Wolf Call (open)

I walk over to Nital, while holding Chani on one of my hips. I see the man walking away...."What the hell is he's problem? that's one strange person....he's weird when we're violent towards him, he's weird when we're trying to be nice, and he's weird towards us when we spared him hislife."

"Hey!" Nital sat Chani down and grabbed his arm. "Listen to my you asshole. I don't know what exactly happend in your past, but you'd better get some manners if you ever want friends. Believe me when I say there is no cure for this except death. You can't change what you are."

Chani walked over and looke dup at Jim. he was different like her, but unlike her he didn't have a mother who loved him like her. Maybe her mother could love him. "Stay."

"I'm sorry child but i don't stay anywhere and i certainly don't need or want friends." I then turn to Nital and Valen "and if death is the only cure then so be it but i like to be optimistic." I said continuing to walk away "By the way, ladies you both are really hot..........." I said just to give them something for them both to think about.

Chani looked at him and frowned. He seemed so mean and lonely.

"You really are souless then." Nital picked up Chani and said to Valen, "Let's go. He's not worth it."

Nital gave him one final look before heading back to the den. She cleaned Chani off and then sent her to play with the other children.

She smiled at Valen as she pulled her into their room and kissed her passionately.

Chani ran away from the other kids and went running after Jim, she grabbed him by the hand and he turned and regarded her, he then sat on one knee and pulled of his glasses, she didn't recoil from his eyes which made him wonder. he then whispered something into her ear and she ran back to the kids giggling. "God don't let her be like me please..........." I said to myself as i got up and put my glasses back on, Nital and Valen had stopped kissing and must have seen the whole thing.

Nital had always trusted her child's instincts but she wondered why she seemed to think that this renegade had any kind of heart.

If she wasn't careful Chani would continue to run off to see him. There was only one thing to do.

Nital sighed and approached Jim, "Listen I'm gonna make an offer that i'm am not entirely happy with. Come stay in our den. I can't risk Chani running of to see you."

"I doubt your clan would approve, i might kill some of them on the street sometime. But I'll live under your den, you, Valen and Chani will only know. How does that sound, i will not join any clan. But yes, I agree your daughter is something different." I said taking my shades off so Nital could look into my glowing blue eyes, she looked as if she was disgusted by them, everyone was.

Nital nodded. "You're eyes. They are different. Have they always been that way? " She reached out and touched his face. She gasped as her mind was blasted with images. Painful memeories of his family's murder.

Pulling back she looked at him ,"what are you?" She had never known a wolf like him except her daughter, but Chani had been born one of them.

It was ironic that a girl with a vampiric name became a were. She recalled the night that she was changed. Her family had been acting strange for years but the night of her birthday, they were downright bizzare.

Her father had threathen to shoot her with his hand gun, demanding that she leave. They no longer felt safe with her in their home.

"What the Hell? What are you remambling about?" Calista was hardly a shy soft-spoken girl. She was agressive and maybe that was what her father was angry about.

That was five months ago and she was soul searching, or maybe just looking for answers. She slowly made her way to Las Vegas, since it was easy to find work... at least she hoped it would be.

She walked into the casinos quietly but she seemed to attract attention. What brought the strange scent of bllod to her senses? Glancing around she still felt uneasy even though there was no visible threat.

Noticing a park that incurred a strange scent she wandered near there.. Something drew her to the place and seeing the disagreement between several that were present she stepped back not wanting to get involved. Yet something, was drawing her to glance at them... who were they? Why did she get the impression that she had somehow felt like she was home?

Calista walked calmly closer and observed the three adults. There was a great deal of anger in the air and yet she felt no threat and watched the child that seemed the midst of the disagreement. She smiled as a breif memory of her own childhood resurfaced followed by a flash of blood.. horrified she screamed aloud. No that couldn't be... she never killed.. never.. yet her mind opened the passage to her past and the truth.

