This is loosely based on the cartoon that the idiots over at CN just cancelled. I say loosely because I am leaving a lot of room to craft the world as we go.
Here is a quick rundown:
People with special powers have always existed, but the terms "superhero" and "supervillain" first surfaced in the early 1930s, during the Prohibition. With the dramatic spike in crime, heroic individuals stepped forward, many wearing masks to conceal their identities. This ultimately led to the formation of the Justice Society of America in 1940, with such noble heroes as Hawkman (Carter Hall), the Flash (Jay Garrick), and Doctor Fate (Kent Nelson) in leadership positions.
In 1942, due to international pressure, the JSA was dragged into World War II. In 1945, it was discovered immortal warrior Vandal Savage and a group of villains, labeled the Injustice Society by the press, had been involved with the Axis powers. Savage had caused many problems in recent years, and so he was placed in a maximum security cell at the newly constructed Belle Reve Federal Penitentiary in Louisiana, where he would remain for decades.
After the war, the JSA were more popular than ever, with comic books, toys, lunch boxes, and even cereals being made in their honor. The second half of the forties was a golden age for superheroes, but in 1951, due to the public and the government pressuring them to once again go to war -- this time in Korea -- the Justice Society disbanded. The team was divided over the issue, which aided in the split. Afterwards, half the team left the superhero life behind and retired. The other heroes either went their own way or joined the war effort.
For the next fifty years or so, smaller teams came and went, but nothing as big as the JSA. Not until the Justice League was formed in 2003. A few years before that, in 1998-1999, heroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman surfaced, eventually leading to the creation of the League.
It is now the year 2013. The Justice League of America has been around for ten years, and the story starts with a tenth anniversary party at the Hall of Justice in Washington DC. The Hall is not the League's true headquarters, however -- they have a space station -- the Watchtower -- which is concealed from both sight and radar using Martian cloaking technology provided by J'onn Jonzz, the same technology used to make Mars appear deserted to outsiders.
I will play Nightwing right off the bat, and then later on I will bring in Superboy and play him as well. That will happen during a mission to Cadmus similar to the YJ show, which will occur after we've had a chance to establish the world and characters.
Shukaku has claimed Terra and Remec has claimed Beast Boy.
Just create your characters and we'll start with them at this celebration, and then once we've all had a few posts, Joker and a few of his friends will crash the party and our first fight will ensue. After that our characters, for whatever reason, decide to become a team and we go from there. I don't want to plan too much in advance, so we'll just start here and see where it goes. If you have any questions, please ask.
