I know, I know, I should just get a new PC. chuckle.

Anyway, I have a weird problem... and my apologies if I start to devolved into 'Ya know, that thingy' speak. chuckle.

I've run into a problem opening new windows. Ya know how someone send you a link to somethig on an e-mail, and normally you just click on to it, your pc opens a new window, and you just go about your business? My pc won't let me do that.

It's NOT the pop-up blocker. I've turned it off a ton o' times, and nadda! I've also run a scan-disc, both standard AND thorough. Last time this happened, that fixed things up. This time... :(

What should I try next?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check to see if it has defaulted back to a double click...

I had this happen a time or two, and if you are used to single clicking it can really break your rhythm.

I had that problem for a while.

Have you updated your IE or you using IE 5.5 still?

I've noticed two things about Win 98 SE.

Even with my pop-up blocker shut off, it still can interfere with opening a new window. If I remove the pop-up blocker completely from memory -- i.e shutting it down instead of shutting it off -- the problem is usually resolved.

The other thing is that Win 98 apparently has a memory management/file allocation problem that will limit the number of windows it can open and cause it to hang until some of them are closed. This problem a occurs if Win 98 hasn't been rebooted or shutdown for more than about 18-24 hours.

I believe both problems may have something to do with the FILES statement in the config.sys file or system registry and Win 98 not releasing a file allotment when some files are closed, so the allowable numer of open files gradually falls down to a point where Windows can't open enough files simultaneously to function properly.

I always knew Gates was a PITA, but sheesh! Hmmmmmmmmmm... let me give the pop-up a shot again.

try to SHIFT-Click , This will open a link in a new IE window.
or try CTRL-Click on the link.
