I know what you mean. My work requires a lot of chainsaw work and so I like my chainsaws, but will say, a well made, well sharpened cross cut saw will amaze you. They just sing, and I mean that literally as they slice through logs. I was on the woodsman team in high school. It was a lot of fun and highly competitive.

In doing woodworking now, I have my power saws granted, but do a lot of woodworking by hand like all my dovetails. It takes longer to make the cuts, but is far more enjoyable.
