Lilith listened to Gabriel and Micheal. She bit back her retort to Gabriel, she didn't want to let this all get to her, even though if the table was any indication, it already had. She shook her head, pulling her hand back and examinign the blood that came from the now reopened cuts.

"Micheal's right, the things we need are here, we have finshing line, we can set a perimeter. I've seen the money Amy had, we can either buy more wepons or we can buy surveilence equiptment. I will not be caged again.I won't let it happen to you all, I can't. I'm sorry..." she managed on the verge of tears before turning and rushing from the house, feeling as if her lungs would explode. As she run by the lake her lungs burned, as if breathing was not something she needed right now ontop of everything.

She was the strong one, she was supposed to be the one who protected everyone. And in her one moment she had had for herself was when Chroma came, was when she had let her gaurd down for the first time since escaping. She collapsed on the sand beside a large rock sheilding her from the veiw of the house. And for the first time in a long time, Lilith sobbed, her salty tears stinging the forgotten cuts on her hands as she folded her knees up to her chest and closed her raven wings around herself.

Doc sat quietly, daydreaming, thinking of the lower levels of The School, of those "down there." He was thinking too much. "I'm thinking too much," he thought. He started to zone out, not really thinking anymore, just being, enjoying the absolute certainty that Chroma would do the right thing, that soon Michael would be back . . .

that soon Amy would be back . . . .

that soon Gabriel would be back . . . . .

that soon Lilith would be . . . . . .
. . . . and with that last feeling in his mind, he was gone. He was a little confused, but more bemused, curious about what was going on. He was no longer in his body, that much he knew. Another person might have freaked out, tried to move and pulled their mind back to their body. But Doc was not another person. He was Doc. And he simply waited, as he always did, patient, and scheming.

Slowly, something came into his mind. It was not exactly that he was seeing; no, he was more perceiving. And it was quite fuzzy, but slowly becoming clearer. He was inside a house. There was a sudden, very loud noise, a hand crashing down on a table. His hand. No, scratch that. The hand of the person through whom he was perceiving. He could see the hand. He could see the table. He could see the outlines of a few people, but could not make them out. And other than the loud sound, he heard only muted voices, as though he had cotton in his ears. He was slowly becoming aware of more, and then, just as whomever he was "seeing" through seemed to realize they were being seen through, or at least that someone was sharing their perceptions, he realized he was feeling the movement of wings on his back.

"Wings," he said quietly, but with surprise.
He was suddenly crashing across time, or space, or thought, or energy, or something. He slammed back into his body, which moved visibly in the chair (though of course there was no one there to see it; he was, always, alone). He immediately realized, however, that he could not move. He was temporarily paralyzed. But he didn't mind. He was pretty sure he had just been in Lilith's mind. And for that, he could sit quietly for a very, very long time.

Uriel gave Michael his due as the injured man made his arguments. Michael was their best fighter under most circumstances - but these were not most circumstances. Michael was injured now - Uriel wouldn't follow his lead.

Gabriel or Lilith were the oldest and strongest now. Lilith wanted to stay as well, and Uriel could almost imagine the last stand as she described it. But Gabriel looked convinced. And Gabriel would pull Amy with him. And Uriel would follow - for now their actions were clearer. Get away, escape and then decide what to do.

So long as Gabriel held firm, at least.

"Right then. If we're staying, let go buy weapons." Gabriel wasn't happy, but he wasn't going to let the family be split up. He also wasn't about to let the weaker members get hurt though. He turned to Amy, sorry for all of the drama and yelling. He was suprised she hadn't had another episode. He was suprised he hadn't had an episode, if it came to that."Uh Amy, how much money do you have?"

OCC: Sorry Uriel, but I didn't see Gabriel escaping and leaving the other two to fight alone. He may try to ditch them in town at a motel or something, but we will see how that goes.

."Uh Amy, how much money do you have?"

Amy looked up at Gabriel and shrugged. She really didn't understand what he was asking but signed purse.

That was where all but one franklin face was, she knew that there was six there and seven if she counted the one she gave Gabriel in his room.

Are you asking me to make them again? She thought as she held out her hand for the one she gave him earlier.

Gabriel wasn't sure what she wanted for a moment, then it clicked. He turned a bit red, then reached down inside his swim trunks and produced the bill. He wasn't sure what she wanted it for, but it was really her's. He already knew that he wasn't leaving Amy here alone. He would head into town for supplies, while the others boarded up the windows and such. A problem presented itself. There was a waiting period on guns and none of them really were in the system, or if they were they didn't want to see if it flagged them. He had a few ideas about that as well.

