Why won't they ever learn . . .

In case you haven't heard, 18 year-old cutie (and Disney icon) Vanessa Hudgens has found herself in the middle of a nude photo controversy. Just weeks after the release of High School Musical 2 (and loads of promotional appearances), the Enquirer broke the story earlier this week that pics she took of herself for her boyfriend (and costar) Zac Efron have somehow made their way to the net.

"I want to apologize to my fans, whose support and trust means the world to me. I am embarrassed over this situation and regret having ever taken these photos. I am thankful for the support of my family and friends."

I fell really bad for her, she seems like a nice kid and that's a hell of a way to make your first big PR blunder. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for nudity (in fact, if she'd like to make a homemade porn with her, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Anne Hathaway, I'd be all for it :D ). But this is going to kill her career with Disney and I wonder if she's good enough to have a career outside of it. When are these kids going to learn that when you take these kinds of pics, they will find their way to the public.

I don't get it either, but it is becoming more and more common. Apparently there is a real problem with girls getting pressured by their boyfriends to take nude pictures. Then the boyfriend posts them on the internet.

Speaking of pictures getting out... Anyone see the Dr. Laura pictures? I think they were taken in the 70's or 80's by her then boyfriend. They came out publically a year or three ago.

I don't know about that. High School Musical 1 & 2 did phenomenally well and I doubt Disney wants to let go of their cash cow just yet. They might keep her on in spite of the photos.

Hey, with Linsley Lohan to compare to, Vanessa still on the side of the angels.

But girls, let this be a lesson to you: Don't let your boyfriend take naked pictures of you!

I saw those . . . she was mildly attractive, but the pics were not what I'd call flattering. I'm not sure how the pics got out, but Vanessa is really in trouble. Anne Hathaway did Havoc (a really bad movie with a fair amount of nudity and very adult content) to break away from her Disney image, but this is different. This girl just seems like she made a bad decision and is going to pay a very heavy price. She seems to enjoy where she's at, but I can't imagine Disney shrugging off naked pictures on the net.

There were rumblings within days of HSM 2 coming out that Disney was going to make the 3rd without the two stars (something about not wanting to actually have to pay them  ). We'll see what happens after this, but I am really curious to find out how they got out. Did she leak them because she wants out? Did the boyfriend do it for some strange reason? Stolen phone? That'll be the most interesting part of this story. So far there are 5 pics on the net and supposedly 25 more floating around somewhere. The really sad thing is that some subscription porn site is going to use it to make a boatload of money off her image (that was stolen). There really should be a law. :(

BTW, I saw her do an interview with one of the Good Morning shows and they asked her specifically about this issue. She said she's not a partier, there wouldn't be pictures of her stumbling out of a bar drunk, or racy photos . . . that wasn't how she was raised and she took seriously her status as a role model for kids. Here we are 2 weeks later. Guess someone should mention that whole thing about glass houses to her.

Yeah, its going to be tough for her to stay with Disney. Of course Disney was also responsible for Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears... Hell, I've seen some pretty comprimising pictures of Snow White.

And Lindsey Lohan. Their batting average ain't too good on long-lasting wholesomeness. Maybe they should stick to animated girls.

Lohan is on another plane of screwed up. Absentee/criminal father, wanna be party girl/mother, growing up a celeb with all the money to indulge her whims . . . naked pics would be the least of her worries. I don't think Vanessa did anything wrong, but it is certainly embarrassing (since unlike Hilton/Spears/Aguilera, she isn't trying to sell the bimbo image). I guess the reason I started a thread over it was because, like only_more_so said, it is becoming so common. Women taking crazy chances, assuming nothing bad will happen. There was a video on Kontraband (a fun site that compiles bits from all over the net) made by a girl on her webcam that saw her dancing sexy and exposing her breasts (despite her looking more like she should have been getting ready for 8th grade graduation), that she finishes by looking into the camera and saying, "This is just for you, Jamie . . . Nobody else better see it or else." Yeah, and it was on the top 20 all time videos of the site with tens of thousands of views.

If a woman wants to get naked, I'm all for it. I love sharing images of Kiten (always with her permission) and I encourage it. If a girl is over 18, she should do whatever she wants, and shouldn't be ashamed of it. However, young women seem to be doing pretty risky things, then assuming nothing bad will come of it. You can find pics of college aged girls going to the bathroom all over the net (with big smiles for the camera). GGW, along with others, gets women by the truckloads to show their breasts or asses for no compensation. You have to wonder how many of these girls have to face the reality that they'll run into someone who's seen them naked (and often not someone they'd be happy about). It nags at me, but I can't quite figure out how to phrase my unease. Maybe it's because I'm raising a girl, maybe it's just me being old-fashioned, or maybe it's something else. *shrug*

Oh, I think you're absolutely right to be nagged by it--with or without raising a girl though, certainly, that must be on your mind. I think what's nagging is that it's the girls who always pay for this stupidity. At that age, we all do stupid things, accept dares, trust our friends, etc. But it's not the boys who end up on the internet exposed, leered at, and all the rest. And the worst part about it is that there doesn't seem to be anyway for the girls to get the photos off once they're on, or get justice for them ending up on the internet in the first place.

And no, it's not about the nudity, which you and I agree should be no big thing, it's that the nudity is presented without their permission; it's that this nudity which ends up being leered at by thousands of stangers was offered to someone in trust and in private, and it's that some friend or boyfriend didn't honor that trust, or even have sense to view it as beautiful and natural; it's that it's been posted as something lurid. All this is nagging.

