Will Bush stage another "terrorist attack" before the Congressional elections?
All right, spurts fiends, here's another one of my famous patented polls. Bush's approval rating is sagging. The flag-waving hysteria which prevailed after Sept. 11 has now largely subsided. The Democrats are leading in the polls, and it appears likely they will regain control of the House in the upcoming Congressional elections. Despite claims of an economic "recovery," mass layoffs continue and the unemployment rate continues to rise. Nagging questions about Bush's ties to Enron and his prior knowledge of 9/11 threaten to enmesh his illegitimate regime in scandal and bring it down. His Middle East policy is totally muddled, a clear failure, assailed on all sides, both right and left.
In fact, the situation is beginning to resemble the situation on Sept. 10 of last year, when Dubya was in "deep doo doo" politically. Then the apparent terrorist attack on Sept. 11 came along to miraculously save his ass. As astute political observers have noted, such a massive, coordinated attack could never have never taken place without the U.S. intelligence agencies looking the other way and allowing it to happen. A substantial and growing body of evidence demonstrates that the U.S. government ignored numerous warnings of the 9/11 attack. The very fact that there has been no investigation (nearly a year later!) into what was at the very least a "massive intelligence failure" shows the illegitimate Bush regime has much to hide. The motivation is obvious: whipping the American public into a frenzy of war hysteria, so Bush could ram through his right-wing agenda of perpetual war abroad and massive repression here at home.
So the question is: since it worked so well the first time (at least temporarily), will Bush in his growing desperation try it again? Will he stage another apparent terrorist attack before the Congressional elections, in order to boost his popularity?
