Winter Holiday Support Thread

My first holiday story submission went up over night....

It is a non-erotic true story....
I thought whoever was reading it and the author's notes would figure that out.... anyway.... got a lovely anon public comment.... thought everyone would just roll their eyes over

what a manipulator!

lets see, how can he tear her heart? ah, by making her guilty of his sucide!
never mind that he has been unfaithful,
never mind that college has come between them, that HE was held back,
never mind that she is going on with her life.

a bit of therapy and she would she it in his note, relieving her of guilt

This contest was worth it for me..... My score may be the lowest ever for me... holding at 3.15 now.. but the feedback didn't make me run for the fox hole.

Even the negative feedback gives me the warm fuzzies! Got one in my E mail.. from someone I don't know....it reads like this:

"I consider myself a fan of yours" (HOT DAMN I HAVE AT LEAST ONE FAN) "but I didn't like this story at all. It made me feal emotions that were not happy."

OH BOY.. SHE MAY NOT HAVE LIKED IT.. BUT SHE FELT IT!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah.. and still not a single death threat! I must be livin right!

My first holiday story submission went up over night....

Mine too!

Ok, well my ONLY... because at almost 16,000 words and 5 lit pages, I'm all written out, I think! :)

Feedback welcome... votes & PCs, too, of course...

Selenakittyn's story......

Christmas Stalking marks a breakthrough for this writer. Everything I've previously read by her has been rewarding, including some indescribably beautiful poems- but this is exceptional. Superbly drawn characters, a remarkable plot, and believable erotic elements combine to make one hell of a story. Thanks for sharing, Selenakittyn, this one's a winner!

Sack

I know it's early, but I keep losing votes and points! Add that in to my view count not changing in the last twelve hours? This is strange unless someone keeps duplicate voting, or what?

I know about troll sweeps, but then you usually lose votes and gain point average.. I haven't seen it lose votes and lose point average. Hi votes are leaving.
Oh well

Sometimes it takes time for them to catch up to each other...

but if your losing scores... at times... its because someone double voted

like I said Hugo.... just breathe

Gosh, I leave Lit for a few weeks, get back in time to see who won the Halloween contest, and now the winter one has already started?! Wow, things move fast here!

I didn't write it to win.... I wrote it.... so that I could take the parts of me that were missing him.... and encase them in a pretty box...... but out of my heart.... so that it doesnt bleed and break so darned much
*wipes both of their tears gently*

How Long is Too Long?

I was discussing my story with my BF last night and he wondered out loud if there's such a thing as a story that's "too long" and whether I'd be disqualified if I went above a few thousand words.

It's premature to worry about this since I still have some work to do, but has anyone here submitted a story only to have it rejected because it was too wordy?

I have never heard of a story being rejected for being too long. I believe the story that won the Halloween contest was over 10,000 words long, and I know from reading it that it was spellbinding. Going above "a few thousand words" is no big deal. If it runs over two Lit. pages, it might be passed up by some casual readers and end up with fewer votes than it might have gotten, but you should get more than enough anyhow. :)

I hope not! Mine is 16,000 words and 5 lit pages! Abyss, which won the Halloween contest, was 6 lit pages... must have been more words that 10,000! (unless he was using realllllly long ones <grin>)

Keep writing, Aurora... the story won't end until it needs to, anyway... :)

Sometimes I think long stories have a major advantage.... If you don't really really like the story... about 3 lit pages is enough to make you turn away.... you have to love it to stay for 5 or 6.... If ya loved it enough to stick it out.. you vote a 5....lol

Fewer votes.. higher score.

I think this is generally true... although I wonder about contest entries? Because readership seems different... so many people read them that wouldn't normally read them? (And considering my vote count right now, it's damned high just on, what, day 3? kind of blows the theory out of the water... hence my explanation at exception!) :)

Strangely on my part.. both number of votes and number of views are way down over what I usually write. And my scores seem something like a yo-yo.

Thanks a lot, guys. The story will finish when it's time for it to finish, not before. ;)

Sometimes I think stories have a life of their own. They MUST be given their life. To truncate a story just to be under 5,000 words .. or 2 lit pages or whatever... is like giving the story a premature heart attack.

It is just as bad to truncate a worthy story as it is to add flowery words just to make a story that SHOULD be short meet a 5,000 word minimum.

It's all in the story.... and it has a life of it's own.

Each night, Laurel and/or Manu scrape the troll votes from my submission. Each day, the trolls again bomb me. My scores also go up and down like the yo-yo you reference.
