The purpose of this experiment was to determine which laundry detergent works the best on stained fabric. To carry out this experiment, one must stain equally four pieces of 7.6 cm x 7.6 cm fabric with grass, mud, ketchup, and red punch.Then place on of the stained fabric will be washed with warm water. The first load Tide detergent will be used, and following Tide is Cheer detergent, then Wisk detergent, and then All detergent. After finished washing each load of stained fabric, place the fabric in the dryer. Once all the fabric has dried, place all the fabric in groups according to the washing detergent that was used. Make observations of how well each laundry detergent cleaned or removed the stains from the stains from the fabric. At the end of the experiment, determine which laundry detergent worked best.

After completing the experiment, it was found that Tide laundry detergent was the most efficient in cleaning stained fabric.Under the system of scoring, the lower the number a detergent receive per test the better the results, with best results being zero and the highest or worse being seven of the four stains being tested. Tide scored better or equal to all of its competitors.Tide came in first place by having the lowest total cumulative score of six, followed by its closest competitor which was All, which scored nine, came in second place. Cheer and Wisk tied for third place with a total score of ten.

General Safety Guidelines

Working with alternative photographic processes is a potential health hazard. Many of the procedures and chemicals used constitute a risk to the users health. Make sure you are aware of the potential hazards of all procedures and chemicals prior to their use.

One of the greatest hazards for the photographer using a home darkroom is the contamination of their living space with potentially hazardous chemicals. If one's living space becomes contaminated long term exposure will take place which poses a signifigant risk. It is not advisable to use your kitchen or your bathroom as a temporary darkroom. Ideally a home darkroom should be established in a room dedicated to that purpose. Good housekeeping and an adequate ventilation system will insure that any potentialy hazardous chemicals do not enter your living area.

Wear gloves whan handling all photographic chemicals. Insure that all equipment and materials are only used in your darkroom, and never used for food preparation. Prepare powder based chemicals in a "glove box" - a box with openings cut in the sides for hands and a window of glass or clear plastic placed in the top. A glove box will prevent the spread and possible contamination of fine powders.
