'Are you alright Miss?' questioned a low and oh, so masculine voice that sent tremors down my spine. My mind wandering, I couldn't help but imagine hearing those husky tones coaxing me to a powerful orgasm. Realising I still hadn't answered his question, I quickly looked away, jerking my head up and down before finally managing to squeeze 'Uh, yes...Thanks' from my parched throat.

This isn't my text, but that of a friend whom I am editing for. We've got into a bit of a discussion over one of the pieces of description and have decided we need a second opinion. This paragraph is very early in the story and is the first time we meet the owner of the oh so masculine voice, and also not long after we meet our narrator. My opinion is that imagining 'hearing those husky tones coaxing me to a powerful orgasm' is a little too much, especially this early in the story. I have also opined that, no matter how sexy the voice, I couldn't imagine them talking to me in sex on first meeting. She disagrees.

So, opinions?

It would be pushing it a little, imo. However a voice can be more than enough to at least seriously tempt a person, even on the first meeting, especially if there's enough time given for the individual's tones and timbres to take effect.

er... uh... not that i would know. Yeah.

*cough*

Next question!

let's see...
My personal voice fetish is for tenors, not bass, but, yes, a voice can stir me to want to orgasm, at least. Husky is good.
Let there be something outrageous in the first paragraphs, it tells readers there's something to keep reading for.
There are all sorts of unlikely scenarios in erotica. A sexy voice is less unimaginable to me than a vampire, and I imagine vampires all the time!
As an editor, I see my job as bringing the story into readability, straightening out syntax, stuff like that- not dictating content. :)

I met an instructor in the Caymans. A girl with a kind of deep, raspy voice and this absolutely awesome Austrailian accent. And yeah, I'd have happily jumped her bones or let her jump mine as the case might have been.

Some people just have a voice that oozes sex appeal. I don't think it's too early to go on a flight of fancy. But a lot depends on the personality of the narrator.

Voice alone can be attractive to me, but the voices that have really done it for me over the years have always been due to the person attached to them...I can be attracted to just a voice I suppose, but kinda in the same way I can find a cut down picture that just shows one feature attractive.

Without the rest of the package, it is kinda just a "well, that's nice" thing.

I do have a couple of accents I find appealing, but I would say that similar criteria apply...

A seductive voice is a serious thing. I know a lot of people rhapsodize over a particular body part and I can't usually buy falling in love with a body part...but a voice? Oh yeah.

I've fallen in love with several people on the basis of their voice. One of them is my husband. We met online and the subject of seductive voices came up and we both dared each other that we each had sexy voices. We both won.

I'm also a singer, and having someone who can sing just melts my spine and my will along with it. The voice is a very strong thing, and I wouldn't have any problem going along with the concept you're questioning or putting several voices to it from my own memory and experience.

(and I've gotten propositions from telemarketers, gay men and phone operators on the basis of my voice)

Ah. Editor's not really the word for what I'm doing. She's experimenting and I'm mentoring really. She's one of my rl best mates, so it's all cool for me to be offering outrageously cheeky suggestions.

So we're of the opinion that a first sentence can evoke pictures of talking to orgasm? Fair nuff; I shall inform her that of course she was right and how dare I contradict her :D.

I'll be giving you a call in the next few minutes :D
I am very sensitive to voice, which is why I've had so many singers in my life...

The ending of the "Camp Fist" weekends, was me being rushed to the airport- my mistress driving at very high speeds- while she sang. "Danny Boy" was a favorite. I had to remind her to take my collar off
I was able to make my last GF happy and horny by singing "Me and Bobby McGee" to her, but I didn't have the chest of another friend of ours, who had amazing resonance, and, unfortunately, a real talent for mischief.

In male voices I like high tenors- Marc Bolan, Robert Plant and David Bowie, I think were the voices that I imprinted on  Prince, Philip Bailey, in the '80's

Jack White is my vocal sweetheart these days.

Oh yes, I've listened to a few voices I wanted to bring me to orgasm before now, and thoughts like that slip in very, very early in the conversation.

Voices really do something for me... :catroar:

Well, I'm now married to a guy who sings the soundtrack to Rocky Horror better than Tim Curry...which is why nobody gets to talk to him but me.

I'm a jealous bitch.

Hmm, since we haven't heard from any men, except for Earl who doesn't think so- maybe this is a girl thing?
I can't believe that!

Oh i know my husband has a thing for voices too, certain accents have him hard in seconds....

What, The WHOLE soundtrack?

As much as I adore Frankenfurter, I prefer O'Brien's voice- not to mention Patricia Quinn, who played Magenta, and also sang the title.

Yep, and now he sings the Buffy Soundtrack and Avenue Q and Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Chicago.

Who's picking on you
Twisting the wrist that's turning the screw..."

really? Which accents?

Lilting Irish, My accent ;), American accents like Alyson Hannigans and Abby from NCIS (don't know her real name) and I do believe a Geordie accent (North East england) does it for him too...

My best friend's husband has one of the sexiest voices I've ever heard in my life - it's almost like warm melted chocolate running over your nerve endings. *shiver*

I've told her I don't know how many times that I don't want him to cheat on her with me (although she knows that if he weren't spoken for, I wouldn't turn him down), but that I just want him to talk dirty to me. He has that kind of voice.

So, yeah...I'll agree with your friend, Earl. It is possible.

I have a friend, (no not my wife,) who has a voice that can get me hard enough to chip diamond in seconds. Warm, slightly husky as well as slightly deep. When she says my name with her spanish accented voice it does things I didn't think possible by sound.

Of course my wife finds this funny and tries to make sure me and my "girlfriend" (her term not mine, although,,,,,,,) at least talk once a day.

Having said this I would have to that yes, a voice can have that type of effect on people.

Cat

Yep, but that's still a lame way of putting it. I would describe the physical reaction. She would catch the tones of the Voice and her throat would dry, her pelvic muscles clench, her nipples rise, a frisson would pass over her body, whatever.

I have a friend who is 'transitioning' male to female. Hormones. Estrogen levels get up there and this kind of response happens in reaction to lots more than just voices. The woman you're talking to could be suddenly in the grip of an intense physical sexual reaction, because of something in the room you barely noted. A smell, a memory, a glimpse. Men haven't the estrogen levels for this, but it can happen pretty frequently.

I would use the physical sensations, not the phrase she has chosen. Much, much more erotic to read.

Jumping In

I would say that perhaps only those readers who have had a few rounds of phone sex with various partners would be able to appreciate those lines.

I don't think I need to expand on this do I?

:nana:

Voices...accents... Yup. Hear the right ones and my mind quickly wanders. ;)

'are you alright miss?' he said.

The question sent shivers down my spine. My mind wandering, I imagined hearing that voice in my bedroom. Realising I had not answered the question, I looked away and said "Uh, Yes, Thank you."

I prefer minimalism. The throat being parched.... is it necessary. The husky tones....a powerful orgasm..... Little need to overdescribe every thought and action.

If his vocal qualities are to be important to the story, then more detail is wonderful, if this is the only place she is to be in awe of his voice, there is normally little need to dedicate adjectives to describe it.
