France 0 - Switzerland 0

(I hate to be the one to say this Tatelou, but you sound like a sheep!)

That's the kind of scoreline that makes my heart glad. :D

Despite loving Henry... I can't get past the fact that it's the French team, and I enjoy not seeing them win. ;)

(I'm feeling wooly today. :p)

Ouch. Insult me, fine... but bring my dogs into it!? Oh my, now the gloves really are off.

(But not in this thread - it's sacred - football only! :p )

No, this is THE WORLD CUP THREAD!

Brazil are up next. Who's betting Croatia can give them a bit of grief?

Croatia is tough.

But I've been wrong so far.

Brazil 1 - Croatia 0 AT THE HALF!

Goal
Brazil
Kaka (44)

A good effort so far by Croatia.

A slightly better effort by Croatia in the second half, but the half-time score stands.

Brazil didn't seem to be putting out as much effort the second half; perhaps saving their energy for the rest of the tournament?

I personally felt that Brazil would spend the first half kicking the ball and the second half kicking ass. Either Brazil took it easy the second half or Croatia put up one hell of a fight, maybe both.

Ahhh, bless your heart. You may be an Aresnal fan, but I'm glad you've got your priorites right *grins*

I fell asleep in the second half of the brazil match, I don't think I was particularly tired, either :D

Ahh, Miss EL- you sign up on Laurens Fantasy Football every year, and wonder why you place last? YOU HAVE NOT EVEN PICKED A TEAM! :)

I did -I think *L* I'm sure I did. Might not have any players in it who're playing, mind but I'm sure I picked a team *laughing*

Well to pick a team and play your players (LOL) are very different things. Some coach you are benching even the English. LOU will not be happy! lol!

I didn't even know there was a country called Togo until today.

(Korea: 2; Togo: 1)

I personally thought the Ivory Coast was the IVORY COAST and not some Cote de Ivoire or someething. ( embarrassingly, rooting for France, I asked who is that team? :D)

So glad I'm not alone! ;)

Yeah, their coach quit over a pay dispute a day or two before the match. I put $5 on Korea and won! :nana:

I also bet on Brazil. The payout wasn't great (2.50 or so on a $5 bet), but it still paid off.

I think they're simply not the team they used to be. Ronaldo certainly isn't the player he used to be! I liked what Wrighty said about him, after the BBC coverage of the game last night. He said something like, "Speaking as a striker, I found his performance embarrassing and cringe-worthy." You tell 'em, Wrighty! :D

France aren't playing well, Brazil don't seem on form, and Germany... well. The Czechs worry me slightly, but this all bodes well for England. ;)

I have no confidence whatsoever in Brazil. They'll win their group comfortably by default, of course, but from then on, any team in their path can beat them: Czech Republic or Italy in the Last 16, almost-certainly Spain in the Quarter-Finals, whoever makes it there from the Germany-England-Argentina-Netherlands-Mexico-Portugal pack in the Semi-Finals... Brazil will only get an easy game if by some miracle they get paired up with the US, who are so scared shitless of Brazil's shirts that they will freeze up at the opening whistle. All the others are well used to playing against the Brazilians all year-round at club level.

And yes, i know I underestimate the US, but it's so easy to do it! Of the 23-player squad, the US has 12 who play in Europe: 1 in a top European club, PSV; and the rest in clubs without any real expression in international competitions today (sorry, Leeds, Everton and Fulham fans, the operative word is today ;); I'm not apologising to Reading fans, though. ). You look at a team like the Ivory Coast, who no one even considers, and you have players from Chelsea, Arsenal (2), PSV, Olympiakos, Marseille, Auxerre, PSG, and a whole bunch of other top French clubs - in a total of 22 Europe-based players.
