Would we be happier if all of our wishes and dreams were to come true?

Not just the little "I wish I could afford that cool pair of boots" wishes. But the really big dreams, the ones you keep to yourself or only share with people very close to you.

Would that make everything better for you? Or would you at that point move onto bigger and better dreams?

Hi there girly - whatever gave you the idea for this thread?

Would we be happier if all our wishes and dreams came true? That is an excellent question.

My opinion is yes, we would be happier but I don't think we'd ever be perfectly happy, you know? I have a feeling that struggle is part of the human condition and without it we are not complete.

I don't know if it is the achieving the actual dream, or the pursuit of it that is more rewarding. The journey or the destination. You always want to have something to look forward to, to strive and hope for. If your dreams come true, what do you have to look forward to next?

I agree with Dillinger.

It is human nature to strive for more.

I mean have you ever heard someone say, I am happy enough, I am rich enough, I am fulfilled enough. At that point why continue living?
There is always going to be something more you want. Granted if I had a ton of money I would be happier and it would give me a chance to work on some of my more intangible dreams.

*chuckle* No idea at all. ;)

I think to many people live for thier dreams. The "if only I had a better job, I'd be happy" dreams. Which in my opinion can lead to missing an awful lot of happieness that's right there in front of them.

Ice, I agree the pursuit is a HUGE part of what we find attractive and working working toward a dream, a goal is a wonderful thing.

At what point do we have to realize that that dream is not ever going to be within our grasp?

Don't you think the intangible dreams are the important ones though?

Oh definatly but sometimes you get so caught up in the everyday the mundane the tangible and materialistic. The things you need to make it through everyday that the spiritually more important ones fall by the wayside.

I think when we hit one of lifes little crossroads, most of stop to assess where we are, compared to where we want to be. Then if you are honest with yourself, you can come to the decision of wheather the dream is futile, or if it can still be achieved.

This is so sad but it is so often true. People get so wrapped up in "other" things that the dreams get lost in mix.

(Great topic hun!)

Oh is there really such a point? :) I found a quote the other day I had saved having read it well over a year ago that this made me think of:

"Dreams are renewable. No matter what our age or condition, there are still untapped possibilities with in us and new beauty waiting to be discovered." ~ Dr. Dale Turner

I think one needs to be open to changing and adapting their dreams as necessary...it isn't that a dream is ever completely outside the realm of possibilities for us...just that we have to find exactly what realm it lies in...and grab it.

It all goes to balance. That place where we can be happy with who we are and still be able to work toward where we want to be.

As well as to be able to tell which dreams are really ours, and not something that has been ingrained on us by others.

My one lone wish would be to be debt free.. To have it so that I don't owe anymore than what my monthly bills are.

That would be nice. Then I can think about bigger and better.

Those were never really ours to begin with...but often are incorporated into ours some how.

I know what you mean though. I think I have been pretty lucky never to have had that happen. I was allowed to cultivate my dreams. Sometimes I hold fast to ones I should just let go of but the eternal optimist in me believes that everything, given time, every one of my dreams could come true. Patience is all it takes. (Time is completely relative too, I don't necessarily believe it could be in this lifetime...but that is going on to an entirely different theory.)

There are a number of things I could imagine that would make me happier but I think we must find our own happiness and not let the wishes and dreams convince us that we are not happy.

We will always strive for those this that make us happy - and those wishes and dreams that are achievable. I believe though that when we strive for those that are not realistic that we actually make ourselves unhappy. Not that we shouldn't stive, but that we need to be realistic about our goals.

Here's an example... someone believes they need more money to be happy so they play the lottery every day and wrap all their dreams of happiness up in the hope of winning. Would it not be more healthy to find happiness in what we already have or to put some effort into finding other ways to make more money (a new job, returning to school, whatever it takes...)

Bad Dreams

Amazing.

May you get what you wish for!

Ever been driving down the free way and wish the car that just cut you off would get blown out of your way.

Ever wanted something soo bad you could taste it and then found out later that it was the bane of your existence.

Ever wish someone would fall in love with you, did they ever really do it? Were they happy?

Yes dreams are good to have as goals, but if I could make all of my dreams happen, this would turn into a world of misery and pain sparked by great almost painful beauty.

For don't each of us dream of both the best and the worst the world has to offer.
Don't we all contain heaven and hell?
Won't too much suggar kill you?
