Wing Commander

"What new tech., what has Admiral Tolwyn been keeping me out of now. I am sick of him doing this to me," Blair said before he began to dry his hair.

As he walked out of the showers he saw Flint entering and smiled. She just looked at him and said, "No way."

"They've got some kind of new Capital Ships. Look long and streamlined, sort of like a smooth pickle", said Dima, cocking his head sideways to look at Flint. "Who's the babe?" he asked of Blair once Flint had passed.

"Her name is Robin Peterson, call sign Flint, she is part of my squadron. Hell of a good pilot, especially with a Thunderbolt IV," Blair said. "Now getting back to the Kilrathi, what new capital ship is this, what does it look like- and more importantly what are its weapons like."

Blair then noticed that Dima hadn't heard a thing as he was watching Flint, "Umm, Earth to Romeo. I need to see what these new cap ships are like."

"Oh, sorry", said Dima."The ships, right, the ships. Pretty much they look like long, mettalic pickles. except they don't have bumps. In battle mode, at the intervals of every foot of 20 miles, a high power multi-purpose laser is deployed. They also have a battle bay that could hold 4 corvettes. As for missiles. They have multiple rocket launching systems. They fire off about 20 rockets per half a minute. These missiles are guided and are not fire and forget type. They hold about 1,000 of these missiles. They also have a new fighter. We can't report on that because no one has ever lived through the things attack. Lastly, they are reported to have allied themselves with a powerful race called the Mantis. Basicly human, the Mantis stand up to 15 ft tall. They have eight large, titanium tentacles which begin to grow from their back at birth. The worst thing is, though, that their technology is far superior to ours or the Kilrathi's. They are reputed to annhilating all life on a planet with 1 shot from their Lead Ship, the Black Death, a heavy BFG Flag Carrier with an enormous cannon in the front", reported Dima, not very calmly.

Blair looked at Dima, "How can we destroy something like that, we don't have anything that big. Even the Concordia when it was still in this war was not that big."

Blair walked over to his bed and sat down, his head in his hands, "The war is over for us. We have lost and there is nothing that we can do. I have never said anything like that before, even when we were at the academy but it seems impossible to fight a ship like that and even hope to survive."

Maniac:

I woke after i dont know how many hours of sleep.I was in no hurry to report because i would have to put up With Blair. The jerk who had been given the promotion I deserved...

"Oh, not only will we survive, we will crush them!" shouted Dima, griining wider than Maniac ever had. "We are getting a new type of fighter, or at leas the higher ranking officers are. Like you and me. It's called the MIG 529, after the old Russian jet",said Dima, looking at the wide-eyed Blair. "Remember those old Gundam Wing shows? Well that's where the idea originally came from. It looks like a heavy Ultimo in jet mode. But it is a master of disguiuse. It will quickly change into a small robot with one of two weapons, a machine-gun, a large one, mind you, and a bazooka", continued Dima.

Blair looked wide eyed at Dima, "When are we getting them. And what ship are they going to be in because there is no way that the Victory can hold a fighter like that. It is a new generation fighter and this carrier is only equipped to handle the fighters that we have now and that is just barely or is the other part of the news that you were going to give me. If we are going to a new carrier then it would be good to know. Wait, I'm sorry Dima; I didn't mean to snap at you- it is just that this war has got my nerves on edge."

"Well, to tell you the truth, I am supposed to shut up, but, we're going to be transferred to a new carrier. Called the Banisher. Top of the line. Never mind the snap", said Dima. "Well, old Victory, you have served us well. But new fighters call for new carriers", he said to the ship, looking around.

Blair looked around and said, "Yes, she has but I have the feeling that I will be back on her before this war is out."
He looked around the locker room, the locker room that he had known for over two years and said, "Goodbye old girl, I will miss walking through you and taking off and landing in and out of your hangar bay."

He then walked over to his locker and put on some clothes then looked at Dima.
"We have to go and see Captain Eisen."

"Affirmative" he complied. They began walking through the narrow and long hallways, taking elevators at different areas and stairs at others. At last they reached a large sliding door. Dima walked forward and the door parted. Inside it revealed the large bridge. Dima and Blair walked over to the captain.

"Captain Eisen, sir. I have just heard that some of the squadrons are to go onto the new carrier The Banisher. When is this to take place?"

