Women calling for the castration of men... nobody bats an eyelash.

I'm sorry, but how are these women going to make this happen? Catherine Kieu couldn't even avoid a lifetime sentence for what she did. If a bunch of women up and started castrating men we'd go back to Saudi Arabia level patriarchal smackdown just like that.

Who the hell are they gonna get to pull this off? LOL.

And where are the feminists to denounce this shit?

I didn't read the article (as I didn't want to strain my eyes reading pixelated text) except for the initial lines.

The writer is calling for the neutering of all men to ensure gender equality. Of course that makes total sense, which is why no feminist is going to come and denounce it as 'shit'. Or...
maybe like you said (even if someone were to take the article seriously) how would we pull it off?

Have the femnazis gone easy on the men this week that you felt the need to post a year old article?

:)

It's impossible for anybody to bat an eyelash - an eyelid yes, but not a single eyelash.

Now what else was LJ goin' on about - usual crap I expect - best ignore her again.

If a man wrote such an article about killing women I know you wouldn't be so casual about it.

I'm sorry I didn't read anything about killing men. And you're right I wouldn't be casual about anyone talking about killing unless it was a humour piece.

Cheer up LJ, it's been over a year since that article was written and no government has passed a bill (as far as I know) allowing for public castration of all men.

It's not that at all. It's that when these calls go out, the people who spout this nonsense will never be censured by society for their bullshit. Just let someone post some shit saying smacking your wife is okay, on the other hand, and citizens on alien worlds will hear the uproar.

Society seems to have an outrage deficit when there's talk about hurting men.

Maybe because in most parts of the world men are still considered the stronger sex (at least in physical terms) and therefore the idea of women assaulting men seems absurd to many.

Of course society is gradually changing, gender based roles are disappearing.

But I hope our sense of humour does not change so dramatically where we feel offended by the ridiculous.

Perhaps this explains why Sharon Osbourne caught no flak (outside the men's rights community, of course) for making fun of a guy who got castrated by his wife.

This was truly distasteful. I didn't see any humour in it because they were discussing a real crime and making light of it. It also appears to promote the idea that such behaviour is acceptable if done for the right reasons.

One of the ladies did comment that Sharon's comments were sexist because we wouldn't be laughing if they were talking about a man cutting off a woman's breasts.

Irony of ironies. Guess what happened to Sharon Osbourne.

I get that she was trying to be funny. I just found it distasteful because it involved a real crime and mocking the victim and offering justification to the culprit.

Go on, tell me what happened to Sharon. *waits for LJ to gloat*

I'm not gloating over this one. She recently had a double masectomy AFTER that whole Catherine Kieu thing. Karma launched a drone strike on her ass and I fear to be targeted over laughing at THAT situation.

Cancer is no fucking joke.

Karma?

The Sharon Osborne example was a poor one. She made a joke about a man who got castrated and people were offended and she was forced to issue a public apology.

There is no conspiracy to castrate all men, but as a precaution stay away from angry women wielding knives. :D

As far as I know, Poland since 2005 has accepted a law that allows their gov to chemically castrate pedophiles and serial rapists. I dunno why America hasn't jumped on that bandwagon. It's an old article anyways... I agree with passion - just stay away from FemNazis.

You gotta be shitting me. Did you see her so-called apology? She laughed the whole fucking time. That was more of a "fuck you" than an apology.

Castrating rapists in particular won't work. Rape isn't about sex. How does this myth still survive?

No I didn't see her apology.

But the point remains. Public outrage forced her to apologize (even though mostly everyone knew that she was only trying to be funny when she made those comments).

Lots and lots of reasons. The biggest being that the "facts" don't hold up to common sense and everyday experience.

If having sex with a drunk is rape (and it is) I've yet to meet and adult of either gender who isn't a virgin and also isn't a multiple rapist. I'm sure you have, and you and your wife have never had drinks prior to sex. You can try the whole "well she wasn't sloppy drunk" but we both know except with driving the legal definition of too drunk to consent is entirely arbitrary.

Add on to that all the cases both bullshit and legit of statutory rape and it gets real hazy very very quickly.

Correction: Men's rights groups screamed at her for an apology. And when she basically told them to fuck off without actually saying fuck off, her show went on and the "public" dropped the issue.

Imagine a TV guy laughing at a woman who got mutilated. His ass would be fired and if he ran the show it would be cancelled. Day 1. Day 2 he'd be dead, some male white knight would have shot him outside his apartment.

This bitch, on the other hand, is still on TV. Seriously, now.

Men's rights group are still a part of the public right? Do you think the execs who forced her to issue the apology cared who were putting the pressure on them?

There are lots of offensive people and shows that continue to air because of the TRPs they garner... what can I say, there is no accounting for taste.

There are different reasons for rape and different types of rape.

Chemical castration reduces libido. It works for some type of rapists but it won't help in the case of say a sadist or a piquerist...

Also remember that in some places the castration serves as a punishment for the crime committed and not so much as prevention against future crimes.

That's the glory of having an opinion. Excepting that I can have mine, you can have yours, and sometimes we have to have what we don't want thrown in our faces to allow everyone that right.
I, for one, am tired of the "politically correct". What happened to believing what you believe?
Sharon shouldn't of given the half-assed apology. She should of said "yeah I said it. Was it offensive, sure. But that's my job to entertain you whiners."

Castration simply does not stop forcible rape. It does not. It doesn't work. It's been tried and it doesn't work.

If having sex with a drunk is rape (and it is) I've yet to meet and adult of either gender who isn't a virgin and also isn't a multiple rapist.
We need more jails, then. Since sex with a drunk person is automatically rape.

I'm sure you have, and you and your wife have never had drinks prior to sex. You can try the whole "well she wasn't sloppy drunk" but we both know except with driving the legal definition of too drunk to consent is entirely arbitrary.

Correction: it gets hazy for the man.
