Fine cast: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, David Kelly, Noah Taylor, James Fox, Missi Pyle, Christopher Lee.

The only actor I don't know is M. Pyle.

My understanding is that the Burton version will be closer to the book. I like Gene as well, but can't really see him in a serious physcho bad guy type of role.

Would probably make for a good story at the hands of one of the talented authors here.

I think Johnny Dep is one of the few a-list pretty boys who has the range to possibly pull this off. Let's all cross our fingers and hope this doesn't suck ass. I do so hope they will leave in my favorite line from the original Gene Wilder classic....

I'm sure Eddie Murphy is kicking himself for missing out on the chance to rehash yet another iconic farce of his generation's childhood. Perhaps he'll turn up next in the 2005 remake of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."

I'm with you here, Q. I'll see Depp in anything. His looks aren't it; he's an actor with a brain and something behind his eyes. He knows the meaning of irony too (most Americans don't). P.
