Yahoo Pop Access Charge

No.

Any decent ISP gives you POP for free. Why pay for it?

Do you think it's worth $19.95 a year for email forwarding?

You can access Yahoo through POP for free using YahooPOPs (runs under Windows and Linux):

http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/

It's really easy to use - just set it up, run it in the background, and set your email client's POP settings to access the server it's set up on your computer. When your email client checks mail, it connects to YahooPOPs which downloads the email via Yahoo's web interface.

It's a little slow, but it works.

Should I just call my isp to find out how to set that up?

It should be on their website.

If you're going to use Outlook Express make sure your anti-virus is 110% updated.

Or try Eudora.

Now if I could just get one of you guys to come here and set it up for me.

Pardon my bias, but anyone running outlook deserves to get a virus.

Be smart, switch to pegasus, its powerful, its free.

Install YahooPOPs.

If you want to download from folders other than your Inbox, then you need to configure YahooPOPs - it's all pretty self explanatory from what I can remember, you only need to do it once and then you can forget about it.

Create a new POP email account in your email client.

For receiving, set the POP server address to localhost or 127.0.0.1

For sending, set the SMTP server address to localhost or 127.0.0.1 (you cannot send HTML emails or attachments with this server, but often you can use your ISP SMTP address instead)

Set your username to your Yahoo id (without the @yahoo.whatever bit), and your password to your usual password.

The default port number should work perfectly, I only needed to change it because I run HotmailPopper which is the same thing only for Hotmail, they have to be on different ports. Just make sure your email client's port number is the same as YahooPOPs'.

Then you can select "receive emails" in your email client, and it should start working and you'll have your emails downloaded within 30 seconds or so (if there are only say 10 or so). To download 100 emails without attachments took me about 5 mins, I had to keep clicking "wait some more" when it said the POP server hadn't responded each 60 seconds - but eventually they came through. YahooPOPs keeps you notified what it is doing in any case.

Hope this helps!
