Writers Orgasm?

For the many writers and readers, I have an issue I hope you can help with. During my writing I experience a time of immense "excitement" and I come down leaving me feeling empty. Kinda like an orgasm. I am all excited, it crests, and then it is out of my system. Which I guess would be good since I have a problem cocentrating while I have a story floating aroung in my head. My only issue is this usually leads to a lack of ability to read what I wrote during my excitement and lack of drive to complete my story, hince I have not posted any of my stories. Any ideas? Any one else with this same problem?

I know exactly what you are talking about!
Writing as always a bit masturbatory, and of course erotica writing is even more obviously so.
For me, though, the drive to have my work read and my ego stroked- pushes me past that lassitude...

Can you recreate that enjoyable feeling when you re-read or edit your work?

Wow, I certainly wish I could.

I love the excitement when writing, but editing is a bore. Not at all erotic for me.

I think that's referred to as Premature Articulation. :D

Start with very short stories... like people are making fun here of it as premature ejaculation, a training principle does apply.

What you're trying to do is shift some of the pleasure of writing to the pleasure of completion (no pun intended) to the pleasure of seeing your writing up, to getting people to send you emails about it.

As you practice with shorts, move on to longers stories which are actually (logically) composed of short sections... and focus on the story as if you were coloring by numbers, one section at a time being the 'start, middle, and end' of your personal process.

In other words...you need to shift some of your pleasure from wanking privately to wanking publicly. You need to shift from being introverted to being exhibitionistic.

I'll tell you, honestly, that a hell of a lot of the pleasure of writing and editing comes directly from the anticipation of the readers' responses for me.

I guess the thread starters first submittal should be in the 'Exhibitionist/Voyeur' cat then. ;)

I do agree that receiving feedback in all forms from readers is quite satisfying.

Even the creepy ones have their own magic--and some story ideas on occasion. :D

PMSL :D You are soooo right. I love it when they demand that you turn something that's meant to be nothing more than a single stroke piece into a serial. :cathappy:

Inarticulate complaints about how the sex scenes aren't long enough or insufficiently graphic are my personal favorites.

My standard reply (if I could send one) to critiques of this type is that this story is neither a treatise on the human anatomy--or a short course in gymnastics.

It's all very amusing. :D

*cough*cough*

Actually, I would say it is shifting your pleasure from masturbation... to getting others off.

Nothing like that email that says "Please... please... no more! I've rubbed it raw!"

I love that ones that say, "Wanna chat? I'm so hard right now!"

And I'm thinking - No! Suffer!

:D

I have a guy who PMs me regularly about my stories. He says he couldn't write like that because he'd be wanking the entire time and wonders how I do it. I didn't have the heart to tell him I'm too busy making sure the grammar's up to par, the spellcheck's still working and that the brown-eyed girl isn't suddenly a green-eyed redhead to pay any attention to what they're actually doing up there. ;)

*sigh*

Don't you folks know how to have any fun?

My usual response to those emails is... "Oh, I insist my slave-girl lick my balls the entire time that I'm writing. When I've completed my required word-count for the sitting, I cum on her face."

I tell them something similar.

Except I'm usually the slave girl.

;)

Hmm... I'm trying to figure out the positioning of you typing while licking said balls.

Thank you for the visual ;)

That's not a problem I've ever had. I am graphically inclined. ;)

Hmmm...never had that one either.

Someone did "shudder in revulsion" once. :D

Little Brown Jug.

No, not little brown jug, I mean In The Mood.

Sometimes we are in the mood for rough sex, sometimes snuggly sex and sometimes athletic sex, whilst the sex is usually satisfying there are times when it can be amazingly satiating because you and your partner's moods coincide.

I think this is true of story writing. If we are lucky and can type at 300 words per minute then the mood for that story can be maintained until the end (which is why short stories are known as quickies!) When the tale is longer than our concentration we have to attack it as the mood strikes. Often times the mood for that particular story won't strike again for a long time after the initial burst.
Sometimes the mood will hang around for days or weeks and we can complete the 10-50 thousand words in a sustained effort.

I think the trick is to keep the story buzzing in your head when not writing, even background buzzing is useful, because if you go back to it months later and you don't recognise it then it's difficult to carry on from the point you left off.

Truer words were never spoken regarding my current writting position on my long pieces...*sigh* and yes, must keep it in your mind when having one of those 'block' periods.
