Writing Fantasy vs. Writing Reality - Gender Differences?

I've noticed an interesting trend since I posted my first piece to Literotica. I've had contact with several other writers, some men and some women. Each of the men I've corresponded with have told me that their stories are based on actual sexual experiences they have had, while the women (including myself) are more likely to write about their fantasies instead.

Is this true for anyone else?

The question is unclear.

Is it true that we've had more men than women claim to write "reality" based stories?

Nope, I've had just the opposite experience, if only by a slight margin -- both sexes tend to write fantasies more than reality.

Is it true that I, (a man), write based on actual sexual experiences?

Nope, everything I've written is totally fantasy with no resemblence to reality at all.

I never write about anything unless it is impossible..

..and reading about some guys conquests interests me about as much as fishing tales. 'Yuh shoulda seen the one that got away!'

I can only speak for myself. Many of the sexual scenes that occur in my writing are fictional. The scenes are dictated by the characters participating in them, the situation, the tone of the story, etc. However, I do draw on my own sexual experiences for reference. For instance, if I need to describe a hard penis, I think about what I've seen, felt, tasted, etc. to help me create an accurate picture. I will focus on my memories of cunnilingus to help me describe what the female character is feeling as it is being performed on her.

I will never write a story that focuses on a single sexual event in my life. I prefer stories with plot. Besides, it seems egotistical to assume that people will want to read about your sexual exploits, even assuming that you can write about them in an interesting way.

I can't speak for anyone else, but all the naughty stuff I write is strictly imaginary.

fantasy

So far all my stories have been in the clebrity category so obviously false. However I have some stories on the works (actually quite a few outlined already) that will NOT be in the celeb category. However, they are all still just fantasies. Yes, some small elements of reality may be used, but not an entire incident.

I think most fiction writing is more fantasy based than reality based. This only make sense. After all, most people daydream about events more exciting that the everyday elements of life. Who would want to read about someone that goes to work , does his (or her) job, goes home and watches TV.

my stories (I've only posted up one...but more will be coming soon!) are all fantasy-based.

I just type up stuff that I've dreamt up whilst masturbating.

fact or fiction

Hi

I have not yet submitted any writing, but I am working on one now, there are a few stories in here that have been istigated by myself, where I have chatted with authors, and given them some of my real life sexual acts, and some of my most inner desires and they have mixed them both in a stories that have been both good to read, and seem as if they could have happened with a woman who has desires and feelings like myself.

Fact or Fiction, i tried to write about my fantasies, but went way too far, over the threshold of believable, so i deceided to write about fact, as i am a little bit different to your average housewife, at home with the kids, my husband has pushed me sometimes to the limit, and i have taken on tasks that a lot of people outside of this group would find hard to comprehend, but within the circles of here and some of our good friends it is just another day at the office.

I have asked 2 seperate authors for help with editing my story to date before i put it up for all to read, but as of yet i have had no answers, so it may take some time before you all see my writings if i do not get help i am begging for.

I love this forum, the openness, honesty, and helpful ness from the members is fantastic, and reading some of the stories has helped myself and my husband understand where we get our feelings from, and apart from the odd unresistered users who always seem to put in there 2 peneth worth most comments and critisms seem to be formed from actual people who care, and may have lived out some of these famtasies, and sexual acts themselves.

i do ramble on a bit, but hope everyone understands where i am coming from

Hugs

When somebody asks whether a particular story is based
on reality, I have two standard answers:
"I write fiction."
"All my stories are true; none of my stories are factual."
:
That is to say, I try to write about realistic people in
realistic situations. (Okay, there are exceptions.)
I don't try to write about people I know or situations
I have been in or seen.
What is the art in that?
:
OTOH, I try not to use the fantasies of the sort in which
everything works out perfectly. I might fantasize about
some movie star falling in lust with my body, but I don't do so
in public.

I started a story based on my actual sex life, but trashed it after realizing that erotic fiction in which nobody gets laid would probably depress everyone else as much as it does me. :(

I go along with Rigged!!

I don't think that men necessarily write more about reality than women at all. I personally use my experiences in the same way as Whisper explained earlier in this thread, and some stories have more autobiographical content than others in character or even occasionally plot, but most of what I write is exactly what it says on the tin: fiction.

Some of my stories are not even really my fantasies, though, they're my characters' fantasies coming true. How weird is that? It's like... like I totally made it up or something! Beee-zarre.

:D

fantasy near reality

My stories are fictional, but they're sorta based on reality: they're the "next step" that I could take from my present reality. And then they're dressed up with different names and places to make them more interesting to others -- if I wrote about the people I actually know, I wouldn't put any effort into character development. By putting "new" characters into the same situation, I am challenged to create them for the reader. But if you knew me, knew my friends... you'd figure it out pretty quick!

The stories I wrote when I was a youngun' were about getting laid. Now my stories are about the next great things that I haven't done -- yet!

But I've thought about writing about my factual past. Suitably disguised, of course.

Damn, if this stuff was really happening to me, I wouldn't be telling you guys about it!

Personal experience...I write my fantasies. It's another way to experience them without actually having experienced them. However, I couldn't describe what it feels like to be pentrated if I'd never been penetrated, or what a good oral technique is like if I didn't have one.

Writing's-Reality or Fantasy!

Everything I write has a part of me in it. You just don't know which part :) But, parts of the stories that I write are also based on cybers that I have had. They are also based on Moreorles46 and my fantasies. After 28 years together, we still have them, more than ever, I might add. I write for us, things that we think are, could be, might someday be, HOT! I was asked the other day what I wrote, I said, Erotica. They said what's the dif between Erotica and Porn? I said, "I don't use pictures." :D I also don't want to hear about someone else beating on thier chest, bragging. So It takes alot of different parts to write a story for me.

a fair question.

First I am not following you chewy. Even though you were nice to comment on my little thread about feedback.

I write fantasies for the most part. The actually physical discriptions are based on expierence i suppose but the story line is all fantasy sorry but I just never made it with mom or sis.
