Congrats! :nana: My mother is still swimming through the paperwork needed to get back disability pay, so I stand and applaud that you got yours.

WOW! You must be happy.
Don't forget to apply for Medicare.

usually i'd be pissed

because our taxes shouldn't be used for certain things.. but in this case.... I wholeheartedly congratulate you.... and wonder if social security and the like will exist when I begin to reach latter stages or life

Congrats grace :rose: :rose: from us both :)

Don'tcha just love forms and red tape? Master Gil and I have just put in an application for me to receive a carer's allowance as well as the carer's pension, which if I get it will mean an extra $50 a week. He had to go have another health assessment done - gee I wonder why when He has things like diabetes and renal failure which are not ever going to get better. They should just stamp a big red P on His file for Permanent!

It will take between 2 and 4 weeks for the application to be assessed.....

Congrats Gracie! I hope that you are able to get the medicare kicked in right away too (without a wait period).

Congratulations, graceanne! :)

Just a question for 'ya, though: I understand that it takes a couple of tries to finally get approved for Social Security Disability benefits. Did you have to go through the entire process, then get rejected the first time...or did you win on the first try? A friend of mine has applied for benefits, but she said it might take a couple of years. Thanks!

I've been denied twice.

Grace I am really pleased to hear this was approved for you and that you will be able to get quality medical care when you need it. Also that it provides a degree of mental respite from some worry in the immediate future.

I second this in hopes that you will be able to receive all the medical attention you deserve without the worry and burden of how can you afford to be well :nana:

I know the benefit amount isn't usually that much, but the Medicare (health care) benefits are so valuable.

Best of luck! :)

Thank you, everyone. Yes, the medicare is going to be very helpful, it's the main reason I applied for social secuirty. I mean, don't get me wrong, a little extra money is nice, but it's the health insurance I need.

Congrats Gracie, I know what you mean we are very lucky here to not have that additional worry having the NHS which kind of works if you don't mind the waiting lists.
