Holy crap. That's a scary movie. Leaping, teeth-clicking zombies.

I'm not sure why the teeth clicking was important, but a few of them did a lot.

The science was seriously dumb in practice, but well described in theory.

But seriously, leaping zombies and piles of bodies and body parts moving at high speeds are a thumbs up.

I could just see the casting manager "That guy just clicked his teeth! That was genius! We're going to put him in heroic zombie makeup and make him do that again and again!"

Make them sound like the velociraptors from Jurassic Park too!

Yikes. I'm gonna say it. Brad Pitt did a good job

I hated it.
Walked out. Which is saying something, cos we were in Gold Lounge..recliners, waiters etc... usually I can watch any old shit in those comfy-as chairs.

Really? We didn't see it in the theaters, I was happily ensconced with pizza.

What did you hate?

I'm not into the whole 'zombie' concept. I can't get into nonsense story lines. Zombies are nonsense.

When I went to see it, I never knew what it was about...I just saw'World War blah blah...' I was thinking WWI or II.

Oh! Yes. The story was entirely nonsense.

It's beauty was in the sheer velocity of body parts and imaginative ways to jump out at you and the fact that Poor Brad Pitt never got a break except that he wasn't eaten sometimes.

I like World War II movies also, but I'm big on the nonsense.

Nah, see, I have to be able to immerse myself in story/concept in order to really enjoy it. The whole concept has to have some validity - I have to be able to believe in it.

Sci-fi gets a free pass because it is future focused, therefore I can't, with any surety, know what will and will not happen in some future time. Pretty much anything can happen. Alien, and the sequels/prequels? Fucking loved them.

But teeth clicking zombies, in my here and now? Nah, that's bullshit nonsense.

Fantasy gets a pass a lot of times. Zombies are fantasy because they're scary but they follow no actual laws. They eat but they don't regenerate. They are just the embodiment of hunger. In that case they should die fairly quickly if they can't feed. And if they just live forever and are menacing then that violates lots of laws of physics and biology.

Sci-fi for me doesn't get a pass, because if they want fantasy, do fantasy. I like Sci Fi because it's supposed to be a good idea that's based on real science.

I loved the Alien movies because that was a decent premise.

However, I loved the original Star Trek and although campy and silly they did actually try to project some science into the future and now we've got sliding doors and communicators and tricorders.

But the Star Trek movies by J. J. Abrams makes me think that I should be able to tie him to a pillory and every Sci Fi and not Fantasy fan should be able to punch him in the gut until he dies.

I'm with you re: Star Trek.
Now I'm thinking...after Alien, the Terminator - oh yeah.
Maybe I'm a Sarah Connor/Ridley wannabe :D

Bless you sister.

They are excellent role models. I would probably wanna be 7 of 9. Be that smart and look that good and go all those cool places and kill people and solve problems? Yes please.

Such a misleading thread title

Zombies! Wasn't expecting that. Haven't even heard of the movie.

Oh Well! Not a genre of films I enjoy. Blood and gore- yay! The walking dead- nay.

The Walking Dead was great it's first season. Then for inexplicable reasons they fired all the writers.

The second season I was antagonized by the beautiful characters that previously had stories and were now just whining and doing dumb things. I rooted for the zombies. Then I stopped watching.

I would cheer when a zombie would eat someone and be disappointed when they survived.

not seen it but want to - i'll check my disbelief at the door and just immerse myself in it as much as possible. yay!

:) Hello!

When I said the walking dead, I was just referring to zombies (I'm not into zombie flicks.... although Shaun of the dead was somewhat funny). I haven't seen the show.

Sarah Connor, Terminator 2... What arms!

I wish I could do pull-ups like that. Make no mistake, I'm pretty tough... but can't execute a single pull-up.

I was impressed by a lot of their choices. People looked like people and not movie stars, it had a good emotional story and integrity and reasoning and backstory and women and men got to kick ass and/or have random horrible stuff happen.

Ulaven was even effectively startled a few times. Never happens, I hop around and shriek and have my hands over my mouth all the time.

At one point I said "Dude, I think they're really trying to scare us."

The science is total crap, but I can forgive them that.

I probably haven't seen ALL the zombie films, but a high percentage.

And every now a really good actor will stand out when they get their first shot at a movie.

I remember Jeremy Renner in "28 Weeks Later" and thinking "That random helicopter dude has a lot of talent."

sciencs-schmience . . . i just want to enjoy it for what it is - a movie. if it makes me jump, all the better :D

my boss went to see it at the cinema with her boyfriend. he loved it, couldn't stop talking about it. she fell asleep. lolz. she's more into films like Grease.

and shaun of the dead? priceless. when they're in the back garden going through the record collection to see which to throw at the zombie-woman? oh. my. sides.

Some of my favorite horror movies are comedies. I loved Shaun.

"This Is The End" was technically comedy, but it had a lot of horror and it was AWESOME.

"Cabin In The Woods" was really great.

"Tucker And Dale Versus Evil" is one of my all-time favorites.

That's why horror holds a great spot in my heart. If you can work the scary and the hilarious back to back, I will clap for you.

comic-horror's great, but i love one that can creep me out - and that usually involves either children or puppets. not seen the ones you've listed so will keep an eye out for them.

have you seen any of Under The Dome? big disappointment having read the book. :(
so many of his books get wrecked when they're brought to screen, but i had hopes for this one.

You should see "Mama" I had never heard of it, but it was great. Kids. One of those spooky-scary-touching-makes me cry stories.

I tried to watch a few episodes on Amazon, but it just seemed like stupid people doing stupid things in an inexplicable stupid situation.

I don't mind mysteries, but it's like "Lost" - your overriding "mystery" arc has to be supported by great personal stories that pay off in the short run. Just a mystery will not do. Once the personal stories lose their interest, nobody gives a damn about the mystery. At least I didn't.

another i'll look out for, thanks

it really is just about that. i keep watching, hoping it'll get better - the acting's so clichéd it hurts me to watch and still i hope. yeah, i'm an idiot.

if you didn't read teh book, reci, i'd recommend it. loads more going on in it.

right, off to play bejewelled 2 for a while. ta ta :rose:

saw parts of it... but i got a little bit too high an fell asleep :(

another good movie that looks good is, "gravity"

I'll have to check it out. I wonder how much suspense you can get from being in space.

"Firefly" had a moment where there was a mercenary who was just stuck in space and all he said was "Yup. Here I am." or something like that and that seemed like /endscene

Maybe they have more up their sleeves.

I saw this in the theater and I got my jollies out in a thread that came out when it came out, but I'll stan for it again. It was a fun summertime gas to watch, blemishes and all.

The Jerusalem sequence is aces. The whole movie should've been that, in extension. Just relentless futility and dread.

Overall, it made its budget back twice internationally and there is a sequel in the works.

Oh good! I kept being happily surprised. Like the CIA actor in the cell with the tooth thing. Which I still didn't get because everyone in Jerusalem appeared to have teeth...anyway...

I heard him start to talk and I got happy. "Oh! I love that guy! Under all that makeup is one of the best guys in Hollywood who does a menacing quiet scary voice. He looks like a geometry teacher but they keep making him a bad guy because he can taaaaalk." Excellent casting for type and voice and I love that the Jerusalem military LOOKED like the Jerusalem military. "Thanks for putting girls in there, 'cause they do that."

I loved the dialogue.

We will happily see a sequel in the theaters.