Captain Eisen turned around, "Immediately Colonel. You are to get your gear together and head to the hangar bay and board one of the shuttles that will be down there waiting for you. Oh, and Colonel."

"Yes sir."

"I will be joining you, guess they decided that they would need an experienced captain to watch their latest ship. Oh, and there will be a guest on one of the shuttles waiting to speak to you."

Blair groaned, it could only be Admiral Tolwyn. He did like to make an entrance. The two of then left the bridge and went to the locker rooms where they got their gear and headed to the hangar bay to see the shuttles and all the pilots standing there waiting for them. Just then the door of one of the shuttles opened and Blair closed his eyes, not wanting to look at Admiral Tolwyn but opened them quickly when he heard, "Hello laddie, so we are together again."

It was General Taggart, his old wingman.

"General Taggart, eh?" asked Dima. "Well, might as well get this party started. Death-dealers, aboard, now. Just because I get a new suit doesn't mean any slacking off!" he shouted as the pilotes marched aboard. Blair did likewise with the crusaders and then him and Dima got on last, sitting opposite from each other.

As the shuttle took off and left the Victory Blair looked at Dima and said, "I wonder what Taggart is doing here. I know that we are facing a crisis but that doesn't mean that the head of intelligence for the Confed has to come out and greet us."

Just then Taggart walked into the main cabin and took a seat next to Dima then said, "I am hear laddie to help you. Trust me, you two are going to need it. That is why I personally picked you as you are the best pilots in the entire fleet."

"Why thank you, sir" said Dima, who had kept an attitude of calmness around him. "General Taggart, we know we need help, but we could get it from some new capital ships", said Dima. "And I mean like a new Destroyer, not a carrier", he quickly added.

"We do have a new destroyer and several other ships in production but I fear that they will be worthy too late. We are lucky that we had The Banisher already built and doing trials when her base was hit and everything was destroyed. When we heard that she was undamaged we breathed a sigh of relief as the new fighters aboard that carrier could very much decide the outcome of this war."

Blair sat back and looked at the general, not knowing what to say. It was too much for him to take in. An entire base had been destroyed and now they were going onto a brand new carrier to stop this new threat in fighters that hadn't even been tested in battle conditions yet.

"Well, this ought to be interesting", sighed Dima as the craft docked on the massive carrier.

As soon as the doors to the shuttles opened and everyone got out they were amazed with how large the hangar bay of the carrier looked. It was immense and they were told that this was only one of them.

While everyone looked around Blair stood there and listened to everything, especially the whine of the engines. He knew then that this ship hadn't been put through her paces and they were taking her straight into a war, one that would determine the fate of the entire human race.

He then saw one of the new fighters and walked over to it but before he could touch it he heard a voice behind him and turned to see Rachel walking towards him, a smile on her face.

"What, how did you get onto this carrier?" Blair asked, his mind trying to find a way that his favorite techie was here on The Banisher.

"By shuttle. How else do you think that I got here?" Rachel said with a laugh.

Blair was about to say something but before he could he felt a slap on his back and then Maniac say, "So buddy, who do we have here. Oh, sorry Rachel- how is our favorite techie doing?"

"About the same Maniac, trying to fight you off with a spanner."

Dima walked up to the happy pilots. "Sorry to break up the reunion, but don't you think we should test the jets?" asked Dima, jumping into a jet.

"Yeah, I think that we should," Blair said as he looked around until he saw one of the fighters that had his name on it. He walked up the ladder and was about to get into the cockpit but before he could a voice that he had been dreading to here came from behind him.
"Colonel Blair, I think that you will have to wait to go on a joyride. I think that you should join me in the main briefing room."

When Blair got out of the cockpit and turned around his worst fears came to life, it was Admiral Tolwyn.

Dima also muttered under his breath as he got out of the jet. "Yes sir", he said, unenthusiastically,

Admiral Tolwyn then walked out of the hangar bay with Blair and Dima following. As they walked along Blair walked close to Dima and said, "I hope that he doesn't stay long. He has such a charming personality but I don't want it wasted on little old me."

"Seriously, the son of a bitch never fails to piss me off", replied Dima, making sure that the Admiral was out of earshot.

"And just how do you think I feel. Hell you didn't have to put up with him on the Tiger's Claw. I think that he still blames me for the loss of that ship."

"Your right, but still, one can't help but feel sorry for himself", he whisepered again. Then they came to the room that Towlin wanted. "What the hell is he doing?" asked Dima.
