine. It lasted for about five months. Then I worked at an ice cream shop over the summer. Now it seems so far away. I signed up to be in a wellness hall on campus, so it has it's own fitness center. I really need to start going, even if only for a half an hour. This semester it's really easy to blow it off since the hours are weird for me (it doesn't open till 2 PM, which sucks because I can't go before my classes start) and after marching band I just feel tired. I should get my roomie to start beating me with a stick. Well, I guess the good side is that at the end of spring semester last year, I think I was 293 or something like that (yeah, I'll admit it), and now I just checked and my scale says I'm 276, so that's really cool. All the horseshow crab bleeding over the summer paid off. :p Hopefully by the end of the semester, if I get my act together, I might be able to be back down to 250. That would make me happy. :)

You can do it!

When I joined the gym, I was up to about 265, or so? After I'd been going for a month & a half, I had the nerve to weigh myself, & was at 256.... now I'm down to 190, and I've been at this point since January of this year. Was down to 185 for a bit, even... need to be more consistent with going. Cutting out the fried chicken, soda, and ice cream helped mucho, as did adding lots & lots of fruit, I think. So, yeah, from a size 26 to a 16 in a year & a half... no crash diet, no weight watchers, no counting calories, not the no carbs thing, no south beach.... Just swimming for a half hour, or doing a one hour water-robics class, or running on the elliptical trainer thing... I never never never never would have thought I'd ever enjoy running, but I've got the soundtrack to Run Lola Run, & it rules... and it's kind of fun to really feel the sweat pouring off of me....

If I can get down to 170 by my birthday next February, that will kick ass... if I can get down to 150 by then, I may just get my nipples pierced in celebration, or maybe a tattoo. If that is to happen, I really have to get serious. Sighhhh. It's so easy to procrastinate!

but, anyways, College_geek, you'll do it when you want... next year may be my 10 year high school reunion, which might be part of why I'm really getting motivated. I always kind of thought when I was fat & in high school that someday, I'd get my act together & lose weight. It's been a lot easier than I expected, but I've taken it pretty easy and slowly. This plateau has me really annoyed... grrrr. But it's my own doing. It didn't happen in college, just too much to do & not enough time to exercise, and the dining hall did not help... Yeah, there was a salad bar, but salad is not something that sticks to your ribs, and they only allotted us 3 meals a day - which doesn't really help you try to do six small meals a day, with quite moderate fist size or palm of your hand sized portions.... which is something that I did try last year for about 6 or 8 weeks, and it definitely helped me lose weight....

Anyways, I'm hijacking the thread, I'm a big dork - but - you are not lazy, it's just choices.... some of us are not blessed with the kind of metabolism that lets us get by with the amount of work/sleep/food wacky ass schedule that life throws at us & still remain in reasonable shape.... so, anyways - I have LOTS of faith that you'll get there someday, and even if you don't, you are still very sexy and smart and cute & should be very confident in that!!!

(your pic always reminds me of a friend of mine from college, a totally awesome girl, btw)

now back to your regularly scheduled thread! Sorry!

Yeah, it doesn't help that the DC food isn't the healthiest of foods. I've been eating more sandwiches than normal, with yummy tomatoes and onions on them. I don't really ever envision myself being less than 170 or 180, but that doesn't bother me. I'd be really happy around there. Even if I was 200 again, I'd be thrilled. Half of it is for self-confidence and half is health-wise. Thanks a bunch, watergirl, you made my evening really great. :rose:

Yeah, my BMI puts me at obese too, but that only measures your weight, not your density... Muscle weighs more than fat, so while yes I have plenty of extra fat in the usual places (inner thigh, butt, tum), I also have really, really muscly legs, arms and I guess back. So when I tell people that I'm "obese", they usually hit me and tell me to stop messing with them.

Bah! Numbers aren't sexy, PEOPLE are sexy... no matter what their "numbers" are

All of these big women with big breast and hips can be sexy. It's how you display it aht counts. Short skirts, cleavage. Yea! Yea!

waist/hip ratio = 0.7 exactly.
bmi = 25 exactly.

but i do tend to show off a lot off cleavage, so none of that seems to matter when it comes to attractiveness!
those guys that get their eyes above the level of my nipples, are usually in with a chance ;)
