Writing Goals

Goal...once again is just to finish something. I have a problem with finishing a story lately. I know what the end is to be, yet when I get to the point it's like hitting a wall. Each of the last three works have been like that. The current one is actually the final one, but not really.

If I can get 3,000 words typed...I'm usually happy. Any less and I feel frustrated. Any more I'm ecstatic. So far the last couple of days...nothing. :(

I've read about some writers being happy with writing one, well crafted sentence in single day. At that rate, they'd write a book every ten years.

I think I'd have a brain meltdown reading and rereading the same sentence over and again trying to make it a literary masterpiece. I mean, writing is a process. It's shouldn't be forced.

One sentence in day? C'mon. I wouldn't want to be standing behind this guy at the deli.

"What will you have?"

"Um..."

My goal this week:

1) Finish re-writing chapter 2 of my first (eventual) submission.
2) Start on chapter 3 if I can be really productive and not get sidetracked.
3) Clear my desk of work so I can actually have a chance at doing 1) and 2)

Finish this "Spanish journey" book edit I'm working on and get it back to the publisher.
Finish a pen name story and get it off for editing--and write one for another pen name.
Get a bunch of comp copies of mainstream anthologies I'm volume editing sent off to the contributors.
Finish the Another First Time anthology by writing the seventh, and last story, and getting it off to the publisher.
Get more reviewed on the Grab Bag 9 anthology that is due out in January.
Review a couple of more stories in the Grab Bag 10 anthology due out in April and get them off for edit.
Watch for the Lit. posting of my next GM spy short story, "H003," that was submitted yesterday.
Edit a partial chapter sent to me by my coauthor of our building A Season in Galicia novel.
Maybe see my The Photograph launched and announced here and on Goodreads.
Hopefully review the cover design for Bangkok Summer Seduction, so that can be launched in early January.

And this is a short production week, as I'll be traveling for four days of it.

I'm trying to finish my Christmas story. It is fighting me the whole way. Stories don't usually do this, but then this is only the second time I written to a theme. At this point I don't know if it will happen or not. Time to get off the boards and back to work I guess.

Every day is Saturday for me. This week I'll do some writing shit...or not.

You could write a similar story and add the theme after, maybe.

I don't set specific goals. Life has a way of interfering too much. So my plan is to finish a short story sometime this weekend.

Decided to try something different and instead of my usual conflict filled incest stories that I try to make as plausible as possible I am going to write three short ones that take place when the line has already been crossed and just some hot sex scenes that take place in close proximity to other people.

Finished the first one already, 4k which is very short for me.

A change of pace is always interesting. I've finished my 50k for Nano. I just spent the last day and a half hanging out (literally) with a set of redheaded sisters. My plot redheaded bunny bag is running over big time. :D

Hi there, first post here!

I am spending this weekend finishing up my Nanowrimo novel, It is an unedited mess, but I am happy to say its well over the 50k word limit to "win" Nanowrimo, so I am feeling pretty good. Im going to try to finish the story itself before the month is up.

I am not sure what I will do after that, any previous nano writers have any advice? I was thinking I want to post it here, but it will take a while to edit into chapters and to make it readable :)

I have had lots of ideas come to me as Ive been writing, so I may try to write something shorter and new, and let the Nano novel sit for a while. Im looking forward to posting something Im proud of to this site, as Ive read a lot of great stuff on literotica over the years but never posted anything.

Welcome to the madhouse.

Let it sit for a while and then reread with a red pen and notes to yourself. Do write something else. The more your write, the easier it gets and the more you learn.

Thanks for the advice!

I think this will be the plan, I have to say doing this for a month has made me fall in love with it. I have been writing every morning before work, and I think Im going to carry on that way regardless of whether I ever put anything out there or not.

I am looking forward to starting on something new though, cant wait to explore strange new things.

Get to 50,000 words in a ghost-writing contract by the 15th December.
Get to 35,000 by the end of tomorrow, Monday at the latest.
