Writing Goal for the Day?

"How does one write about Valentine's Day when one doesn't celebrate it?"

That's my challenge, the gauntlet set forth by my Better Half.

I'd go with what you've stated. Start your story with your reluctance to participate in the day and how you found a way to celebrate it with her. Not a far stretch to do really. As Tx said, how would you prove your undying love?

I do NOT show my undying love on that day because I do it ALL YEAR!!

I give her flowers because:

It's a Tuesday
She woke up on the right side of the bed
She had a bad day
It's sunny
It's rainy and she needs a smile

To me, Valentine's Day is just another day. One should show their love EVERY DAY, not just February 14.

Ok, I get that but what is the ultimate sacrifice you would make to show her how much you love her. Little stuff day to day is one thing, now go bigger. Much bigger.

She added, that I shouldn't use us as the couple in the story, since we're "Too sickly lovey-dovey", per the Spawn's words.

Using a man that doesn't celebrate the day because of some event that spoiled him would be a good start...

I have to separate myself from the character. Too long, still too in lust with my wife.

Go bigger, a man's ultimate sacrifice might be the key. Also, would have to NOT use the action/adventure stories of Cussler, Berry, Metzler, et al or it would turn into "Guy Fiction" LOL

Or someone who is too broke to go the hearts and flowers route.

Now you are getting the idea.:D

Red and White, the family's ideal in love..

Red equates to love
White equates to enternity
Red and White together is Enternal Love...

Sorry, sappy, but the Polish great-grandmother had some great ideas of love brought over from her small village.

That and some great vampire-killers, werewolf legends, demons and other monsters stories..some knights' tales...and some even about the Magi, like one was a Slav, a man from the northern Carpathians, where she was born....

Now you're getting off track again unless vampire-killers, werewolf s, demons and other monsters celebrate Valentines day. :D

Just an aside, as to why I'm believing I should return to college to become a Folklorist..have the Polish legends of my mom's family to deal with when coming up with story ideas, and my paternal grandmother's Mohawk heritage and her "Storytellings" of her tribe's legends and folklores.

I found an old, 400-word instant story I can expand into a Valentine's Day story. It will be a tear jerker.

So I had an idea for a story, inspired by a song, and it occurred to me I could use a character in an existing story for it, but not sure if I should go that road or make it a stand-alone...

Do both, make it a "spin off" the story will gain an audience for the series and vice versa.

Trying to edit through the first draft of my BDSM story, but the NFL is on and its killing me to not watch every minute of it. I allowed myself the 1st half of the Cincy/Houston game, now trying to get back into what I'm supposed to be doing.

I might. :) It was one of those things where it just dawned on me that most or all of the elements I want for this story are possible through this character and the set up he has, even though he's a minor character.

14-10 Detroit at the half. ;) My Caps aren't on until 10:30pm... just trying to make it through the first period...

Finished one old story so far and worked on two others. Approximately 9k words so not bad for a mornings work. :D

Got beta feedback on R&B8, plus the start of 9, so that gives me something to work on. I believe PennBoy had a successful birthday, so that's good.

With no hockey and no football, I think tonight's movie will be Dark City, inspired by a recent viewing of the 1927 Metropolis.

More trimming of a Shabbu novel down to a Stephen Kessel novella--and polishing up a story for the Valentine's Day contest.

Finished the 1st chapter of my BDSM series Tales of the Circle. Hoping to finsih editing tonight then submit Tuesday night.

There is no contest running and I am crossing my fingers for a back to normal 3 day submission period which would launch the series on Friday the Thirteenth.

Tomorrow I hope to start my Valentines day story.

My goal is to edit one story - which I'm doing now, so poor Dark, a member of the chain, who has the unedited one in his PM box - there is one sentence he'll be shaking his head at.

My other goal is to begin an Incest/Taboo story that is more toward the Taboo side of the genre than the Incest side, unless the muse says: "Hey, Red that won't work."

I have a rather unpleasant meeting scheduled for later this morning. If that doesn't leave me in too foul of a mood, then I might have enough time to finish DM 3. If it does leave me too irritated to write, well, there's always tomorrow.

Getting the final review of an e-book done today and tomorrow and get it to the publisher, so I can turn to polishing up the next one in the queue.

Went through R&B8, now just have to decide when to submit it, since R&B9 isn't done. I got feedback on what I've done so far, so that gives me a place to start. Also possibly got an idea for a Valentine's Day story, not sure if I'll have time to write it. Well, maybe I will but not for the contest.

Writing Goals: To get to the old stories which my wife and her friends have read this weekend and have recommended I rewrite and/or edit.

Overall Goals: To spread word that if you're sick, stay away from the gym!

Question time..

The story I am working on has one sex scene it is minor and only a small part of the entire work. The detail is not as descriptive as I usually right and involves two unrelated adults. Also there is a tiny and I mean a tiny part where the drunk dad tries to interact sexually with his daughter but is unable to because she unmans him. The tone of this story is about emotional connection and disconnection. It isn't meant to arouse as much as it is meant to make people feel sympathetic to the characters. I want to place it in Non-erotic because the story is not an erotic piece, it has those small bits I spoke of.

Can I just submit to Non-erotic, or should I let the live folks read it and they can decide what category to place it in?
