Me and me Mum and me Dad and me Gran
We're off to Waterloo
Me and me Mum and me Dad and me Gran
And a bucket of Vindaloo
Vindaloo, vindaloo
Vindaloo, vindaloo, vindaloo, nah-nah. :D

For any who aren't certain of the combatants, here is a list:

A GERMANY (19) COSTA RICA (26) POLAND (29) ECUADOR (39)
B ENGLAND (10) SWEDEN (16) PARAGUAY (33) TRINIDAD & TOBAGO (47)
C NETHERLANDS (3) ARGENTINA (9) IVORY COAST (32) SERBIA & MONTENEGRO (44)
D MEXICO (4) PORTUGAL (7) IRAN (23) ANGOLA (57)
E CZECH REP. (2) USA (5) ITALY (13) GHANA (48)
F BRAZIL (1) JAPAN (18) CROATIA (23) AUSTRALIA (42)
G FRANCE (8) KOREA (29) SWITZERLAND (35) TOGO (56)
H SPAIN (5) TUNISIA (21) SAUDI ARABIA (34) UKRAINE (40)

As I have indicated in another post I am rooting for Canada and as soon as they let us practice with a soccer ball instead of a puck we will be there (and triumph). In the meantime, Mexico is my team. I'd go for Korea as the wild-card!

How'd that last international hockey competition go for you guys again? :nana:

(I share your pain, US sucked too, but at least everyone expected us to)

Grrrrrrr...because of an outdated ranking system that had Mexico seeded above the U.S. despite recent results, Mexico is in a group they should skate through with their eyes closed.

Meanwhile, we get the Group of Death and a likely date with Brazil if we make it through...

You meant the seeding system right?

I think USA and Mexico are pretty close. I don't think any of the seeded teams are especially weak. England and Italy are both traditionally strong teams, and Germany is the host and better than their ranking indicates.

The US got an insanely tough draw this year, but that can be a sort of blessing. If you go far, you get respect, if not, you can blame the draw :)

Yes, things didn't go too well! Proves that even 'dream teams' have their problems sometimes (Oops, didn't mean to open up old basketball wounds :nana: ).

Hey it is great to see that at least a few Americans are supporting their team! But I agree, you got into a tough group there! Good luck! ;)

It was good to see Rooney off back to Germany last night - even if he doesn't play much, it'll be a psychological boost to the England team and the supporters too :D

It all kicks off this afternoon, and England play their first game tomorrow.

GO THE LADS!!!!

Good thinking... miss out on the poncy wedding and all the fancy clothing, just turn up in jeans and teeshirt for the reception.

What plonker booked a wedding on England World Cup Day ??

It was 1-0... I went out to make a cuppa, came back and it was 2-1. Exciting stuff!! Go Costa! :D

I was staggered to see its showing live on Stateside TV.

Wow!!

And no........I'm not watching it.
Why on earth would I want to do that??

Germany's defense looked shaky but their offense was brilliant as they beat Costa Rica 4-2 in Friday's World Cup opener.

That's strikers or at the very least frontmen. no offence.

Germany's last goal -damn, that was just WOW!

As much as i hate to admit it *chuckles*

*tickles gauche* lighten up man, lighten up! :D

I thought I'd kick off ("kick off", geddit!?) with a joke that made me snicker...

GOOD NEWS!!!

Wayne Rooney can play in the World Cup so long as he gets a cortisone injection.

Bad news is David Beckham is threatening to pull out unless he gets a new car as well.

And if any of you septics whinge and complain, and/or degrade football in any way, or even ask who anybody is that might be discussed in this thread, I'll smack ya! You hear me??? And not in a fun way. :catroar:

Come on England!!!!

(That's a chant, btw, not a request. )

HA, YOU LAST SEASON OLD FART with your colonizing English attitude hoping because Arsenal (hear the parts of the word ARSE and all) ALMOST, but did not quite make it in the season finale, (see wikipedia under 'losers') that the BRITS will possibly make it to FIFA FINALS. I am still voting on France! VIVA LA FRANCE and the rest of you can eat cake!

(PS - did you get in on Laurens game? and great to see you sexy  )

The first one was even better.

I watched the game on the rhine promenade with hundreds of others. It was a great game. The weather was absolutely gorgeous (as were countless girls :D ) and we won the first game! Great way to start the tournament.

If we can continue this, Germany can go far in the tourney ... now Nowitzki needs to beat the Heat and we win the World Cup and everything would be perfect (well, for perfection I'd need one of those gorgeous girls also, but I'm working on it :D ).

And we have the first surprise as well. Ecuador beat favored Poland 2:0 ...