Amy sat the bill on the table and stared at it, focusing on the face and wishing that she had ten more just like it in Gabriel's pocket.

Her gem started to glow on her forehead the pain was shooting thru the skull. Amy cried out in severe pain and brought her hands to her temples as she dropped to the floor holding her head.

Deep inside she felt that surge of flames dance over her skin. Then it happened, the ten $100 bills formed in Gabriel's pocket only after disappearing from Dr James' wallet from his coat pocket in the closet.

Amy was gasping for air as the last bill solidified. She grabbed her chest as her mind swirled in dark colors. She was going to pass out again and she knew why this time. Too bad she missed the stunned look on Gabriel's face as one of the bill's was sticking out for him to notice.

"Shit!" Gabriel caught Amy as she fell. Look, I am taking Amy into town and finding her a motel for the night. I'm not going to let her stay here to die. If the rest of you want too, then I will stand with you, but not if she's going to get hurt." He was totally stunned over the money, so said nothing. Gabriel managed to grab all of the money in plain site, without dropping the unconscious Amy, then stuffed it into his swim trunks. He really needed to get a wallet.

He adjusted Amy in his arms, trying not to notice how warm and soft her body was against his chest. "Look Uriel, you can stay here and help board up windows, or come with me and get left at the motel with Amy. I love Lilith, but and I'll die with her if I have too, but I'll be damned if I will let her get Amy killed." He turned his head toward Michael. "You better go see if she's O.K. Tell her I'll be back with some weapons, or at least as many as I can get for a bit over a thousand bucks."

He walked toward the front door, not looking to see if Uriel was following him. He had some troubles at the front door, but managed to get it opened. The morning sun was just moving over the tops of the pines. It was glorious. It was so hard to believe, out in the warm sun, that their little world was falling apart around him.

Had Amy been awake she would have been furious with Gabriel forcing her to be away from the situation.

Then the other small factors that surrounded Amy, her powers. It seemed like they just manifested. However Amy stopped growing any taller and started to fully mature other ways.

There was so much that the others didn't know about Amy. Why she remained so short was a concern as it made her appear child-like. Someone too young to handle the affairs of adults, thus she was always protected by the bigger and stronger.

Little did they know but the prospect of the gemstone at her forehead was to channel her mental abilities. Amy had shown high physic attributes even before Dr. James found her but they were wild and unmonitered.

Had the good doctor checked better he would have discovered that Amy's parents were very potent in fertility. Amy though seeming immature was a natural breeder and like most creatures as sunshine brings life in bloom reflecting at the season spring. Amy was also in full bloom and that as well could be hazardess

OCC: I posted Gabriel doing what seemed natural, but he isn't in the car yet. There is time to wake up if you wish, or time for someone else to come after them. That's why I did not post him driving away.

Uriel sat a long time considering his options. Then, with a sorrowful look at Michael he stood and followed Gabriel out. How could he explain himself to them? Even if he could talk it would have been impossible! They were his family and he found that he did love them - but he wasn't going back to the cages. Not for anyone and certainly not for a dream.

The house was a deathtrap - it had been a wonderful place and he treasured his memory of it, but it was old, it was wooden and it was known. Their strength had always been in staying hidden - he couldn't believe that they could take on the world and win.

Gabriel had belted Amy into the back of the car and Uriel, who hadn't even a change of clothes to his name and no other possessions to collect, grabbed his overcoat to cover his wings and simply slid into the front passenger seat.

Amy awoke with a start and became nervous to such a point that she was sweating. Her hands went straight for the belt to loosen it, the memories of the tables and the needles and tubes were resurfacing once more. Fear was perfuming the back seat and getting stronger as the seconds ticked by.

Amy quickly signed Why

"You better go see if she's O.K. Tell her I'll be back with some weapons, or at least as many as I can get for a bit over a thousand bucks."

Michael nodded. "Yeah, be careful. And hurry back, we can't be seperated too long." Gabriel, Amy, and Uriel headed towards the car, while Michael headed towards the lake. He kept his eye on the horizon. His gaze fell over the lake, but he was completely aware that he wasn't sure where Chroma had gone. For all he knew he could be in the trees waiting for them.

Michael walked quickly when Lilith came into his field of vision. She lay on the rocks, her black wings wrapped around her body. His shoes from the previous nights swim still sat on the log not far from her. Michael called out softly so as not to startle her "Lilith. Lili my love. Whats wrong?". Kneeling beside her her gently stroked her soft feathers.

He could hear her sobbing beneath her wings. His own wings outstretched to block the sun. He didn't want her blinded when she opened her eyes. His wing span was almost twice his size. His dark wings cast a giant shadow over her. His bandaged still wrapped around his ribs. His lip slightly puffy from the backhand that Chroma had hit him with.

