The Czechs are a tough lot, but maybe they'll fall apart in the second half. ;)

And it was scored not even ten minutes into the game... *sigh*

:p
there's alot of Early goals going in so far, but Australia bounced back only a few hours ago - you never know.

Do you, lou? That's the magic of it. You can never be 100 % how the game wil go.

There's still hope? *sniff* And here I was waiting for hell to freeze over. :D

Thanks EL and Lou, we yanks might make it yet. :)

I've got seven teams listed as possible semi finalists. Germany, England (Rooney or not), Spain, Brazil, Chezh Rep, Korea and USA. The last two are wildcards, but fram what I've seen of them, not at all impossible.

Each time, the USA gets stronger. It's only a question of time before Brazil, Italy, England, France and the rest are steamrollered. Gotta be quick cos the Chinese are coming. :D

Hmm, not the best start for the US so far, it's gotta be said. The Czechs are damn good though, if thats any consolation.

Czech: 3 - USA 0

Goals:
Czech
9. KOLLER Jan (5')
10. ROSICKY Tomas (36')
10. ROSICKY Tomas (76')

That was terrible! No it's no consolation, we would have lost to any team playing like that. They should cut the whole back line, except Pope. All they can do is pass back to the keeper and pass to the other team.

*hugs and consolation pats* there are other games, which we hope will go better :D

I planned to skip work this morning to watch the game. I didn't even make it to halftime before I said "I may as well go to work".

That said, the US looked ok. They were definitely oversized by the Czechs, which caused problems. The shot that went off the post in the first half was heartbreaking. I think that could have given them a lot of momentum.

My gut is that Italy may underestimate the Americans. Still, I can't see the US making it past the round of 16 if they happen to sneak past the group of death.

They may underestimate the US ... but I'd say they'll be as lucky as always and win the game. I seriously doubt the US will make it past the group stage ... Italy and the Czech are way to good for that to happen. The Czech will waltz over Ghana, just like they did over the US, even without Koller. Italy might prove to be a harder opponent for them ... but to win two out of three will definitly let them move on. Same for Italy ... so the US won't have much of a chance actually.

The Czech Rep should roll Ghana...which means they would probably rest people vs. Italy if they can be assured of winning the group and avoiding Brazil in the Round of 16.

So the US needs to beat Italy and by at least two goals to keep their chances alive....If they win 1-0 and th Czech's rest vs Italia, the US would need to beat Ghana by 3 goals plus whatever Italy scores vs. the Czech's...with the reward a date vs. Brazil.

But who am I kidding? If we beat Italia on european soil I would consider the Cup a success...but they will beat no one playing as slow as they did today...

...and I agree...that shot by Claudio Reyna hits an inch to the right, it goes into the goal and ties the game at 1-1 and everything changes...wow...what if, huh? Of course, if we want to play "what if?", I'd rather talk about the German's in 2002...

With that number of ex Leeds players in the squad we can't fail.

And Brazil are gonna find it difficult to get through the group stage. (More ex-Leeds players in Oz)

Pity the Arse don't have any English players to put forward :p

So what about Cole and Campbell then????

Damn, I've no time now.

WILL return!!!!

:nana:

If you mean "put forward" as in to actually play in the squad, I have two words for you: Sol Campbell. And let's not forget Ashley Cole.

If you mean "put forward" as in play in a forward position... Sol is a kick-ass defender, but he knows how to position himself in the other team's box when needs be, and he scores his share of crucial goals (even if they sometimes get disallowed for reasons known only to the ref. )

Yeah, please do return to this - I feel decidedly out-numbered at times. I need you to cover my back!!! :p

Togo leads Korea 1:0 at the half!

Yup, and they're doing great so far. I'm rooting for them (and it doesn't have much to do with Adebayor being an Arsenal player, heh), they've had such a rough build up.

And they win the prize for coolest goal celebration so far.

:D
