I don't know how important this is, but where I live (New York City) a gas leak is an emergency and one should call the fire department. They can be here in five minutes.

Well, I am from Mexico and the story is going to take place in Mexico.
Here too, if there is such an emergency, help should arrive soon, but unfortunately that is not always the case. There is a lot of inefficiency in those kinds of services.

Forgive me, but when I heard that part of the plot, I started to assume that it couldn't be taking place in the United States. Well, the emergency response in rural areas may not be so great, as was seen in the weirdly incompetent work of FEMA after Hurricane Helene. The local responders, including volunteers, were much better.

Is this going to be in Mexico City? I'm not sure why, but I'd like to know more about where this is taking place.

I think some of the other suggestions are good to get the enemies to lovers transitions started.