"Come here Lili." Michael outstretched his arms wanting to give her a giant hug.

Lilith was lost in her own thoughts as she sat there trying to stop her sobbing. She heard him walk up, heard his soft kind words. Her wings lowered slightly and she reached out for him, sliding gently into his arms, not wanting to hurt him. "I let them down Micheal, I promised I would take care of them I promised I would keep us safe and I failed Micheal, I failed." she sobbed in his ear, her wings settling back on her back.

"I should have been more careful, I should have watched for him." she said softly, feeling as if she had no more tears left in her. She pulled back slightly looking into his eyes. "Micheal, he hurt you," she breathed, as if seeing his swollen lip for the first time as she caressed the side of his face.

Gabriel was driving so Uriel twisted around to face the back seat. He laid a finger along his lips to hush the girl and tugged at his own seat belt mounting, to show that he too was secured.

He smiled - trying to reassure the girl that the belt was for her own good.

Chroma woke in the morning. His cage was already open. He dropped from his perch and walked outside. He stretched his wings and muscles. he felt very good. He stopped in the mirror, No marks. He always healed well. Moments later he had maps of the surrounding areas. woods. Lots of woods. Few paths only one highway. If they flew they'd be seen together, but only one road. Chroma thought quickly about plans. He needed coffee. there was none in the school. Doc didn't drink it. said something about un-needed boosts, Chroma felt sluggish without it.

Chroma put on his Shirt and Pants. It was warm enough for sandals so he wore them. far too hot for this but he wrapped his wings around his body, and draped the coat over them. He added his hat and was out for coffee.

It was too hot. Chroma was sweating quickly. he got to the starbucks he normally went to. Trina was working today. She was cute and he scared her. He could tell. The way those cute little braids twicthed on her head. Or her eyes widened a little. How she dropped his change instead of giving it to him. Her tight lipped smile. Chroma liked it this way.

"What can I get you this morning, sir?" trina asked with a forced courtesy.

"You wouldn't happen to have any french roast on now would you?" Chroma asked as he scanned the counter. In the jacket with his wings he must have seemed four feet wide. and three hundred pounds. The other customers gave the pale man a wide berth as he scanned the coffees. "No you never I see a kodiak blend, some chocolate express, a decaf, Some strange maHn-Duh-Hel whatever. French. Dark coffee. You never have it."

"Please just order something"

"Fine whatever large is in this place, and 6 almond biscotti. I'll drink the kodiak blend. whatever that is."

Chroma paid and left a sizable tip, he usually did. He sat at one of the booths eyeing the girl. And her braid. A pendulous thing swaying with the way her head moved. Trina felt uncomfortable he could tell but his focus never changed. he thought of how easy it would be to pull that braid. To use it swing it back and forth. How It would be in his hand with him crushing her close. Somewhere in the sky. No. She was dirt, crawling on the ground. Chroma finished his coffee and left.

He planned as he ate on his way back. He would make little cahces so he could sleep. He'd call hunter friends and ask them if he could use their duck blinds to sleep while he was out in the bush. And he'd fly the highway looking for them. The little ones would run. And he would deal with them there. the little things were afraid of him. All the little things were.

Chroma packed and leapt to the air on his way to bring back the others.

Doc Jake sat in his office, working and recuperating from his little "experience." He chuckled quietly but grimly. System of a Down played in the background. "I would be nowhere without my music," Doc thought. He took a second to listen, noting how well the lyrics seemed to fit. He wondered if Lilith knew the song . . .

"My pupils dance,
Lost in a trance,
Your sacred silence,
Losing all violence,

Stars in their place,
Mirror your face,
I have to find you,
I need to seek my inner vision,
Inner vision, inner vision."
"My Inner vision," thought Doc. "That is what I'm seeking. So perfect."

And then it occurred to him: "I wonder if she knows."

He would be happy if she did realize he was there, and he would be happy if she didn't. In any event, he would be happy. His recent shock aside -- that memory of his past love, of when he still could love -- things were going rather swimmingly. He wondered how Chroma was doing with his hunt, and then turned back to his work, reviewing plans for the complete rebuilding of The School.

Amy didn't like the seat belt, she didn't like moving in the car either. She started to whimper in the back seat then she felt something. A sense of hoovering that was surrounding her she felt her wings wriggle.

Music was playing and many faces were solemn, Amy knew that someone died, she looked around and began crying for her parents but they weren't there only him. He was her family now he was her Mother's brother James.

