Wife setting up an OF!

I've been mulling this over for a couple of weeks and think I could do with some impartial views on it. Pretty much out of nowhere, my wife casually announced that she's been thinking about setting up an Only Fans page. She's read all the tales of women making money selling their nudes and other sexual content and, well, she wants a piece. What really threw me back was that I'd recently been developing this really hot fantasy about setting up on OF with/for her - I love sharing her nudes, as our Tumblr profile in the link below attests (until Tumblr went chicken about sexual content, of course...) The fantasy had progressed to doing some research about it, as a means of me trying to pluck up the courage to make a proposal to her. And then she beat me to it!

We haven't really sat down and talked it through since (busy lives, kids etc). What I've been mulling over is - is it a good idea? Does anyone have any experience/suggestions/warnings? From the way she was talking, for her it would purely be about the money, whereas for me it would be about the turn on. But I'm well aware that all these stories about women making a killing selling racy content on OF is, if not quite BS, pretty misleading - they are few and far between, and you have to put a LOT of work into it. How do I manage her expectations? I'm worried it would knock her confidence is she/we went ahead and she didn't make much. On the other hand, I've got some ideas for what I think could generate at least a modest amount of interest - should we just go for it as a kinky little project with no expectations and see what happens??

I proposed a friend went on OF. We looked at it.
You make money if you attract lots of people.
So same as Aloe Vera or any other MLM!
If she is purely after the money there are better ways!

I don’t have experience with OF specifically, but in general, selling nudes is nowhere near as easy or lucrative as people seem to think. You really have to churn out good, free content every single day to draw a following, and then manage to get some of that following to be willing to pay, and they will be a small minority.

I might be wrong but I don’t think there’s much of a way to build a following ON OnlyFans, so she’d most likely need to be hustling on other venues, such as the Reddit “Gone Wild” type subs (those that allow posts from accounts associated with selling, that is), among at least a couple other venues like Twitter and Instagram. You have to be willing and able to do very specific themes/scenarios.

I don’t recommend trying to monetize something you enjoy as a hobby. In my experience, the small amount of money made won’t be worth turning enjoyment into a job, and it will almost certainly start to feel like a job.

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated. You echo my thoughts about it exactly - making money in a serious way from it would, like anything, become a chore!

In truth, I spend enough time on various platforms to handle the hustle side - that part would be fun to me. I wonder how soon she would tire of having to churn out pics day after day. And like you say, responding to very specific requests.

As has been mentioned, providing content is a big task as is generating traffic. It see a lot of women on OF post on multiple other free to generate traffic for their OF.

It seems to me that there will also be quite a few other factors to consider that can theoretically be optimized to your situation.

For instance, I expect that several factors play into pricing. Presumably the higher the price the more your subscribers expect. More (or less) may mean frequency of fresh content and quality of content, but it also includes nature of content. If you are posting the same thing as everyone else on OF or within a certain genre "keeping up" may be a much bigger task than if you have an identifiable niche where she stands out for whatever reason. Having a library of content is also valuable so the longer she is on there she is building up value. Meanwhile, price thresholds will matter. Not only do subscribers expect a lot more for $15 than for $1.50, but there is probably a much higher number of subscribers willing to pay the lower price somewhat independent of content. Consumers often have arbitrary price thresholds that are rooted in perception or budget. It might be easier to get 1,000 subscribers at $2 than it is to get 100 subscribers at $20 (same revenue either way) and their content expectations will be lower. As a consumer I like variety. I'd rather subscribe to 10 OF pages that post a modest amount of content than one OF page that posts 10x as much content, assuming the content is of somewhat comparable appeal and quality.

It seems to me that the context of all of this is today's internet on which abundant free content is available. You have to offer something unique in order to get consumers to pay. Of course each woman is unique in her own right, but the uniqueness needs to be compelling. For any given set of characteristics most of us can imagine women who are very beautiful but still generically so and we can imagine women who for whatever reason strike a different chord - maybe they are 1% more beautiful than all the others, or just that little bit thicker in all the right places or they just do a bit better job with their poses and wardrobe. But why would I subscribe to an OF of a pretty blond who posts pictures of her in a bikini by a the pool when I can get literally millions of free images of supermodels in bikinis by a pool. Only slightly less difficult would be to get me to pay a relatively premium price to look at one woman - she would need to have a lot of content that really struck a personal chord with me. But I will readily pay a small price for modest content that strikes a chord with me.

As we know men are not actually a generic mass of humanity who all want the same thing. Or at least we have a wide range of preferences in that one thing. Presumably you know what is unique about your wife. But she can also create originality and uniqueness by catering to specific wants among her audience. If she is in it for the money it will be natural for her to think this way. For me the women that are appealing have a unique way of understanding how I like to see them - they think beyond what women generically think men want and really know their niche. For that woman I will happily subscribe to a modest price for a modest amount of content that really strikes a chord with me. It is a whole package that is about a lot more than just how good looking she is - in fact within reasonable limits that is probably the least important thing.

Thanks for such a detailed and considered reply. You make a good point about cost, it seems to me a lot of the higher priced OF pages are slightly unrealistic. Like you say, you might as well be affordable enough to encourage a big audience as take a risk on premium prices for a select few.

In terms of her 'niche' - well I have a few ideas I'm working on that I could suggest but ultimately it's up to her. She definitely has that ordinary married mum next door who happens to have a great body thing going on which seems popular. Add a filthy mind to the mix and I can see guy's heads being turned. My thinking is that it's very hard to cut through with pics alone. But naughty captions, stories etc, that's where you might be able to do something a little different. The power of the written word, as this very site is testament to.

Yes, I think that you are correct about it being about more than just the pictures. That is especially the case with anything fetish oriented. But even just with the pics themselves I personally find that there are often some minor little things that really change the image one way or another. With so much available content even us horny guys notice the little extras.

I think that the pricing is often a psychological thing. Most services and apps are all about building a following then monetizing it later with price increases, extra services or advertising (presumably not applicable).

Good luck!

Unless your wife is like Stellar levels of hot, or famous, you're not likely to make tons of money given all the competition out there. And there is also the fact that nothing is ever lost on the Internet. Once its out there, it stays out there. And you never know who may see it.

As others have mentioned, don't go into OF with ANY expectations. First, you'll need to promote on other forms of social media. Unless she knows a hundred people who she doesn't mind telling about her OF, utilize free platforms to get interest. This can be tricky if you're talking about platforms (FB or Insta) where most of your contacts are friends and family. Hell, you can even go on Twitch and make more money there, if you strike the right chord. I've sen people get paid...well paid...just by letting people watch them sleep.
