Unless brought up non-normally and some sort of rebellion is rationalized - why?

Why would anyone want to change their way of life - change the way they live - live life as somebody they are not?

Unless they were fucked up. Unless their parents fucked them up.

What if an Israely kid - insisted on living his life like a white South African? What if an Asian kid from let's say, Saigon - insisted that he live his life like a Native American? What if an Italian kid - insisted on living his life like a Sherpa guide?

And what if these examples were not isolated incidents? But - they were a trend?

A fucking trend? Bunches of kids were doing it. And marketer's were 'selling it?'

Isn't the idea behind that whole 'manifest destiny' and 'go west young man' and waves of immigrants all about re-creating yourself as the person you want to be? Isn't that what America's (and Canada and Australia and N.Z.) always been all about?

Okay, maybe to some jaded people it's just one more marketing opportunity, but so what? They're gonna buy something if they have disposible income. Who's to tell them they can't be what they want to be? You?

Nothing confuses me about 'being what you want to be.'

What interests me is 'wanting to be something you are not.'

I particular - the possibility of 'wanting to have a different colored skin' (thanks M. Jackson/Jacko) one you don't have.

Hell - I even understand wanting a dick or not wanting a dick - depending upon your genetics and physics - easier than 'skin color wannabe's.

I mean, the thought - 'I wanna keep my white skin, but deny that fact - deny that race - even though I was brought up in that bullshit - and embrace my true Soul Brother attitude (which by the way I have to teach myself how to do) so I can be cool. Cooler than the real white boy that I grew up as.'

That's just plain psycho shit - plain and simple.

Okay - I gave this some more thought last night, and.........

You are born - you of course have a genetic finger print. But - also - through your early, formative years, by your parents, whoever (and no matter how bad or good) - have an 'inate character' - an engrained personality.........

This is essentially - who you are.

Now, any positive thinking person - turns this 'character' - no matter how bad (if bad a person normally takes the good and turns the bad into good - more character) - into a 'positive life force.' They build upon it.

Now - to deny this - to deny this inate personality - this character - is to 'deny oneself.' It is to deny your past. It is to deny your birth.

And as open minded as I am - I can't understand why any, healthy, normal person would want to do this.

So - all you 'knowing open minded people out there' - explain why I may be thinking wrong here.

Oh dear, I hope I'm not blasted for this. I think it all stems from the fact that so many young folks have the need for community. Belonging to a group is so important that self-identity is malleable. In the U.S. we are classified, still, by color. Either you are white, black, brown, yelow, or red. Even though you may be of Irish decent, you are white. It's different when you are black or brown. You are a monority. Obviously a Caucasian can not become a minority by means of dialect, musical taste, or fashion sense. But, identifying with facets of a culture brings you a bit closer.

What? You've figured out a higher purpose? A more lofty goal?

You just 'do it and get through it,' in as positive way as you possibly can. Then you deal with whatever happens when you croak.

If you might choose a negative path - fine. Then your dealings with whatever may be beyond (most likely nothing) will reflect that accordingly.

It's actually pretty simple. Not as mysterious or complex as most people like to make it out to be.
