The price of regular gas went from 1.48/9 to 1.53/9 in a matter of 12 hours here in GA and I assume across the country. I know for a fact that there is no shortage of oil! The war has not begun so what the hell is going on?????

What???

OMG, Badasschick! That is ridiculous!!! What the heck is going on?

Our gas hasn't been 1.48 since around October.

Ours has been around 1.60 ish, but I haven't been in town for a few days to see what it is now.

I heard last night in San Marino gas was $3.29, but I believe that to be pure price gouging.

Ours bounced up 20 cents /gal in about twelve hours here a few days before everybody else complained. It has settled back a bit, but it's still spendy.

What's happened is the oil companies have decided to see how much they can make. They like having a Texan running the country.

I am tired of getting fucked by my government, LK, I never get my jollies off but they do. BTW, I trust my new AV suits your sense of going with the flow? :D It seems you did not like the one I had last night.

In my little corner of Atlanta, gas was $1.41 at 5pm Monday night. Tuesday morning it was $1.49.

Last night's av didn't seem to me to suit your mood, but yes I like this one - more light-hearted.

I still play the part of the fool, LK. And I could not find a pic of Uncle Sam fucking a woman so I chose to go with the AV that appears now. If anyone can tell me where to get an Uncle Sam getting his jollies off pic please let me know.

This has been going on for over a year. I can't believe this is the first time you have noticed it! (Prior to this time, gas stations always raised prices on Friday between 1-3 cents and then would lower it Monday.)

For the past year it has jumped on Thursdays anywhere from 20-26 cents and would only decrease about half that come Mondays.

Now they are changing almost daily- never to our benefit- of course. But, prices are around $1.61.

Crude oil is hovering around the $35/bbl mark and will no doubt rise more on fears of war, but will eventually stabilize. Even OPEC countries agree that it should be trading in the range of $20-25.

I am keeping my fingers crossed! lol

I am looking for my red and white striped pants and tall blue hat now...

Agent, the only time there is sharp increases in gas prices here in Bumblefucked is near holidays, so this quick rise was a shock. Is there a holiday near that I am not aware of? LOL! BTW, price gouging is against the law, why hasn't anyone challenged this part of that?

LK the Uncle Sam

LOL! You look more like Abe Lincoln than Uncle Sam. And you noticed I said Uncle Sam gets his jollies off but does not allow me to. Are you so inconsiderate? :p

Well, SA, yesterday was Mardi Gras, after all. :nana:

Hmmm..isn't Madi Gras a French thing? I thought we were boycotting anything French. I purposely did not French kiss anyone today to do my part for the boycott. ;)

I don't see where it says he keeps you from getting off, merely that he's fucking you. Are the two incompatible?

Apparently they are incompatible. He is having fun and I am not. Now with you that could change, yes?

apples, tasting

Perhaps so, SA. I don't think of myself as self-centered sexually. But then, I don't think of myself as uncle sam, either, until the chance to don a role pops up...

Lk, what state do you have to be from, in order to stop a revolution in Venezuela, or to sweet talk Saddam into moving to Cuba, or to convince Senate Democrats to allow drilling in Alaska?

You obviously don't understand how market prices work. BTW, the two largest oil companies in the U.S., are from England (British Petroleum) and the Netherlands (Shell/Texaco).

But hey, that doesn't sound as "conspiratorial" as the mean old oil company executives sitting in dark rooms smoking cigars and determining the street price of gasoline. You realize that to conspire to fix prices (or to gouge) is a federal crime?

The price of gasoline is determined by the ppb atd (price per barrel at the dock), sometimes called the "spot market" price for crude, modified by the margin on the price of short term oil futures. The spot market price is set by what export producers (OPEC countries mostly) are able to get for their oil. When supplies are low or the price on the futures markets goes up, the price of gasoline goes up. Also recognize that the Fed and most states, tax oil twice. They tax it upon production or import and again at the pump. The tax at the pump is set on a per gallon basis, but the import and production taxes are based on the spot market price. This means that the more expensive the crude is, the more tax is paid before it becomes gasoline. This also raises the price per gallon at the pump.

Don't people realize that both the wholesale and retail gasoline markets are competitive markets. In the grocery store, you can buy a loaf of bread for 89 cents or a loaf that looks exactly the same for $2.29. Most of the difference in price is determined by the brand name of the bread and what the maker feels the public is willing to pay for that loaf. If no one buys bread for 2.29, that company won't stay in business. The same thing happens in ALL competetive markets, gasoline included.

just some thoughts.

Forgive my apparent ignorance, but isn't

...the price of gasoline determined by what the market will freakin bear?

Beware estimates of others based on isolated, anecdotal statements.

I have to admit that I don't really feel that sorry for you when it comes to gas prices. Here in Denmark we pay around $4.50 for 1 gallon of gas.

Jeez

You are all so lucky, Gas over here is between $5.00 & $5.50 a gallon at the cheapest stations, ($5 unleaded & $5.50 LRP).
Some stations in remote areas & big cities charge more.

pops...........