((ooc: appologies for controlling James during the standoff on the bus, i just felt that it would be my only opportunity to post for a while, and that i could squeeze out some character development while i was at it. Also, i don't know if i'll be around for the next round of postings (i have to work tonight from 5-8) so i am giving permission to Angel to control the details of our meeting if i'm not around [haven't posted for half an hour or so after the next post involving my char]. thanks for understanding ---corbet))

The feeding had been good last night. The Flames had said a prayer to the spirits of the departed mortals, much in the same way that Mertshak had heard that the Natives of this land prayed for the spirits of the beasts they slew.

The hunters claimed that the wolves were mindless killing machines, that "lone wolf" James seemed to agree, and also seemed to fill out the stereotype himself: killing without reason or provocation simply because somone had hairy knuckles or sharp teeth. Those who lived with the curse new better. They were the same as the men and women they fed upon, and subject to the same temptations and vulnerabilities. But they were also subject to the same nobility and will to do good, and this was something that the hunters refused to accept. Oh the arrogance of man! To presume that simply because you were born with a brain you were somehow the most noble of the Creator's gifts, and to presume that anything that fed upon you was a demon from hell.

These thoughts were at the forefront of Mertshak's mind when he rose the next morning. His female had gone off to the desert a few nights ago, and had not returned yet. He hoped she had not met with ill deeds. He told one of the males that he had to return to town to request assistance in their quest to destroy the Tanners, and that he should not be gone long.

Then he stripped naked and changed. The transition was much smoother this time. It always was just after feeding, Mertshak had never found out why, but he assumed that that was why some weres fed constantly: to avoid the pain of the change.

He tossed a specially made backpack containing his clothes over one shoulder and loped off toward the city. There were times when he hated being what he was. This was not one of them. Runing at speeds humans could only achieve in their cars, the wind blowing through his fur, the desert sun shining down on him.

Soon enough though, he had to stop. He was nearing the city, and he could not afford to be seen. Regretfully, he slowed and ducked behind a large bush. He changed back and put on his clothes, which were nearly identical to those he wore yesterday. He walked the last two miles on human legs.

He still was not sure where the Shadow's den was, but he decided to check the park to see if Nital was there again today. Sure enough he saw her with some others...including James. Mertshak sighed, and hoped that the hunter could control himself better today than yesterday: now was not the time to fight, there were too many humans about.

The Alpha Flame walked politely up to Nital, "Good afternoon, lady of the Shadows. I trust you are well?"

James saw the A;pha flame approach and flexed his muscles but didn't redraw his crossbow from it's holster, Instead he used the Shadows unigue gift of shadow melding and vanushed into nothingness. "Sorry but I don't trust this one, he was feeding in your area last night." I said to Valen and Nital who where both surprised to see me use their gift so easily.

Nital turned her hea din james's general direction, for she coudl see him but would not give away his location, "I know that. they do it and as logn as they don't interfer with our hunts or draw too much attention to us, they shall continue to."

"Lovely" was all i said as i watched the Flame aproach. "Dosn't a bus full of people count as being to risky?"

I turned and looked at Nital, like I'm descusted that these intruders think we will actually be there friend.....I grab up Chani and turn to Nital and say, "I'll be back at the den if you need me....I suddenely don't feel good!"I then start to walk away

The Flame Alpha watched as James vanished, and wondered if he had just revealed his lineage: that was a Shadow trick. He also watched as the Shadow Alpha's lover mumbled something and shot him a look of daggers and then take a small child away, probably Nital's child, judging by the looks she cast in that direction.

Mertshak gestured toward a bench.

"Please, let us sit. You look as though you have been through much, and my stamina in this form is not what it would otherwise be," he lied. True, he was somewhat worn by his afternoon trek, but he wanted to put the mistress of this city at ease, and in this formalized ritual it was easy to be ill at ease, especially when there was an invisible were about who clearly bore him no joy.

Mertshak smiled disarmingly.

"Lets just get this over with." Nital was in no mood for games. She was surprised by Jame's ability. Maybe the one wh had change dhim had been one of her clan. She wsn't sure. Shadowalking was not something one could copy.

