My Yahoo mail account was just hacked. I looked and found several Unable to Deliver messages. Most were to people I had never heard of. It may be worth while to look and change your password.

My wife had problems a couple of weeks ago but they hadn't hacked her account. They had downloaded her 'Sent' folder dating back from the start of her account until February this year.

They sent a variety of emails to everyone she had ever contacted. One of our relatives, using a significantly large mainframe, managed to track the source to Taiwan.

She's changed her password.

I understand that thousands of Yahoo customers had their Sent folders copied earlier this year.

I hate that.

Obviously you want to change your password, that usually fixes it.

But also try downloading different malware scanners, such as Emsisoft & Kaspersky TDSS Killer.

Those two (almost) always get the the job done in terms of cleaning up your computer.

If you are part of the same scam that affected my wife's Yahoo account, the account is OK but the addresses you sent emails to have been copied and sold to many Spam artists.

Thanks for the replies. My password was not especially easy, I thought, a mix uf upper and lower case and numbers. From what I've read you should have a minimum of 12 characters w/some special characters thrown in also. A PITA to deal with, but has to be done. A whole bunch of new passwords coming up for me.

I'll also run full system scans later tonight.

My Yahoo mail was hacked a month or so ago. It was sending SPAM to everyone in my address book and I found out when several of them told me about it. I now use g-mail. :D

Seems like Yahell is always being hacked. I keep getting spam from friends who abandoned them a long time ago. I never have anything important on my Yahoo so if I get hacked it is't more than an annoyance.

It's not always a hack. Sometimes it's a spoof.

If none of your actual contacts report getting spam from you, but you're seeing bounced messages to people you've never heard of, it's probably a spoof rather than a hack.

Changing your password won't accomplish jack in that case, as they don't actually have access to your account. They probably have malware access to someone's computer who has sent or received email from you at some point in the past.

Not that you shouldn't change your password for safety's sake anyway, but at least you can rest a little easier that there was probably nobody snooping through your messages.

My yahoo account was hacked a few days ago. I don't use this account much now. I need to delete it. If you click on a link in an email from someone you know, and all that's in the email is a link, your friend was hacked and you're next. Anyway, gmail (google) is much easier to use than yahoo email. Gmail doesn't time a user out nor does it make it hard to view an attachment.

Darkniciad I was definitely hacked. I received a WTF from some one I had been talking to about a story unhappy with me sending him spam. Very understandable.

Since you are the resident computer guru I'd be interested in your thoughts on my comment about passwords. Also thank you for pointing out the difference between hacked and spoofed.
