Writerly gripe thread

I know we had one of these type threads, but it's pages back now.

Dear brain: OK, I know she doesn't want this kind of sex - that's the whole damned point. Will you stop fiddle farting around and just finish writing the damn secene so I can get back to the story??

Oh, I don't fight with the brain on this sort of issue. I let it go ahead and write what it wants. It almost always does a whole lot better than I could have had from what I thought I was writing.

But the problem is, my brain knows this scene is integral, but keeps skipping over it to come up with the detail for the scenes that come later, but refuses to get to the nitty gritty of the nasty sex.
It's really annoying!

If it were me, I'd listen to the brain. Invariably it would be trying to tell me something I needed to understand.

Why not just ask the characters what they want to do or don't want to do? They know more about it than the author does, and they generally do what they want anyhow.

So, they've tied her to the bed and we're halfway there...and that's where I've stopped writing...again.

If you're reluctant to write it, chances are you can't write successfully--certainly not with any heat. Have it happen off stage or after you've broken away from the scene if you can't buy into only writing what your brain is telling you should be written--or remain stuck, I guess.

Maybe try to find something that might subtly change her mindset? Maybe she remembers something, gets scared of something... I dunno, but if she's dead set against it, there should be some sort of trigger that will get her to agree.

Do a fade out, proceed with the story and return later when the mood strikes you.

How can they have a DP if she's tied to the bed? I have written dozens of DP's. One man is lying on his back; she is lying on top of him and the second man is lying on top of her. She is in the middle, like a sandwich. If she is seriously tied to the bed, how can they do that?

She's maybe seriously tied to the bed on top of some guy who's seriously wedged under her?

Where we go from there to arrive at a penetration might be a tad difficult to succinctly describe without setting off a round of giggles, though.

I still think you can have her tied to the bed and lying on her back, and one guy gives her a titfuck. Sideways or spooning wouldn't work. If she has that much freedom of movement, she would't be "seriously" tied to the bed. One guy could squeeze underneath her, but that just seems too awkward.
