Why we write.

There is one particular author (I won't mention her name, because I know she posts here) who's stories I just keep going back and reading over and over. Her stories are what have inspired me to start writing. Even after reading some of the stories countless times, my heart still flutters at certian parts.

I'm not a great story-teller and probably never will be. I wish I were, but I seem to be more interested in what people think than in what they do. I think more in terms of feelings than in terms of deeds.

I'll argue against that one most vehemently, Zoot.

I hope you've told her, feedback like that is an author's lifeblood...

I might once I actually write something decent. I wouldn't want to post a pile of poorly constructed garbage and say "Look! You inspired me to write this!" I'm extremely picky about my writing, lol.

Okay, point accepted, hope you scored her high

Actually, no. Now I've thought about it again, that shouldn't stop you giving good feedback. I'm glad of anything even half decent coming down on my writing, but I don't go looking to compare their writing with mine. I just keep working to make the next story better than the last.

Oh, I did give feedback. I just didn't tell her that she had inspired my writing ^_^

Apart from when you aim at the strokers or begin your story with "Well now that I've made my mom pregnant I should start with my sis. (honey blonde hair, 5' 2", perfect tits etc)" Is "I wanted to read what happened next" the best comment?
This is a very helpful thread, gauchecritic, and I thank you for starting it.

I am a reader, not a writer, but I frequently wonder about what type of feedback a Lit author really wants.

This is a site for erotica, and I read the stories here to be aroused. No, I do not consider myself to be a "stroker". I appreciate character development, plausible plots, and vivid descriptions to help bring the story to life. But the bottom line is, a good Lit story (for someone like me) is one in which I can relate to one of the characters, lose myself in the tale, and become aroused in the process.

In providing feedback, I am not really the type of person who will gush, "ooooo, that made me soooooo wet!" I see a lot of this type of thing on the public comments. There is nothing wrong with it, but it's just not my style.

On the other hand, it is difficult to explain why a story aroused me without revealing personal information about myself that I don't usually share with a complete stranger.

After I have said things like - "nice character development, interesting plot, good descriptions" - I am always looking for a meaningful way to express my appreciation to the author for what they have written.

This thread gives me some very good ideas. Thanks for starting it.

Alice

P.S. I especially like the idea of telling an author you have read his or her work over and over again. One author in particular wrote a pair of stories which I have read at least a dozen times in the last few months. Though I wrote feedback to her when I originally read the stories, I think I'll go write a second note of appreciation right now. :)

Excellent! Good job, everyone. Our plan is working! Now we'll get more feedback than ever....

Bwahahahahaha!

A question about feedback....

To the authors here -

In addition to the compliments, do you also appreciate respectfully delivered suggestions for improvement, or do you consider those presumptuous?

Alice

P.S. to 3113 - LOL!

Good golly. Alice U.'s posts are the most thoughtful and interesting I've read in ages. Would we had more Readers like her :) .

I'll thank Gauche too for this thread, however poorly I read him at times ;) .

speaking solely for myself, i am receptive to any suggestions or criticisms. indeed, i would consider it arrogant of me not to be, but then again, my ways are not those of others.

Alice, all I can tell you is what I prefer to do as far as feedback is concerned. Public comments should be positive. Criticism, even constructive criticism, should be rendered privately where possible. Of course, this may be a better approach from me because my criticisms tend to be a bit nit-picky, but that's how I do it. ;)
I never write public comments. I have seen a lot of public comments criticizing other people's public comments..... ...... and I am really not writing feedback in order to start a debate. All my feedback is private.

Most of the constructive suggestions that I have written have been well-received.

At least, the authors said they appreciated them.... LOL.... It's possible that they were really thinking something else entirely, but were too polite to say!

like i said, i can't speak for others. :>

that said, i do nuke idiot comments. does it show that i have a story in loving wives? :>

From Aurora: (thankyou)

You're very welcome. :)

For "Be Mine":

Amazed

I loved this story. This is the first one that I have read in the erotic horror genre and was pleasently surprised. The story was well articulated, had a flow that didn't seem too rushed or too slow, and the ending was just as good as the beginning. Very impressed and look forward to reading more from you. I can only hope that when I choose to submit something that it turns out as well as yours.

Aww, shucks! :D

For "Bouquet":

Another great read

Aurora:

There are about a dozen writers of erotic literature (seems to be evenly split by gender) whose work I'll read as soon as I note that they've authored something new, and without a question about the subject. I know it'll be well written, it tells a very entertaining story, makes sense, and because of their ability to put words together, I'll be satisfied and feel great after the experience. I also know that a future re-read will pass the test of time. You are in that catagory. Thank You. Ronnie W.

Holy hell! :nana:

I had a new story go up today, but I received feedback on two older stories :

I'd love fame and fortune from my writing, but this will do nicely...

Edited to add : if the writer(s) of these feedbacks see this, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

You are a discriminating, intelligent, wonderful, sexy supermodel.

And if you are not a woman, please let me enjoy that fantasy. :)

i have so many nice comments on my only submission so far and most are from you nice people here at AH, so thank you.

the one that really caught my attention was the following:

Well written

I found this story to be quite well written. The part that caught my attention was how close the characters came to going in one direction yet were able to hold off and enjoy each other later.

It made for a believeable story, and one that takes 'loving wives' back to 'loving wives'. :)

Champagne and Strawberries

It's great to receive compliments, doubly so when you respect the sender.

'11/03/05 By: Daniellekitten in Michigan.

Wow, the ending blew me away. I had to read the name twice before my mind actually caught on. Fantastic story all in all.'

Many thanks to all who have commented on my stories. :rose: :rose: :rose: *hugs* :rose: :rose: :rose:
