It appears that he will remain for the time being albeit severely weakened. I wrote of the impending power shift in China some weeks ago in my "Who" thread. The primary agent of Xi's downfall is Zhang Youxia with the backing of Hu Jintao and other senior members of the party.

The situation seems to be very dynamic right now and the two factions vying for power are not necessarily going to be an improvement re. Sino-US relations over Xi.