She never understood how he didn't have any family pictures. She never understood why he never spoke to her in her language. Only music surrounded him. Loud crashing sounds that had thumping beats that echoed in her mind.

"MOMMMMMMMMMAAAA" Amy screamed that so many times after se first arrived and she screamed it again when she had her first vision of death. Then she was quiet

But this time she was sharing the same scream with Dr. James as her fear grew from the fast movement. Her painful scream was mentally tearing at the Dr's brain.

Ariel recoiled as if Amy was a rattlesnake or had suddenly burst into flame. He looked across at Gabriel as if to say "It wasn't me!" but despite the other man's concern, it was clear that he'd seen such episodes before.

Uriel shucked off the seatbelt and slithered through the gap between the front seats, wrapping his arms around the thrashing Amy and trying to hug her into sensibility. He stroked her hair, holding her, as she twisted and jerked and yelled.

Amy stared at Uriel, slightly confused by his closeness and yet wass he able to read her?

Once more tears began to fall from her lavendar eyes. Home me go home

Lilith dark wings lowered slightly, her arms outstretched as she slid gently into his arms. Gently Michael stroked her hair as he let her speak. Letting her sob against his shoulder while she returned her wings to their folded posistion behind her. "You haven't failed Lilith. We are still safe, just more on our guard now because of Chroma. But you haven't let them down. We all should have been more careful. We have all been laxidasical in our time here, and this is more of a wakeup call for us."

Michael wrapped his arms around her comfortably. His wings extending and wrapping around them both, blocking the direct sunlight. Placing a soft kiss to her forehead, a slight tingle felt from his swollen lip as he did. "He caught me by surprise. We will be ready next time." They looked into each others eyes and held each others gaze for a while.

LIlith shook her head, he was trying to make her feel better. "But I promised I would keep us safe, I promised everyone that day I burned the school down, I promised myself. I was too busy playing happy families as Chroma would call it," she said pulling away, her head down.

"I don't regret anything I did with you Micheal, but I let my gaurd down, and the person I love the most got hurt," she breathed looking up at him, her hand caressing his face gently.

Intelligence and savagery

Chroma soared through the air till he came to a hunting lodge. He wa pretty sure no-one knew where this was. He tapped the collar on his neck, to make sure it functioned. he opened the duffel he had and took out several thousand dollars, a CB radio, and a few sheets of paper. he put a map up on the wall. A box came out with fold tools. A hacksaw, a hatchet, a skinning knife, and boning knife. A mess kit. Meat hooks. His rifle he layed down on the ground. he turned on a cellphone and dilaed a number letting it ring twice then leaving his name.

He began feverishly to write on the pages of paper. mad scribbles poured forth from the pen. occasionally a sheet would be tossed to the side and another made. All in all he was there ten minutes before his phone rang again.

"Hello, I need information. About people who will appear at any motel or hotel along route 9. Uh huh. from Pike Peak all the way over till the state line. yeah. 2 K. Done"

Chroma portioned $2000 and left it in a suitcase. He set up pins along the map for every rest point and hotel/motel along the route. then campsites in a different color. finally trail ditches and blinds he knew of in a third.

Half an hour had passed. Chroma ate peanut butter crackers. Sausage.

Chroma flew. he loved the scenery here. he loved the freedom to dive like the birds and spin and swoop. He didn't know if any of the other children could swoop. he felw lazily drifting on currents and thermals. till he saw a deer. Chroma smiled, a viscious idea played forward in his mind.

It was a large buck. Maybe 600 pounds. with a full set of horns. ironic that those very protecting antlers were what chroma used on his dive to break it's neck. It sputtered jerking like some marionette twisted but it fell. Chroma flew back to the lodge to grab tools. It took almost an hour to fully seperate the head and haunches. But Chroma flew everything back. He let the Haunches drip in the meat cabin. The head he had special plans for.

An odd tingling, like an itch between his ears suddenly hit Uriel as Amy stared at him, her lambent eyes shining with tears.

He wasn't sure what it was, but it was obvious that it was no attack, as it never increased in magnitude, simply persisting and changing. It was, he suddenly realised, a thought that had been placed there by someone else, in a part of his brain that he wasn't used to using.

Uriel stopped dead in his attempts to calm Amy as the implications surged through him. He couldn't understand her, and he had no idea how to talk back in this way, but he could hear!

He sat quietly on the rear seat next to Amy and thought.

Amy stared out the window as the car moved on. She wondered if she would see Michael and Lilith again as she stared at the moving trees. Deep inside of her being she was anxious but scared. Finally she became sleepy from the moving dots and closed her eyes and fell asleep.
