Have you ever written any porn scenes involving an activity that you either didn't like or you didn't understand?

How'd you do it?

Define 'didn't understand.' I wrote my first story when I was still a virgin, does that count?

Is this referring to anything specific that you're trying to do?

I've tried writing gay male sex, which while I find it a turn on, is something completely out of my realm of experience. As a bisexual female I can easily discuss male/female or female/female sexual encounteres, but male/male encounters are just something I'm not familiar enough with to do justice to them. It just came out awkwardly. I haven't attempted to write that sort of scene again. Or perhaps it was the circumstances where it was also non-consent which I'm not sure I'm altogether comfortable writing. But it was an experiment and worthwhile.

What's your larger context mab?

Ironically, my first incest story was a non-incest story. I sort of wrote 'around' the subject by making it a cyberspace encounter. Very clever, right? Until all of those wonderful feedback letters came in clamouring for a sequel. So, there I was writing the incest scene that I did NOT want to write....lol

I asked about writing scenes involving activities the author doesn't really like for a few reasons. For one thing I was curious as to how much we as authors are willing and able to 'stretch' and how well we think we do it.

Here's why I asked: I like to write stories by request. (It's great motivation when you know that someone is waiting for a piece you write.) I especially like writing for women. I guess it's a thing I have. Anyhow, I've had some requests for some things that really baffled me for a while: things I just did not see as being erotic, and I really had trouble in trying to get a handle on these things.

e.g. 'Dhipa', a Pakistani girl living in the UK, wanted a story in which she's forced to dress like a whore by members of her family and wanted the clothes decribed in detail. She also wanted to be ethnically insulted during sex with white men.

'Joan', another girl from the UK, was really turned on by people discovering her masturbating, or by being caught in the act by a crowd of people.

I don't think I could have just put them in these situations without knowing what they found exciting about them. Anyhow, that's not how I work. I've really got to put myself in the protagonist's mind to write something like this decently.

I finally understood the fascination in Joan's case, and for Dhipa I saw her desire to be ethnically insulted as a variation on some women's desire to be called whore & slut &c during sex, as was being forced to dress like this (a public expression of the same desire). But I never could see the thrill in being forced into this by her family. I'm sure it's a cultural thing.

Recently Joan asked me to write another story in which she walks about town naked beneath a raincoat. I thought I understood the erotic appeal in that, and she was thrilled with the result, so I guess I got it right.

I was just curious if anyone else has had to stretch like this and how they made out.

yes, like you Doctor I like to write for others who specifically give me fantasies to work on. I have done a few I have not really understood, for example I did one from the view point of a stripper..something I have no idea about but the story was well appreiciated.

Also online I have played around (yes yes I AM a cyber slut*L*) and have been asked to do many things which to be honest i find quite repulsive.....one guy pooped on me.....another insisted on calling me mummy.....and well i seemed to pull those off too even though they completely repulse me.

I think if you've got the imagination you can pretend anything.

Given that my staid married love life is rather on the vanilla side, I write a lot of things that I've never done, and have no interest in doing.

The Constance story, for instance, includes incest, girl-girl action, spankings with a switch, and anal, none of which appeal to me personally in the slightest. And Infernal ... well, that one is just _twisted_. I don't know what possessed me!

But then again, I write about a lot of things I'd never do in real life. That's one of the great things about writing. I do think it poses slightly more of a challenge in erotica, though.

I always write from my own ideas, because if they don't turn out, then I can just bury them and preted they never happened. You're very brave writing on spec.

I'd recommend research. E-mail them back, asking why they find those ideas so sexy, get more details. Also read up on some similar stories if you can to see how other authors have done it.

Two pieces of advise......

If you're determined to write about something you know very little about.......#1 Do research, or don't do it. It will show.

#2 If you don't like the subject matter...don't do
it...it will show.

I remain,

Dr M: Pakistani families (at least in the UK, I don't know about in Pakistan) are very, very close knit. In more religious families, children are expected to always obey their parents and girls are expected to be good and not go nightclubbing or kiss boys or get drunk or all the fun things. Maybe it's the forbiden fruit thing of being forced out by her family and treated as a whore when that goes against her culture. However I know nothing about Dhipa, so this is all surmise atm.
