lil_slave_rose said:.... it was advertised under customer service, what it really is is 'sales' the company is called JD and Associates, they sale Air purifiers and my job would be to go out set these up, and show what they do, answer questions of the customers, and take orders if they decide to buy one. i have no experience, but he said they will train, which is good. it's not at all what i was looking for.
Evil_Geoff said:Not to rain on your parade rose, but the job you are being offered is outside sales, pure and simple. It may have been advertised as an "indoor air quality technician" (like I got sucked in with) position or something else. But you will be expected to get out on your own to demo X (5, 8, 10, however many) number of units to friends, family, and anyone you can get to sit still for one during your "training period". You will have to cultivate your own sales leads from your customers to get those 15 appointments/week. If you are _lucky_ someone in the office will schedule the appointments for you from the information you provide them.
Sorry sweety, but I've been there, done that. We started training with almost 40 people. I was one of only 3 who finished the training and I had nothing to show for it except a "get out there and knock 'em dead tiger!" pat on the back. It's an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to do sales and is driven to succeed. It will abso-freaking-lutely suck for someone needing more structure in their work environment because you are TOTALLY on your own unless they've bothered changing the way these things work.
It's a great product, don't get me wrong, but I don't do sales. You may find it works very well for you and if so, best of luck. But if you don't want to be in your car driving around all day looking for people to sell stuff to, be ready to move on.
Congrats, Rose!!! I hope things continue to go well for you!!!
Evil_Geoff said:Sounds like a more "mature" operation than the one I got involved with, rose. And that you've got a good sense "radar" operating. I do hope that things go well for you!

lil_slave_rose said:as my dad always said, you can't bullshit the bullshitter, and my bullshit meter was going off yesterday at the interview and 400 times more today during trainingand they of course told us not to go home and listen to anyone trying to tell us negative things *grins* as if we're not smart enough to figure it out on our own that we're being fed a line of bullshit. like i said they seemed shady to me from the beginning when i applied for 'customer service' and now am told it's 'sales' when i went to the interview. anyway, i'm gonna ride out the training , we get pizza on Friday (haha) but i'm looking for something else..this just isn't what i want.....
brioche said:Rose,
I admire you. Once I found out that a job I got was in sales, I didn't even go to the training. But I think you can do it! And it easier to find a job when you have one, that's true.
Give this a shot, but keep your eyes open for something else as well.
Good Luck! And congratulations on having the file closed.
lil_slave_rose said:*smiles* oh please don't admire me, because i am truly thinking about not going to day 2 of training tomorrow..LOL..this job is just NOT me and i know that i cannot do it. not to mention the bullshit they spew is just too much, and the way they talked about poor people. i just don't think i can do it, and it's not like i'm getting paid for training so why waste my time, you know?
lil_slave_rose said:well, after talking to Master about it, we decided that i wouldn't go into the second day of training with that job. it's just not my kind of job, and the company is shady as hell. i hate feeling like i've failed at something once again, but i know that job just wasn't what was best for me. you pay for your own gas, they told us at the interview that they would only send in a 30 mile radius of the town i live in, in training yesterday they tell us it's a 30-65 mile radius. like i said you pay for you own gas, save your receipts and write it off on your taxes. you only get the 20.00 for each appt. if the people are 'qualified' to even get a demo of the product if not, then you're out that 20.00. to make them qualified basically they have to have a GREAT paying job and good credit because it's all financed. when i asked how much the product costs (3 times i asked) the trainer wouldn't tell me, he kept saying, we'll get to that. the second time he said 'it's affordable' affordable for who?? lol
not to mention the people's homes we are going into believe that they have won something, not that i'm going to sale them something, atleast that's what i've heard. *shrugs* i'm going job hunting today. there is a Hotel here that is hiring for a desk clerk they pay 8.00 an hour..that's much more ME *smiles* thanks again everyone!

sometimes though it's hard to deal with feeling like a failure because i didn't take that step, i felt like i just 'gave up' without really giving it a shot. *shrugs* i also think i beat myself up too much
