Writing Goal for the Day?

I have the next four days off, and the most hard decision for dinner I have to make is whether or not to make a salad Sunday. Leftovers Thursday, a throw back to when both my wife and I grew up with not much.

I've spent the morning reading some notes I made in a composition book a few nights ago, after waking up from dreaming. God, it looks like a doctor wrote it..LOL

"No man but a blockhead ever wrote, except for money." Samuel Johnson

That would certainly reduce the number of writers to nil. Real writers do a whole lot of writing before they have the balls to ask to be paid for it.

The other editor told me in more colorful words that my other story was not crap and I just needed to tweak some points and submit the damn thing. So I won't toss it either. lol

Planning on finishing up a scene we started last night.

Already got some editing done but... kinda getting burnt on editing for now. Over 30k words gone over in the past three days, but I want it all ready as soon as possible so my mind won't let me stop editing!

I kind of distracted myself by picking up Stephen King's new one, 11/22/63 yesterday. What can I say? It was there. Now I've finished. That's a big book. However, I did get some writing done this morning, so that's a help. Tonight we're going to the Family Reading Night and Book Swap at PennBoy's school, but might get some writing done before bed.

I am going to have very little time to write until Sat. or Sun. but I did get a lot of ideas written down today, so that's a positive. I still need to decide on my Earth Day story - to continue on the path I was, or to hold off and start something entirely different.

Any writing goal I had for today was blown out of the water by my shithead of a boss. Somewhere along the line yesterday, he got the bright idea that the best way to get some new equipment to SW Missouri from outside Atlanta, GA, was for him to rent a pick-up truck for me and then... for me to drive to Memphis, TN to meet him.

Being a cheap bastard, he didn't want to pay more than a single day's rental on the truck. His plan? "If you pick up the truck at 6 p.m., drive in the morning, meet me in Memphis at noon; you'll be able to turn the truck back in by 6 p.m."

Memphis is 6 hours away. I left at 5:30 a.m. this morning and arrived at 11:45 a.m. After swapping things from his truck to mine, he suggested we do lunch, barbeque on Beale Street. Cool. Except we didn't finish lunch until 1 p.m. leaving me 5 hours to do a 6 hour drive.

Tomorrow morning, I get to drive five hours in the opposite direction to take our 17 year daughter to a scholar's weekend scholarship event at her first choice college. It's a private college. Tuition is $27K per year. Room and board, another $8-10K for a total fo around $36K per year. Without around $30K in scholarships, it's not happening. (She has $9K so far, so only $21K more to go, LOL!)

Maybe tomorrow night I'll get some writing done in the hotel while she's spending the night on campus.

Okay, so for my Earth Day story I see it taking two paths for my characters and I'm just going to have to accept it and move on. If I get it done in time great, if not I'll write a shorter piece and enter that. If I get the longer piece done during the contest, I'll just submit it, but not place it in the contest.

Also, I picked up a great and wonderful story idea that I hope to work on over the weekend.

I hope she's able to get the funding she needs, Bucky. I'll say a little prayer and keep my fingers crossed.:)

Oops, wrong thread!

Thanks just the same, Angellica.

In other news - that affects my writing - my less than 2 month old Toshiba Thrive Tablet fell from my desk and the glass broke. Apparently, Toshiba doesn't use Gorilla glass, so it's prone to that. New glass is about $185. Or roughly the price of the damn thing. PM me if anyone has an idea.

The laptop works, though. I'm in a hotel room tonight and hoping to do my first audio submission. Woot!

Bucky -- ouch and good luck. Wish I had any advice on that.

Writing goals -- oh, geez, just to write. It's been such a week. On a slightly different writing note, I got an email from my brother!

I have completed part one of my BDSM novel which is all new material.

Part two will be a combination of new stuff, but mostly material I wrote two years ago just before I started posting to lit.

It's going to be slow going as after two years here and finally getting some sort of a grasp on grammar this old stuff is hideous. The story is decent, but grammar non existent. I also had this annoying fetish with two words "actually" and "almost" in just about every case the word needs to be eliminated.

so this part of the project will be a lot of editing, rewriting and then playing "jenga" by getting the old and new stuff to gel together.

It will be long and tedious so time to start the caffeine IV and crank up some slipknot. It is going to be a fun day.

I'm still trying to decide what to write about. Shall it be two pussy loving women, or guys killing each other?

How about the guys kill each other leaving their grieving widows to fall into each others arms(and between each others legs.)

There's an idea. I'll get the women to strip down and start making out on the battlefield. The guys would stop battling in a heartbeat and watch, lmao:D

Still playing with my new tale. Worked-out the part that creates the central conflict with the backstory (the protagonist kills a family and flees), the new scheme is much better than my first plan.

So far: BACKSTORY. The protagonist, a Marine on leave, is dumped by his girl, runs a light, and kills a mom/kids. He flees prosecution by hijacking a plane to Cuba. Castro throws him in jail then recruits him for mercenary service in Africa. The husband/father of the dead family is a cop who vows revenge.

OPENING: The protagonist returns to the USA many years later, incognito, and is severely burned when he rescues a mom/kid kid from a burning car. His face and hands are toast, so to speak, when he goes back to the car to save a puppy. He refuses interviews with the Media, celebration by the community, and assistance by the father/husband of the family. The kid's father heads the local FBI office. Lotsa curiosity about the Mystery Man.

Modified the backstory to increase the tension and irony: NOW, mom runs a red light the protagonist is passing thru BUT he's speeding and his license expired. In this state the circumstances make the protagonist at fault, and carry a 30 year prison sentence with the death of anyone. That is, involuntary manslaughter becomes vehicular homicide.