Katryna ~

Waking up in the college dorm of some male I fed on the last night, leaving his corpse for whomever to find. Quickly got dressed with one of his black silk shirts and black jeans. I always loved how the black clothes made me look like death, or some kind of ghost. Made most people stay away from me, considering me a freak and also in fear. Which was good because I didn't like these humans anyway, only thing that made them worth my efforts was the taste of their blood.

Sighed looking at the bloody mess in the bed, he was a good lover for the night I had to give him credit for that. At times I wish my kills were cleaner, but being a wolf, doesn't get any cleaner.
Grabbing my cloak and walking out the door into the nice warm sun. Didn't need the cloak, it just added to being a freak and kept people away all the more.

My clan had been slained in the middle of the night about a year ago, leaving me to wonder the city alone. This didn't bother me in the least, it did bother me that I was the only left of my clan. I was lucky enough to be out that night, so sadly I survived the raid of hunters who was lead to our den. Now, I'm just a wonderer.

I had my moments though, wasn't always out for a hunt. Childern brought pleasure to me, even if they are human children. Their innocence didn't allow them to hate, didn't allow them to turn their backs on me. Most my friends are children, they can hold the most intelligent of conversations sometimes. So, I headed to the park to see if any of the kids there I knew were around. They seem to make up the fact that I didn't have any of my own.

The second I came to the playground a handful of kids came running up to me screaming happily and hugging as far as their hands can reach. There was some familiar scents in the air, well scent of my kind near by. Looked around and saw a group of *people* talking off to the side, I knew two of them. Well of them, they were the leaders of the clan that ran the city. But the others I did not know. Shrugged it off for now, as long as they left me alone, all is well. Besides, I was to busy being dragged around by the hyper children.

Mertshak shrugged, "If you wish. Lady Nital, we are of different clans, true, and perhaps it has been that you have fought with others from my clan in the past, but surely you know that each pack is a seperate entity. The children of Kore hold no alliegance to anyone, not even each other. I see no reason why my pack and yours cannot be on friendly terms. This is part of the reason I am here, to seek an agreement of sorts: the pickings in the desert are somewhat slim. Surely by now you have heard of the hunt I conducted last night? This is because, as you know, the Alpha is responsible for the feeding of his or her pack. I have forbidden my own people from hunting until some sore of arrangment is reached, once it has, such a high-profile feeding will cease to be."

The Alpha Flame braced himself, that part of his mission should be gotten without too much trouble: Nital would not want a war, and she would also not want many more mass-feedings like last night's. This next part was somehwat trickier.

"The other reason I am here is to ask a boon: as you may or may not know, my people have been in a blood feud with the human clan that cursed us ever since we were made weres. My pack has tracked one offshoot of the Tanner clan to this city. We feel that a frontal assault would be both foolish and costly, and besides, we are not even sure where their den is. On behalf of my pack, I am here to ask for the assistance of the Shadows in eliminating this menace."

Mertshak bowed low, an Old World custom, but one he had never quite been able to shake. He waited for the response from the Shadow Alpha.

James melded back into the visual spectrum. "Mertshak, I will help you." He said, all eyes turning on him in surprise.
"What? I was cursed myself by Weres, Yancer here was cursed by humans, i think anything that curses another deserves death. Besides, I'm from none of your so called 'Clans' you won't be blamed for any attack I make on them." I replied to their open mouths and eyes of surprise. I then turn and walk away from the meeting. I look over at Valen, holding Nital's child Chani, I smile at the kid and continue walking away.

Mertshak raised an eyebrow at Jame's receding back; this lone wolf was certainly an enigma. First he devoted his entire life to serving the human hunters, and then he decides to help the weres destroy a very powerful family of those same hunters...

He turned back to face Nital, "Jame's valiant speech aside, even with his help I doubt this branch of the Tanner clan will be expunged. And there is still the matter of hunting rights."
