It was cut down in its prime and became a martyr. Fans rallied around it and made it far more well-known than if it had aired more seasons.

Yes. Brian Henson was the showrunner and primary creative force behind Farscape alongside Rockne S. O'Bannon.

I think Serenity is a perfect encapsulation of what would have happened. They explained the Reavers. Is it better that we explored that mystery? Did it help to uncover the awful origin story of a boogeyman, or was it better to leave them mysterious and never know why?

Same with the Borg in Star Trek. They went from an enemy that could not be reasoned with to a nerfed group that lost any kind of scariness or mystery.

Overexplaining is a subtle but pervasive problem with any kind of storytelling that is inevitable when there is overexposure.

And that is why, personally, I put more of the credit for Farscape on Henson. His mind for practical effects allowed Farscape to pull off weirdness no one else could come close to.

It aired with Jack of All Trades. There isn't a Bruce Campbell show I haven't watched and loved and I think it piggybacked on that.

Even Farscape, a show I absolutely fucking adore, does not have the social credit and legend that Firefly does. Farscape more or less got the correct number of seasons for its premise. It would have benefitted from fewer episodes per season, I think, to cut down a little on the bloat, but all in all it had a pretty successful run.

I came to it through streaming, and really enjoyed it! Very fun, weirdly sexy, and the puppetry holds up so much better than the CGI from that era.

100%. That way it gets to be remembered as that cool thing that ended too soon, and not as the show that jumped the shark with a gang-rape episode.

As it was, "Objects In Space" felt a bit skeevy.
