I recently "upgraded" to Microsoft Word 2007 and I hate it! It is completely different from all the previous versions. For any experienced Word user, version 2007 is a jumbled pile of puzzle pieces without any "end" pieces. Everything, everything is different. It is frustration defined!

Why? Oh, why didn't I read the reviews first?

Liquor. I need liquor!

I used Word 2007 on a contract position recently. Although it was confusing at first once you get the hang of it, it's pretty cool. I have written several stories using it. Although I did find that you have to load a conversion utility to see them in Word 2003 or lower it is backward compatible. And it will save files in the older formats if you wish.

What I found really confusing was Access 2007, now that was a pile of crap if I ever saw one.

I'm using Word 2008 for Mac, the dictionary is almost impossible to get sense out of it. Gives me half a dozen useless links and rarely finds the word I've typed

But... it is much more stable, doesn't crash if I've left a doc open overnight and doesn't screw the formatting like 2004 did.

I have Word 2007 on my PC and don't have any trouble. But it's the first program I ever had so I can't compare it to anything, either.
My Mac laptop has it, too.

It's clean. It's no-nonsense. And it doesn't crash like word does. It doesn't hog memory. It just...works.

I have, not only Word 2003 on my PC currently, Word Perfect and Open Office. Where do I do most of my writing? In yWrite4, then export to RTF and load into Word to polish and correct any of my spelling errors.

I've used Open Office and I like it except for one critical deficiency - it lacks a thesaurus. If it had a thesaurus, I would use it. I like it otherwise.

I've never heard of abisource or ywrite4. Thank you both. I will look into them.

Unfortunately, I have tons of work in Word. I suppose I will have to fumble through the maze and learn where everything is in the 2007 version. But it would give me great pleasure to clobber whatever idiot at Microsoft came up with the idea to move everything around.

This has to be causing big productivity issues in corporate America.

Pull up OpenOffice 2.0. Go to the tools menu. Right under Spellcheck is Language. Click on Language and what to your wondering eyes will appear other than THESAURUS!

It wasn't just Word that was changed it was all of Office 2007 - Excel, Access, Power Point, Word - all now have the same exact, fucked up interface.

ETA: Oh, yWrite does not have a spell check as you type or grammar check as you type. That's why I export it to an RTF file. yWrite does let you define big projects and break them down into chapters and scenes.

My most valued treasure is my CD with Word 2000 in German on it. It's exactly how I want it to be, which is why I install that version whenever I need to. I'm perfectly content not ever upgrading it.

Everything else I need I can find by googling.

Huh. I just checked and I'm still on 2002.

I'm still on Word 97. It works for me.

On my so-called laptop I'm on DOS 3.3 and Wordstar 2000+ - That combination is far faster than any Windows based wordprocessor I've ever used.

Word 07 isn't bad at all once you get used to it. I had a really hard time at first, but now I don't give it a thought, and there are some features that I really like.

That's what my husband said about the Rubik's cube. I tried it for a while. Then I took that brightly colored little box and placed it behind the tire of our car and backed over it. I made sure to use the SUV, too.

Last night my husband came home just in time to catch me in the garage with my computer in my arms. He eyed me suspiciously and asked, "What are you doing?"

My eyes wandered a bit while I considered my answer. "Nothing?"

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I just do basic stuff with Word and Exel and use very little of the features and power of MS Office.
