Wing Commander

"I haven't the foggiest."

He then stood there and watched as Admiral Tolwyn went to a view wall and pushed the button to activate it. What came up on the screen could be called nothing short of complete destruction. There were parts of ships floating in space and all of them were Confed ships.

"We face a grave situation. We are being decimated by this new race and as you can see they are doing a good job of it and this was taken only an hour ago."

"What sector of what galaxy, sir?" asked Dima, curious to know. After all, Towlyn could be talking about the infamous "Dark Forces", or he could be talking about the also infamous "Pig-screwers".

"It was in the Loconda sector. It was over before our ships knew what was happening. We are going there now at top speed and see if we can pick up a trail but I hope that I am not too late."

Blair looked at Flint and saw the look on her face. Loconda was her home and she was hoping that it hadn't been destroyed.

"Damn", said Dima, not pityingly, because he didn't know. "Laconda was home to a middle-class fleet. Their Admiral was shit, but the fleet was pretty good. Admiral Larash, if I remember correctly. Saud to once have been a murderer on Earth", he said, looking up, trying to get all the facts.

"I had heard that myself. But sir, how many of the enemy ships were destroyed?" one of the pilots from the Crusaders said.

"None."

That caused a murmur to go through the group like wildfire. If not of the enemy fleet had been destroyed by the fleet at Loconda how were they, one carrier going to fight them and hope to get out of it alive.

The death-dealers and Dima remained silent, no doubt gnawing at them. They had lost their old lives at Earth. They were ruthless killing machines. None of them had any family left at all. Most had no money or home back on Earth. Therefore, as the Crusaders murmured and worried, the Death-dealers stood empathic, waiting for the mission briefing.

Admiral Tolwyn stood there for a second before he cleared his throat which caused the Crusaders to stop talking and look at him. As soon as they had he said, "Now that you have stopped talking I can continue. We are going to go to the Loconda system and try to find out where the Kilrathi and their allies are going next and then try to stop them."

That caused another murmur which Blair stopped by stepping forward and saying, "We will do what we can Admiral."

"Good, that is all that I ask of your two squadrons," Admiral Tolwyn said, looking from Blair to Dima.

"What the hell do we have to lose?" asked Dima. "The FBI already made sure that we lost everything on Earth", muttered Dima under his breath.

With that Admiral Tolwyn dismissed the two squadrons and told them to go straight to their hangar bay and take the new fighters out for a flight so that they could get used to the controls. After they saluted the Crusaders practically ran out of the briefing room to the hangar bay where they had landed and walked to the fighters that had their name below the cockpits, got in and started up the engines- listening to the deep growl like sound when they started.

Dima switched to his comlink. "Purrs like a kitten", he said to Blair and the others. he soon began to get replys saying the same thing.

Blair looked out into space and said, "Okay everyone, let's see what these new babies can do."

He pushed the throttle lever forward and before he knew it was flying out of the hangar and into space. He looked around and saw that the others were following close behind him. He then heard Maniac shout out, "Whoa baby.... I love this!"

"Okay boys and girls, lets have some fun."

With that the two squadrons broke up and began seeing what their new fighters could do.

Dima tried out the light weapons first. "Hey, boys and girls, these babies got chainguns", he shouted, bringing up a chorus of cheers. Chainguns would simply penetrate a fighter's force field, as the field could only stop energy weapons. Then he tried out his lasers and blasted a medium sized ateroid into space dust. He fired a few of the missiles, admiring the great weapons.

"Okay Crusaders, break up into two groups and lets begin a mock battle. I want to see what these babies are like in a fight."

With those orders the Crusaders split up and began to fly after each other, trying to get a feel for the new fighters. As Blair went into a bank to avoid Maniac's powered down laser fire he said, "Oh, this baby is absolutely perfect. By the way that it handles it will fly rings around anything that we have in existence."

"Try out the ship's weaponry", Dima ordered. And strangely, the captain complied. Then it hit Dima. Since they were the best, they had more importance than anyone else on this ship. Interestingly, unlike other carriers, this one was swapped with weapons. 50 missile rocket launchers began to emerge, along with triple laser cannons and 2 heavy laser cannons. The almost almighty f4 turrets, 4 cannons in one, appeared all over the ship. Then, long black shafts in the back of the ship began to rise up. Dima recognized them as giant artillery pieces. These things looked like they could take out an Imperial Class battles ship with one shell. "Fire!" shouted Dima. A huge barrage of weapons flew towards an asteroid field, explosions rippling through the air. When the lasers and shells and rockets connected with the field, huge explosions bathed everything around in light. Huge asteroids were obliterated easily.

When the shockwaves of the explosions shook his fighter Blair called a halt to the excercise and looked over at the carrier which now looked more like a battleship. His eyes went wide when he saw the weapons and said, "What is that ship, a carrier or a battleship?"

"I think it's both", came a few replies from both squads. "Remind me to shake that engineer's hand who did this", admired Dima.

"When we find him then I will do just that," Blair said as he flew over the ship, looking at the weapons that bristled over every inch of it. This new ship had to be the best in the fleet and he was sure that it would be needed in the upcoming battle.

"Dima, seeming you know about these new fighters how do we get them to change into their other forms."

"First of all, see that big green button and see that big red button? Well, don't push the green one and push the red one. The red one activates the transformation, and the green one self-destructs it", informed Dima. And as to demonstrate, he pressed the red. His jet quickly folded out. Two arms came out instead of wings, the wings compressed into jet packs, legs grew out of the turbo boosters, and the cockpit folded up to make a head. All in all, it looked like a gundam.

Blair pushed the red button as he was told to and in under a minute was looking out into space but in a different position than he had before. He looked down at the controls and pushed them forward, instantly getting a strange feel as he saw the ship fly past him at a different angle. Blair stopped the gundam and maneuvered it around then said, "It is going to take a lot to get used to this."

"Hell, yes", said one of the Crusaders. Dima started messing around with the controls and suddenly had two very large hainguns in his hands. They suddenly began to fire off uncontrollably until Dima hit another button and instead got a large laser sword.

Blair started tapping commands into the computer and all of a sudden a large machine gun appeared in his hands. He shouted out when it appeared and was about to fire at one of the asteroids but before he could Admiral Tolwyn's voice came over the comm, "Enough play time. We have just received a distress call from the Alti system and as soon as you land in you hangar bay then we can head there."

"Okay, you heard the man Crusaders. Time for us to head back in."

Blair pushed the red button again and watched as the view changed again to that of a fighter. This is going to take some getting used to he thought as he headed towards The Banisher.

"Fighter? I'm going back in style!" shouted Dima, not bothering to transform. He flew forward, quicker than any of the fighters, and did a perfect roll. He went into a spiral and straightened himself just in time to make it into the hangar.

As soon as Blair landed he looked back to see Dima's gundam fly into the hangar, doing a perfect roll before landing. He laughed when he saw it and said, "Show off."

The boarding ladder came up to his fighter and he walked over to Dima's gundam, trying to stop himself from laughing.

"Why thank you, my adoring fans", said Dima, climbing out of the cockpit and doing mock bows to the laughing squads.

Blair walked over to where Dima stood and was bowing and said, "These new fights are excellent. They are the best things that I have flown but something tells me that you have flown them before especially the way that you did the roll into the hangar before landing."
