Sour grapes department. Or is it 'humblebragging'? My recent story "The One Next Door" picked up a hot rating and 14k views in one day. Maybe the best that a story of mine has done so quick. Curious about this nice surge, I scanned other 'girl next door' stories in Erotic Couplings. Read a few. Hmm. Seems I tapped into a pretty common genre. Pretty close to formula. And the 'negative' comment on my story quibbled about a bit too much 'getting to know you' stuff in the middle of the 2 1/2 page story. This hints that if you really want your story to be *popular* -- cleave to the genre.

It would be tempting, and boring, to try each genre as tight to formula as possible: Mommy cooing on sonny's hard boner next to dad in the old Chevy. Staid female astronaut brought to unprecedented orgasm by octo-alien in capsule. Two mature female buds very slowly discovering their mutual attraction on a road trip. Wife boffs electrician in front of bored hubby but then gets her cumuppance when he does her best friend. Woman pretends to be manequin and jills herself in Saks Fifth show window. Cheerleader does daddy under bleachers. Old dude or dudess does the Latinx helper who massages a cramp in the home. Bodacious blonde wife of cracker police chief does pimp with monumental BBC. Incel watches as homecoming princess is ravaged by stinky homeless dude. Zitty nerd makes a 'candy crush' game that hypnotizes hottie into doing anything he asks. Uptight female exec discovers she is addicted to taking it up the tail from the janitor. Two hunky draft picks chosen for the same team discover they are a 'winning combo.' Laeticia and Montmorency yearn for each other but because his stallion spurns her mare they move to different continents,..." Aaaaaaand go!

We had that thread the other day with all the 'but it didn't happen' scenarios. Just base it off of that and you but 2/3 of the tropes covered

People often talk about the 'mother sitting on son's lap in the car' scenario and how it is a common trope in the TI stories here. I personally have never read one, but then again I haven't gone looking for them.

My question is - does this scenario often come up with other TI stories or does it seem to be exclusive to mother and son? You never hear of daughter sitting on father's lap in the car stories, nor a sister sitting on her brother's lap. Nor do you hear of it with male and female cousins, aunt and nephew or uncle and niece.

And you don't hear of it in other genres, like I've never seen an erotic couplings story where a female co-worker sits on a male co-worker's lap in a car trip during some sort of corporate team building exercise like orienteering or a scavenger hunt and it leads to more. I have had situations where female characters have sat on male character's laps during drives. One was when a group six of 18-year-olds are going to their high school Halloween dance and two of the girls sit on their boyfriend's laps in the back of the car, simply because there is not enough room, but this is in the 1950s when road rules were not as stringent and it wasn't important to the plot. I also used it in a story set in the early 1970s where a group of young people are driving to a music festival and the male narrating character who is driving is somewhat uncomfortable with his sister sitting on her boyfriend's lap in the back of the van and the way they are making out and where the boyfriend's hands are going.

I think I have seen something or other about lapsitting while driving; although the most common trope seems to be BJs while driving. I might try something with a woman with her head out the sunroof. Or even sitting commando on the roof straddling the sun roof and hanging onto the luggage bars. But then someone would read it and try it. OTOH, they don't have to be driving. How about tailgating before the game. Cheerleader is on the roof chatting with passersby while bf is inside under skirt. Opens a whole new thread: The difficulty of writing convincing hot dialog/monolog where the person is getting off. Only so many 'oh...oh' and 'arrrghs' one can use.

The thing is, it didn't feel tropey (from what I recall anyway), and the way I understood @StillStunned 's post, we were talking about something where the trope is front-and-centre.
