Windows Updates

Most likely it did reset the security settings. Alot of boards and sites will not let you post or use them if you cannot accept cookies. I forgot to tell ADR that.

Yes, this is exactly what it was... a security update to prevent online crashing. The alert came to me when I was shopping a website (for nurse's uniforms) and my MSN shut down. It suggested I download this new crash prevention update, which is what I did. Subsequently, it slowed my computer to a snail's crawl and would not allow me to post from my laptop at Lit. (I was able to post from my dell desktop and did so once or twice.)

The new windows service pack is having conflicts with spyware software, so before installing sp2 make sure you shut down, or remove ad-aware, spybot, or any other spyware programs you may have on your system.

I removed my ad-aware, and spybot, downloaded the new sp, and haven't had a problem with it, or pop up adds ever since.

You are the smart one in the minority, then. As of 2 days ago, the calls to MSN were so heavy it would have been over a 2 hour wait for me to talk to a tech. Everyone was calling with the same problem I was having.

i heard this on the Kim Komando radio computer show, i'm a talk radio junkie.

Well I downloaded it, and so far everythings ok. My only problems is that my computer just makes a 'boop' noise, randomly and without provocation. It's weird.
Also, that pop up thing only stops pop ups I want, like if I click on a link. I'm still getting pop ups for gay men personals. I hate that, I'm not gay and I'm not a man! Arg. It's like the emails I get offering to enlarge my penis.

i hated that noise ~

Upon reading though this thread, it seems the problems (or most of them at least) have had someone find a way to fix them, or a spot to look.

There is at least one web site that can maybe be of assistance in situations such as this. I've posted a link below.

No, if you are all alone, you can't check a web site for a possible answer, but if you're lucky enough to have a Shadowsdream in your life, keep her happy.

This is a pretty good site, but I've sometimes had to question the answers I'm given. Some of the posters are gamers and they are in a mind of their own. But, there are also some good tech minded individuals that would have been asked the question before, such in this case.

Waiting for a phone tech can be less than fun, expecially if you don't get the answer you want, when they do come to the phone.

Next problem you have, large or small, just check it out. It's broken up into operating system areas so you aren't asking a Win98 question of an XP tech(see lower left of the annoyances.org screen). Just keep that part straight.

And, they have a search available, to see if someone has already asked your question. From what I'm hearing in this thread, your question might have already been asked in their forum.

Just some info for the future. They've helpe me, in the past so just thought I'd pass it along.

Incidentally...ever wonder what phone techs do, when they have a lot of waiting calls on the line?

Drink coffee, a lot of them. Some actually take the calls, too. Sorry, just a little humor for ADR. I know...very little.

Below is the Win 2000 area. I have Win 2000pro. I downloaded a lot of critical links, a few weeks ago. Everything went fine for me. I don't like to be on the cutting edge of technology, like the rest of you high rollers.