And if that isn't enough, there doesn't seem to be anyway to keep such girls from doing this stupid thing because they're at that age. At that, "Why not?" age when they act on impulse rather than think, believe and trust when they ought not, and can get so horribly hurt over what ought to be something that is, in the end, perfectly innocent and no big deal...but isn't.

Very nagging.

Oh please, this is not something girls are "pressured into", at least not in all cases. I'll agree that a lot are foolish about realizing how the pictures will be floating around.

Disney's kind of a hypocritical company, but whatever.

I don't know, the whole thing seems a little fishy to me. There has been rumors of photos for about the last 10 days on the internet and then, suddenly they appear just as the hype around HSM2 starts to fade a little bit to the media's back burner.

Apparently she took the photos herself (with the help of a tripod, others she can be seen holding the camera and taking the picture in a mirror) to surprise her boyfriend. Some sources say he never got the pictures, which would mean she would have been the only person to have them.

The whole thing is kind of curious -- just like I am to see just how Disney deals with this. I do know in less than 24 hours, injunctions have already been filed to force most of the images to be pulled from the web already and that sounds more like corporate money than that of an 18-year-old actress, so we'll have to wait and see.

From the pages of 'What Would Tyler Durden Do', regarding Hudgens' pictures.
UNSEXY UPDATE - wow, her lawyers are going nuts. i mean, "images removed upon request".
I think Disney looked at all the HSM 2 spin-offs they have coming up and decided to test the theory that you can't control the Net. :catroar:

oh, I think it is corporate money. Disney money. I also know that for the first bit of time the photos were out there, the majority of people believed them to be photoshopped.

I'm wondering if the reason she admitted to them being real was specifically to give her the power to go after them.

I'm also certain that if she is serious about staying with Disney, then Disney was consulted before she admitted that they were real...

I don't understand the whole idol worship of any of these pseudo-celebrities. If you're famous for putting out nude pictures of yourself or a sex video, you should be relegated to pornstar status and shouldn't be regarded as anything more. And teenage girls look up to these people. I can't imagine why.

you obviously don't have kids the appropriate age, dude....

believe me, this girl is a huge star with kids from 7-12 years old...

The question i always wonder at why some people act they way they do i simple. for example, i saw a kid not too long ago, couldnt have been more then 15, wearing a shirt that says "of course i love you, my dick is hard isnt it?" the question i have about all these sorts of things is- dont these people have a mother?

A couple of sites I visit a lot have commented about Disney's lawyers. They really are treating this seriously, (although it's still easy to find the original 5 pics). The question is, will the racier ones come out, and can they ride out the storm (you know the second it reaches the point where they aren't making enough money to justify what they're losing and the embarrassment they're dealing with, she'll be gone).

You know, this thing is the perfect setup for a fanfic piece. You can almost picture Vanessa sobbing in the studio chief's office (say a 50 year-old man). He says, "You know Vanessa, I've seen the pictures (as he pauses to look longingly over her figure), and it will be incredibly difficult for us to keep you. Is there something you have to offer that would make it worth my while?"

Oh, no. I totally understand that kids that age do. I just don't get why. And it gets worse. My wife watches the Disney Channel. All that stuff is horrible. Overacted, cheesy. I think I threw up in my mouth a little just thinking about it.

My sons are 5 and 7 but don't watch that garbage. They watch Pokemon, which is also horrible, but I don't see naked pics of Pikachu on the net. Although...

I totally agree. Most of the kids who idolize these people live in a fantasy world and start acting like these TV characters. I read somewhere that a poll was done with girls ages 12-17 asking what was most important in life. The overwhelming answer? Personal fame and fortune. And the same girls overwhelmingly answered that their idols were Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan. Sad.

That is a major part of what's bothering me. Even South Park's big "whore off" did nothing to make that vapid, waste of space think about her life (imagine being so fucked up that a tv show has an episode devoted to what utter trash you are). Lindsay is just another child actor story. She actually has talent, she's not famous just because of her partying. It will eventually kill her or ruin her career (they're already saying many studios won't touch her because of her problems). Paris (and some of the ones around her) are literally famous for not having any redeeming qualities other than their lack of shame and ability to get high/fuck.

The next one to watch is Hayden Panetiere. She started doing risque photos when she was 16 and counts herself one of Paris' close friends. She just turned 18, so it might take her a few more weeks, but there are already dozens of pictures of her licking strange objects (including her friend's breasts). I'm not sure if it'll be her face down on a mirror in a fancy nightclub's restroom or if it'll be a sex tape, but there will be something soon. Since she has talent and has already moved beyond Disney, I'm guessing it won't hurt her any.

I agree. That Hayden girl, undoubtedly, is very attractive but I don't consider her a part of that bunch AS MUCH because you don't hear about her in the media, aside from her actual work. She's on that NBC show Heroes, I think. Never seen it. But at least her air-time consists more of her actual work than of mindless gossip and sensationalism in the media.

This couldn't be a bigger harbinger of things to come.

I heard that they were planning HSM 3 and 4 and are currently in talks with both her and Zac. People quoted Zac as saying that the original cast might do HSM 3 if they all agree with the script.

Sadly, I think Vanessa will eventually go the way of Lindsey and Christina. Singing careers, movie deals, and Disney is one lethal combination.

Yeah, definitely isn't good for Hayden to hang out which that chick. Hopefully she has an extremely strong and supportive family to counterbalance the tyrannical whoredom that is 'The Paris'.

Well, I think the answer to that is that the first picture was taken when she was 16. Could you imagine letting your 16 year-old hang out with Paris? I doubt that Vanessa is heading that way, she seems like a kid who just made a mistake. Hayden likes to party and has publicly said she gets off on being bad, but getting away with it. That's her choice and as long as she understands the consequences . . . hey, it's her life.
