"Disrespect." Especially as a verb. I am hard put to find a more grating, over-used, entitlement-ridden word in the English language.

"No"

When heard from some woman I've been chatting up for the last three hours.

Signage, overage, pretty much any noun with -age stuck on the end of it tends to make me grind my teeth.

"Don't" and "stop" of course...unless they are said together.

seriously, I don't think there is a single word right now that makes me cringe. It all depends on who and how, although I can easily think of some phrases that do the trick. "Homeland Security" for example. When did it become ok for us to title a department in the US government in a fashion that elicites images of black knee-high boots and paired lightning bolts?

Ok, I changed my mind. I hate the overtones on the word "Patriot" as it is currently being used...

A concept that completely boggles my mind, Rob. :rose:

but I don't like having that word by my picture- lol, so I took it down.:)

Funny you should mention that - just this morning I rec'd the second PC on my 'Definitions' poem asking me why Hate wasn't on the list.

I have a hard time applying hate to people. Seems like such a violently hopeless word, and I generally believe people are not beyond hope. Ideas, actions, soggy green beans, injustice...I can hate those, but not people.

Words I hate: "I love you, but..."

can't
When someone says they can't do something, even though they are perfectly able, it bugs the crap out of me. My oldest says it all the time.

"Blog" what was wrong with 'journal'?
Okay, I'm with you on that one! What the hell does blog mean anyways???

any word that ends with NOT or basically breaks down to no...especially if there is no discussion about it before it is said.

(oh yes...and then there is racist/prejudice/racial....I think they are overused and misused ALOT)

"went", meaning "said". This is a pretty Brit one, I think.

Personally, I feel that the word hate is used far too often. I mean, there are many things I dislike, but there aren't many times when I can honestly say that I felt hatred. Extreme dislike perhaps, or annoyance.. but hatred.. it is a very strong word.

I've heard people say "I hate you" then be friends again 3 hours later.. I think hate lasts longer than that.

"Fffeeooouggh" deep sucked verb uttered by a builder when you ask 'Can we do this?'

"Bling" and or "Bling-Bling" another fine example of a word that never should have been born.
