Ok my wife and I made a will this week and got the original notorized and such.

We are making copies for the appropriate parties and one for ourselves.......

Would we want to send the Original to the Executor of our will, or just a copy and keep the original here at the house?

Thanks.

I'm not sure about the legalities of a will, but normally I would say always keep originals of everything.

Agreed.

But with my past and all.. I would suggest putting all your important documents into a bank safe deposit box. :)

Well that was kindof my point too....what if we both died in a house fire....gawd forbid.....but I was thinking of exactly your experience Kitten.

Because the originals with the notary seal stamp would be more official in nature.

I'll tell you all this much....if you dont have a will made it is easy to do and recomended.....My ex wifes father died suddenly without a will and his estate went to probabte court and turned into a real mess for the children.

You dont need anything fancy, even if you have a home, kids whatever.....something is better than nothing. I bought a will kit online and retooled it to suit our needs and so it could be understood by a lamen.

Do it...you dont want to be caught dead without one, believe me.

You can have all of my posession if I die suddenly, Dave.

All wills should be posted to the GB for safekeeping.

After all, we're the only ones who know what your real wishes are.

Common practise is to let your Executor know where to locate the document but to put the original somewhere safe and neutral.

This is what I would have said plus tell your executor and possibly a close friend, sibling, etc. where to locate your important papers in your absence.

I had an elderly relative pass away who had pre-arranged EVERYTHING and was super organized. She had all document originals in her deposit box at the bank, plus copies of everything in a file box at her home. It included her regular Will, living will, funeral arrangements, list of people to contact, and other last instructions. We should all take a page from that book and make it as easy on our loved ones as possible.
