why? where did the word soda come from? pop is the sound it makes when you open a can. a *pOp* sound. hence the name, pop. simple. duh.

I'll tell you what type I want when I order it, but it's always a soda.

Even when I was in Missouri it was a soda - although a lot of my relatives call it a pop or a coke (even though most of them drink Pepsi!)

Just about everyone I know in TX calls it a soda.
