Writing Exercise

The chain story sounds like each one has to pick up where the other left off, I believe it actually uses those words.

Nope, chain stories don't have to work that way. They can or they can all be stand alone stories that center around the same theme.

That's what I thought. Wonderful :)

I have no objections. I was just going by what I read in the FAQ:
A Chain Story is one in which several (3 or more) authors collaborate to create a story on a specific theme or topic. The first author writes the first chapter of the story according to the theme or topic. The next author reads the previous chapter and picks up where the first author left off, continuing the story as he or she sees fit. And so on, and so on...until the last chapter is completed.

But, since I have never done a chain story, I don't know if they ever actually work that way in practice. So if you want it to be a chain story, then we'll need to have a unified title, so keep that in mind in your PM's.

Alright, I only got four sets of words, so everyone gets both of their words, plus two of mine gives ten. If you still want in, but didn't send me a PM, feel free to write a story. I'm also sure in a couple of weeks we can do this again.

So without further ado:
Charity
Harmony
Lavender
Painting
Remote
Ribbon
Skulk
Sky
Solace
Transform

And so we can all post it as a chain story, a unified title: "The Set"

For Chain Story purposes, we also need to establish a publishing order and schedule. I was thinking we would each post to a thread here, then each submit in turn to Lit?

I'd prefer posting straight to Lit. I have a tendency to get fairly verbose in my writing. ;)

OK...let's give it a shot....

Ok--the words look fabulous :D

I just need to clarify something though--I seemed to be confused  :

Is someone going to start "The Set" and each person pick up where the last left off, or are we just writing our own individual pieces under "The Set" title?

Thanks :rose:

EDIT:

If you wanted to start a seperate thread for the pieces that are directly submitted to Lit, we can link to the stories and people can comment or whatever in that thread :)

The idea is that everyone creates their own story that is inspired by the title and the words. Don't worry about connecting to the previous story in the chain.

Just checking in to see how everyone is coming along...hopefully better than I am. :)

Yeah, I've been working on other projects tonight, doing some reading . . . I won't be able to get to this until the weekend.

Having trouble getting going, Script?

BTW . . .

 back!

Yeah, a little trouble. Have a premise and a rough outline, but having trouble with the opening. This is unusual for me, because I can usually write an opening without knowing anything about the story. I then shape the plot and character development around what I've just learned about the characters in the opening scene.

*sigh*

I sometimes write the same way. or I'll think of some dialogue between two characters, then imagine how they got to that conversation.

Hmm . . . just had an idea. Let's each come up with a sentence that uses at least two of the words on the list. Wanna give it a try?

:)

That wouldn't have anything to do with the vineyard thread would it? ;) :D
lol, no, it has to do with me being lazy and playing with my cards and my video games and watching TV instead. :D

I have a line of thought and I'm running with it :D

It's turning out to be a lot different than what I normally write, which is cool :)

But it will probably end up being a fairly short piece in the end, I think:D

:) I'm sure mine has nothing to do with the fact that I'm screwing around on lit.....nope, that can't be it... *whistles and looks away* :D

Awesome E! Sounds like the exercise is working for you! :)

I haven't started yet either. But last night a thought came to me and the story began unfolding. totally different direction than first occured to me.

Anyway, we still need to establish an order for the chain story.

I'd like to participate if that's okay (though I'd want to be towards the end of the chain schedule.) I have an idea for a story based on the title and words.

This is Crim's alter ego, btw. ;)
