Writing Goal for the Day?

I received many comments about how realistic it is and I must have some experience-shows what most people think they know- finally I was redeemed by one "white witch" who took me to task.

It's funny what people think you know. When I wrote "Who Cares..." I think there was a comment that I must have gone through something like that and, um, no I hadn't. Glad they thought so.

Okay -- still crocheting anime characters. Can't seem to stop. But I made a fuzzy soot sprite!

I'm a lifelong horror fan and have studied the occult for years, yet have no desire to do a Halloween story.

No occult, just costumes and references to various Halloween traditions like trick-or-treating, costume parties, etc.

And for someone who's always talking about role play, I would think a story like that would be right up your alley. :D

Well it's sort of like how people who drink or party all the time refer to New years eve as "amateur night"

To me Halloween has become amateur night. A night for all the posers (not talking trick or treaters or people going to parties) but all the wannabes who think they know something come out and start talking their lame crap.

One of my favorite running jokes on Buffy was how the vamps and demons all took Halloween "off," saying it was no big deal and they didn't know why humans made such a big deal of it.

Right, but then major mayhem broke out because the humans or enterprising demons knew they would have free reign over Sunnydale, since the demons would be chilling.

Well, yeah. I mean, they weren't stupid, the demons and all. Plus then what would they have done for that episode? hahaha

Well, only 400 words on the Halloween story done (damn kidlet and her non-napping ways), finished the first read-through for the beta reading, and worked through some major revisions to the chapter. But thanks to PL's beta reading and sr's bridge knowledge, it's going pretty well. :)

So cynical, PL.

And by the way, I love your crafty projects.

ETA: Geez, this was a boring post.

Finish the Damn' Chapter

within lives in being plus 21 years. Frustrated, procrastinating, bitching....and occasionally quibbling.

Goal for today remains unknown. The Boy is pitching a fit of epic proportions, which doesn't do much for one's muse, or even powers of concentration. He has an amazing 7yo's ability to turn himself into the victim. Incroyable! So he can just stay in his room for a while.

The hub (who got a small raise, yay), has said that although he has to work this weekend, he will try to get me some writing time. Perhaps I'll try the early rising again; weekends are good for experimentation like that.

No writing today or tomorrow. Busy preparing for a 9/11 memorial concert Sunday of Mozart's Requiem. Anyone else involved in any memorial events?

I'm not, myself. I don't feel the need. I was in my office that day and watched debris from the Pentagon come down past our office window. I wasn't even sure what it was at the time. That's all the memorial I need.

I do wish the best to anyone who does attend memorial events.

Your office must be near where my daughter was living at the time (Potomac Towers). She lived in an upper story and the building is almost right on the Potomac. She was getting ready for work and looked out her picture window and there was an airplane flying down the Potomac at the same level as her window.

They held a memorial service three days after for one of her close friends who had been in the Pentagon and he wandered into a hospital the next day, having been walked out of the carnage and roamed around in a dazed shock for four days.

My neighborhood is planning a picnic for Sunday. I suggested that, although life does go on, perhaps we shouldn't be doing something like that on Sunday. I nearly upchunked when I heard an interview with the Jets coach on how they were dedicating their game on Sunday to the 9/11 victims and would win one for them.

Anyway, I thought Mozart's Requiem would be a good memorial--he died abruptly while composing it.

I was working in Crystal City at the time, about a half-mile straight on from the Pentagon. We were on the 14th floor. I worked for a publishing company that covered defense policy (among other things), including a newsletter called Inside the Pentagon, but none of our reporters were there that day, thank God.

That's an amazing story about your daughter's friend.

That was stupid about the Jets' coach. I can only assume his heart was in the right place but ... yeesh.

I actually wrote an essay within a week of it, I think, trying to record my thoughts on it. I need to find that.

ETA: Found the essay, but I actually wrote it in summer of 2002. Interesting reading now. but of course it's on a Win98 computer and moving the file is proving problematic. No wireless on that one, and too old for my flash drive.

Memorial Eucharist at Church tomorrow, for which I am doubling as crucifer and thurifer. Anthems to be sung were composed as memorials.

Ch 12 passed inspection with El Chile; made some minor changes, then sent it off to GQ.

I made it through 15 pages of editing today. Got to a good stopping place. Time for a break!

Not sure what I want to do now; I could start putting together Ch 13, or I may go see what there is to watch on TV. Some downtime for the brain might be called for.

Also got several loads of clothes washed, dried and folded; cracked the whip on the kids to clean up after themselves (somewhat); and played with the puppies.

Overall, a good day.

Wrote a bunch or the Halloween story today, but then had to delete most of it. I hate it when my mind runs away from me and messes things up.

No more work now. Important Michigan-Notre Dame game to watch. :)

Wait. You wrote it in 2012? I may have had a few glasses of wine with dinner, but even in that state, I am pretty sure you DON'T have a TARDIS. ;)

No writing goals over the weekend. My company has a show opening next week and, for some reason, I agreed to host the social events. Gonna be busy tomorrow.

On the other hand, I did have a VERY interesting job interview the other day....

No writing yet, but I'm hoping tomorrow. I did get to see Nightmare before Christmas and started working on another totoro for my girl. Really want to start writing, though. Want to finish Hockey Story #3, had an idea for Christmas, want to re-edit Numbers Game for publishing... damn... just too much to do.

LOL You're right -- I meant 2002. Man, it's not even December or January and I'm messing up dates! Geez. Ok, I fixed it.

But I bet I could crochet a TARDIS.

heh heh heh. I know about the job interview.

I got close to 13k words yesterday and didn't even know I would have the time to write that long before starting with it.
Does that count? ;)

It does. Quiet. You'll make the rest of us jealous. ;)

I'd lie if I’d say that I didn’t intend that... :D

But honestly: It's not always that easy. Took me about nine hours and only worked out because my mate didn't feel good and needed a rest.
Normally I won't get that much time more often than once or twice a month. And unfortunately I tend to need a fair amount of time to work with or don't get 'into the flow'.

So no '500 words a day also make a story' for me.
And that's without kids or time consuming pets (apart from that aforementioned mate)... ;)

Hi!

Well first time posting in the AH for a reason other than busting the balls of a certain someone.

Although I have been published, it has been mainly articles on coping with grief, self esteem issues, and surviving life after rape and domestic abuse. I'm also crossing my fingers on a book I recently submitted to Hayhouse.

Lately, however, I have decided to give erotica a shot. I wrote a 5,500 word story about a power couple who wants to involve another woman, but are worried about their reputation, diseases, all the things no one ever seems to worry about in group sex stories.

The woman meets a 19 year old college student who is in tears because her scholarship fell through and she is going to have to leave school and go back home to her dead end hick town. I'm sure you can figure the rest out from there.

I ran it by the other half who said it needs fleshing out, especially the sex scenes-there are two- so hope to do that tonight and tomorrow. If all goes right and I can find an editor maybe I can have it up to post in the feedback section soon.

Personally I'd say that it is next to impossible to write a story like the one you mentioned over a longer period of time.
5k to 10k words have to be done in one run. For me that is...

Unfortunately I just start to learn to keep my stories from dragging on... and on... and on...

I often start something planning a neat, short, enclosed story and end up with starting another chapter whenever one is finished.
Frustrating!
Even more so since I have about two to three million ideas to write about and tend to write another one ever time I get to write, anyway…

Nah… At least I carry on some projects now instead of abandoning them completely like before… ;)

5K to 10k words written in one sitting? I would never, ever get the time to do that. If that were my limitation, I wouldn't bother trying to write at all. It just wouldn't get done.

It is certainly interesting how different writers work so differently.
