Would you pay a subscription to Literotica if it led to better service?

Oh and fix the damned preview so <blockquote> shows up properly. That should be for everyone, though.

I wouldn't pay a subscription as a writer here simply because I don't submit enough. If I think about the features I'd like, the biggest one would be ready access to support and that's not something I'd want to pay for.

The argument that is always put to anyone with any issue with the site is, “It’s a free site, ask for a refund.” The obvious rejoinder is, “But they are running a business.”

But… putting out money where our mouths are, would you consider paying a subscription to Literotica if it led to better conditions for authors?

Nope. I write content. For ni monetary compensation. That draws eyes.

No.

Not for readers, I assume free as now. I mean for authors.
That would be like Goodwill charging you to donate items.

There would have to be a lot more than, "We'll make it easier to give away your content for free," or it would simply kill the site even faster than the current problems.

I like how SOL does pay accounts.

Non-paying members (authors and readers) can access stories that are marked for non-premium access. They have limited search options compared to paying members, but I rarely found that to be a real problem finding stories.

Paying members can access everything and have additional features like enhanced search options and favorites lists.

Authors that upload a certain amount (500k combined file size) are gifted premium memberships.

Some stories are uploaded by authors as premium access only, but the vast majority are freely accessible.

The biggest difference is the amount of communication and presence that the webmaster there has. If you contact him, you get a response, and while the design is stuck in 1998, features are added.

Not sure that better conditions will be the outcome at all. My statement is not based on me being an author but rather a reader and when compared to another particular site names not mentioned which is also a paid site but has a free element, the feedback from authors is very much the same as those here on lit. But again, I make this comment not as an author as a reader. I’m all for whatever works happy to pay happy to not pay easy come easy goes.

Nope- other than exposure, there is no ROI.

I'm not sure I'd want the fee to show up on my credit card statement. Granted, it wouldn't be 'Literotica' but would be something generic that wouldn't take much of an internet slueth to ferret it out.

If I did, I wouldn't want anything specific, I just want them to be responsive and communicative.

I’m not proposing that readers pay.

Bad idea. Now you’re telling me we not only have to produce the content the site sells, but also pay to do it? This model is backwards. Normally, large sites share their ad revenue with content creators rather than charge them. Don’t give them ideas. If they want to improve the quality of the site, Laurel and Manu need to run the business better. I can’t imagine why a site this popular can’t make enough money to hire a few staff.
No need to pay new staff. Just devise a system within which contributors can be promoted to administration. Many successful sites rely on volunteers to help run things.

There is no ROI in posting our stories here. Our time is valuable.
I think we do get something in return -- readers' eyeballs. A story here may get 1000's of views. How much do you think a company would pay to get 1000's os people to read a few thousand words they wrote. Does anyone here have an alternative to getting those views?

I think most of the author's here crave those eyeballs in one way or another, whether it's views or comments or ratings or followers or whatever. Some of it may be for purely ego stroking, others may be looking for feedback to improve their writing. Those both have value. A few are looking to build enough support to justify getting paid for writing.

No.

I've long since learned to live within the site's limitations. There are things that bug me, but they don't bug me anywhere near enough to make me want to pay a dime.
