Challenge: Guess this character

Description is one of the more difficult aspects of writing. Some writers feel that a mere paragraph recounting hair and eye colour and clothing is enough to suffice, yet when I think of character I like to think in dimensions greater than two. A porn/erotic character doesn't just look this way or wear these clothes or is good or bad, dominant or submissive, but is made up of gestures, idiosyncrasies (habits), and traits that make his/her "character" more rounded and real.

This challenge stems from a number of recent threads (Gauche, Dr.M) I have visited or lol started (Slash fiction).

With this in mind, I thought it might be fun to do a little descriptive writing game. Almost all of us are familiar with television and movie characters and there's a plethora of them that are famous or infamous: Yoda, Darth Vader, the Fonz (you get the drift).

My proposal is this:

To describe a known character without giving us a name or a physical appearance, but only through other aspects that make up character like gestures, traits, dialogue, action etc. It can be written in any genre that is listed as a category on Lit.

The goal to see if we can aptly describe an already established character by reinventing that character in a sex setting. The success of the goal is determined by how many Ahers can actually guess the character you describe.

Parameters:
1. The preference is to describe at least one TV or film character that would be familiar enough to the greatest number of AHers so that they might guess who the character is. In other words, not describing some obscure secondary character like a munchkin from the Wizard of Oz or giving away familiar dialogue one liners like "Come on, make my day", although inventive variations of dialogue are welcome.

2. Your character can come from any TV or movie genre including comedy, horror, reality TV, or even Home and Garden.

3. Length of the scene/description should be kept to a minimum of not over 1000 words.

Just feeling the proposed challenge out at the moment and want to see if/ and/ or how many people would be interested.

Cheers!

Can you pencil me in? I very much want to partake, but I'm swamped with uni work right now...

Pencilling :D - BUMP

This could be cool . I have a vague idea. I'll see if I get something together.

1000 words is looooong though for a character desription. (especially for a guess-the-guy challenge) If I can't get the essence down to pat in 100 words, I feel I have done a sloppy job as an author.

Character development seems to be haunting me... I'll give it a go here in a bit.

Agreed, could we say 100 or 200 words to a 1000 word max?
also - do we vouchsafe to anyone who the character is, like with the 500 word story challenge?

Clue me... I mean count me in. I've just spent almost the whole story for Earth day delineating the characters (sans very much description) before getting to some par-boiled jerking as a kind of ending.

*blink*
So this is a maximum of 1000 words and a minimum of however many less it takes?

"His cock was like a mighty Sequoia, covered with splinters and pine pitch..." No, that's not what she means.

Wait, wait (raises hand). I know. I know

Would that be Paul Bunyan? And does that mean you win?

;)

Well, this would be so perfect a challenge for me, except that- I haven't watched popular T.V. in at least five years and I hardly ever see movies...

I almost always describe my characters' looks with a few brushstrokes here and there, and go as far as possible in describing their personalities via action, speech, attitude, and -- if I can pull it off -- by other character's reactions to them. At least, that's what I try for!

I'm such an old lady- All my Pop Heroes left the scene before some of us here were even born....

I'm thinking what Charley means, Stella, is she is looking for the personality and mannerisms of the character, not their looks.

Also - just cos they were around before I was born, doesn't mean I've never heard of them - Marilyn Monroe, Marc Bolan, Freddie Mercury, Clark Gable - all before my time to one extent or another, but I reckon I'd recognise a description...
Just make sure they're good and famous :)

yeah, duh, Miss Hipshot!

I suppose I could have added a few more words there. What I tried to say is that I concentrate far more on personality traits than on looks when I describe a character.

If Vermilion figures she can recognise some 1970's or '80's celebrity, than I'm in- unless I miss the deadline, as i so often do...

Bring it on ;)

But to whom do we submit the name of our celebrity so the contest can be judged fairly?

Bumping.

I didn't have a deadline in mind, yet. Wanted to see if there was interest first. I see there is. :D I am away for a few days this weekend, so neither myself or Lauren would be able to write anything until returning.

How about a week's deadline? That should be ample time ... All submissions can be sent to me through PM and I will post them in a new thread all at once so that guessing on submissions can commence at the same time (as opposed to one person posting their submission one day and another person posting a week later). In which case, I guess I can't participate in guessing. :(

I can still write something though! Unless anyone is opposed to that?

Deadline: Midnight, EST, Thursday, April 26th - (I will post submissions in a new thread on Friday morning, the 27th between 6 and 8am GMT).

Let me know if you have a problem with this proposed manner of posting the submissions. If not, then all will go forward accordingly.
