I take it kissing  and making up are definitely out of the picture? And here I brought the mistletoe.... sigh... :(

Most often kissing is a big part of the picture round here, but accusing us of cheating isn't really something I want to kiss and make up about.

I can make up...but some willingness to take back hard flung accusations will be necessary...I'm about done with this topic anyway

SJ can vouch for me here...I'm a pretty soft hearted guy really. But notice there has been no backing off of the cheating accusations? Scowries opinion has not changed there...

I'll even read his story...and give an honest opinion. But not when I am pissed off...It would not be an honest evaluation then.

As for the mistletoe? well, I'm not pissed off at everybody...

...just hold it at your belly button for awhile and I'll prove it...

I'm sorry, but I felt you suggested exactly that. You just suggested that the coin used was goodwill and vote exchange rather then financial gain. Barter is still trade.

You may not do this... but I believe there are people who do... and in fact I've talked to other authors who have been approached by such voting "rings"... you vote for me, I'll vote for you, and let's vote down the higher stories so ours will be better... I have not been approached myself, maybe someone else has... I know of one instance (and no, of course I won't name names) but I'm sure if there is one, there are many... I doubt many would be willing to say it out loud... <shrug>

And I don't even know if they "work" really... someone talked about the law of averages, and I think it probably DOES average out, ultimately, somehow...

I don't doubt your integrity, Bel, or Cloudy, or SJ (or anyone else :)) and I'm not maligning this support thread as a whole... but like with anything, you can get a few bad seeds and the whole damned apple goes...

My defense of Scouries was not his stance, per se, but the kernels of truth is his message... the system is quite flawed, and it unwittingly creates something it needn't... a place where "bad seeds" can flourish, if they want to... and they are, probably people you might not even suspect <shrug> Isn't that the way it always is, somehow?

I know I would like to see some changes in the way things are done... it certainly DOES sour authors toward contests as it is... and if you want more authors to enter, more consistently, than perhaps it is something that management might consider, and whoever moderates here (does anyone? Og?) might bring to management's attention...

I, for one, doubt I will enter another contest.

I'm sorry to hear that, truly. I enjoy the contests, not so much for the chance of winning, but because of the spirit of it. I've also added alot of new readers from contest entries.

I agree that there are flaws with voting. That's true not just in contests, though. But honestly, this is a free site and they're willing to put my stories on the net so people can read them! Anything beyond that is truly just the icing on the cake.
And I agree that there is vote swapping. My problem is just in who he pointed to for doing that. Because it's not Cloudy, or most of the rest of us either. There have been stories (not in this contest) written by friends of mine that I didn't vote on because I didn't think it would be right to vote higher than was deserved simply because they were my friend. There are honest folks here, and it's sad that those few bad apples are becomind so much of the focus.

I also want to say that in browsing through the top lists over the last weeks, there's one story (and I'm not naming because I don't want to put a target on it for trolls) that has been consistently high on its list and sitting at a very consistent high score. And it's not from cheating that this happened; it's because this writer is a talented author who deserves the win (and their past wins as well).

Dang it, another AH "in-crowd" I've missed out on.

I'd miss your entries and presence, but if the pain created by worries about procedures, voting "rings", and results outweighs any possible gain that might come from entering, then that might not be a bad idea.

Odds are Laurel and Manu aren't going to tinker much with the contest format or the site's scoring system. That being the case, do what makes you feel best.

Rumple Foreskin

This whole situation is insane, all of it. Wild horses couldn't drag me away from participating in another contest. I'm already thinking of plot lines for Valentine's.

Ah, another addict. Welcome to our little cult... I mean, club. ;)

I've written a GREAT Superbowl Party orgy I can't wait to submit.

The writing is fun, sure I'd love a prize but the nuts I get from my writing are prizes too. lol

Speaking of contests, did anyone notice the new contest next year? The "How-to" contest? I can't wait for that one! :nana: It's the non-porn contests where I stand a chance!

I'm going to be a total washout, if that's the case. I don't have the patience to read any kind of manual (except for sex), and I'm supposed to write one? No way... :D

You can write a sex how-to. Subsarah has a great anal sex how to. :)

I used all my good how to ideas for the survivor contest this year. If I participate next year, I have no idea what I'll write about.

*head spinning* But what on earth am I going to write about? I'm really going to have to dig deep to find something that I know how to do very well.

I doubt that anyone would want to read a How-To of Greek.

Hey, it's all Greek to me.

:D

Seriously, it's a lot easier than it looks. Where do you think English stole the majority of its words from? Everybody already speaks Greek on an everyday basis.

Yeah, but first you're going to have to teach how to roll the "R" :p which isn't done in english.

Here is an idea....

how to order greek food.

Seriously common dishes you'd find, whats in them and what they taste link.

Heck, I've already got my Valentine's feast half-baked. (Wait a minute - that didn't come out quite right.)

Selena, I hope you reconsider, but I also agree with Rumple's wise words, which are to make whatever choice makes you the happiest.

I think I'd do better writing a suggested itinerary for tourists. At least that way I wouldn't risk blowing up like a balloon. ;)

I'll probably throw in some food & restaurant recommendations as well as the sightseeing hotspots of Athens as well as Salonika (where I am), but I don't want to touch baklava with a hundred-foot pole. It's chock full of sugar and honey, butter and oil...together! And don't get me started on gyros...

What's wrong with gyros? They have the four food groups.
