Ex-CNN Anchor Tells Gun Control Activists To ‘Shut The F*** Up’

Ex-CNN anchor Lynne Russell has a strong message for gun control activists after her husband, former CNN reporter Chuck de Caro, saved the couple’s lives by fatally shooting an armed felon who opened fire on them in their Albuquerque, New Mexico motel room last week.

“If you don’t want to carry please don’t,” Russell told Fox 411. “Then, shut the fuck up about it. Make your own decisions.”

De Caro and Russell, who anchored for CNN and CNN Headline News between 1983 and 2001, had stopped overnight at a Motel 6 during a cross-country roadtrip. On her way back to the room after stepping out to her car, Russell was confronted by Tomorio Watson, a convicted felon from Tennessee.

Watson held a gun to Russell and forced her into the room. According to Russell, Watson demanded the couple’s possessions and grew so agitated during the robbery that he began shooting at de Caro, who is a former Green Beret.

De Caro was hit with three bullets, but he had a gun of his own and was able to shoot Watson, who collapsed in the motel parking lot and later died. De Caro underwent surgery and survived.

Russell, who is also a trained private investigator and carries a gun as well, called de Caro her hero and said that she is grateful for the Second Amendment.

“The discussion over the debate to own a gun is just ridiculous,” she told Fox 411. “As Americans we have the right to bear arms and as humans the right to protect ourselves. I’m sure that the man who shot my husband did not have a gun permit. Criminals will always have guns. The rest of us legally obtain our gun permits.”

A Virginia sheriff’s deputy shot his teenage daughter after he mistook her for an intruder as she sneaked into the home in the early morning hours, then crashed his car as he rushed her to the hospital, police said.

The frantic scene began around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, when Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputy Easton McDonald heard an alarm from his garage indicating the door was open. McDonald, getting ready for work, walked closer to the garage in his Winchester, Va. home and heard more rustling and a loud bang.

“He figured someone had broken into the garage, and his family was upstairs asleep,” Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Donnie Lang told the Washington Post.

A head-to-head anecdote challenge?

The "vet" thing doesn't bother me. It was 30 years ago and one of the minor accomplishments in what has been a very accomplished life.

If you want to get under my skin, imply that I use store bought pasta sauce.

Perhaps not an anecdote, but some numbers instead.

Last year the FBI says there were about 14.000 murders in the U.S. This includes homicide by rifles, pistols, shotguns, knives, hammers, hockey sticks and baseball bats, etc.

+There was also 33,000 deaths from traffic accident, well over twice as many as homicides, and I do not hear a single comment about banning the killer cars, trucks etc.

There seems to be very few comments about accidents caused by drunk drivers, driving while high, speeding or driving while distracted talking on your phone or texting.

Yet, let there be a shooting and all the ban the gun folks are all over the net, a vehicle accident that kills a half a dozen innocents and there is not as single word written. It seems to be an accepted fact, we're going to kill each other with cars and that is just the way it is.

Kill the same number with a gun and we must ban guns, take them away from otherwise innocent people so we can stop the slaughter.

Yes, stupid people with guns kill people, but stupid people driving cars kill many more. Perhaps we should pay attention to what the real killers are and work on fixing them.
